Pendennis
Hi, what power output is achievable from the 1.6 K Series Rover unit and who is a good company to use for this development? Cheers Ian
Jason Plato
back in 2005 I squeezed 210bhp from a 1600cc k at 8150rpm on emeralds rollers .
Titanium7
Mine is around 180bhp at 7600rpm with standard bottom end, T160 pistons and a K05 head with Jenvey throttle bodies, verniers and an emerald. All done in the depths of Milton Keynes by Dave Andrews. Edited by - Titanium7 on 13 Jun 2013 18:50:
oilyhands
Have recently seen a 1600 with VVC head make 226bhp, best has been 235BHP, most people who go for bigger numbers go for an 1800 since a lot of the bottom end is replaced at that sort of level. Pendennis
Thanks, but what would a steel crank and 9000rpm achieve?
Pendennis
Ah, suspect Oily has answered that then, it's to do with classes in racing
peter clarke
180 ish, forged pistons, throttle bodies, 285 H cams, Daves head with standard seats and large valves with reprofiled tracts. Pulls like a train from below 2000 rpm with 4-2-1 exhaust. Torque just under 140. 13 inch wheels and light flywheel makes it all very drivable. charlie_pank
Unless you're doing it for the love of the K, there must be cheaper & better ways to achieve similar numbers?
myothercarsa2cv
The power of the k is a curious thing. Makes one man weep, and another man sing. Or something like that. Perhaps it's the weight as well as just the power.
charlie_pank
There are lighter things out there too (they do tend to scream a bit though...) Another thing I'm curious about - how much would 225 hp from a N/A 1.6k cost compared to a forced-induction solution? david nelson
I would have thought most of the develpment on the k series has been done as its now an old engine. As to who would I get to build you an engine, there will be many different veiws. I have an engine by Nigel Keats of Couger Engineering 01527 821675 and am very happy with it. There is an engine builder called Jason and it is well documented that he had an issue with one of his engines and a club member but he may be the best engine builder out there. There is also Tom New of Newtechniques 01489892957 I would also be happy to give him an engine to do, as have seen his work. Well those are my preferred engine builders in no particular order. Pendennis
Thanks, there will always be failures, we accept that in motorsport. To turn a 1.8K into a 1.6K, is it just rods and crank? TIA
martinwhitcher
DVA no question (aka Dave Andrews), I very much doubt anyone knows more about getting EVERY ounce out of the "K" My little 1900 Special K make 250 bhp/181lb/ft

oilyhands
To go from 1600 to 1800 is a rod and crank change, it might not be easy to swap the pistons over from the 1600 rods to the 1800 and the liners would need glaze busting as the ring traverse area is longer. Area Representative Richard Price Posted June 14, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted June 14, 2013 Quoting Pendennis: To turn a 1.8K into a 1.6K, is it just rods and crank? Forged 1800 pistons may need to be modified to reduce the crown height as the pistons are higher up the bores in a 1600.
