SJD
Is there a preferred type/make of silicone for exhaust sealing? What should I not use?
virden
For the seals on my four into one, I used firecheck sealant as supplied by the local builders merchant. Smoked a bit and smelt aweful at first but seems to have done the job.
TomB
I use a copper coloured Loctite product I picked up from Halfords. It seems to stay flexible and doesnt need replacing that often, unlike the traditional Holts Firegum which doesnt seem to like slight flexing as it soon falls out. Graham King
I've always just used standard clear silicone sealant, it's always been fine. That's all the guys at Powerspeed used when they originally fitted it. As Tom says thinks like firegum set brittle and simply crack and fall away. Whatever you use just use a bit as you don't want silicone on the cat (assuming you have one). Graham.

SJD
Standard clear silicone sealant it is then. Thanks for the replies.
ECR
Standard silicone is apparently not very kind to lambda probes (if you have one peramanently fitted) I'ts the acetic acid I think. I know that Track and Road prefer the proper copper coloured exhaust silicone when they attach their lambda probe for the rolling road sessions .... SJD
I don't have a cat or lambda probes as the car is from the pre-electronic era, the only thing remotely electronic is the rev counter which is not very reliable!
