stagemaker
I am not sure what the name of this is but the arm at the end of the steering rack that comes out of the main body and goes to the wheel. This has obviously received some damage during normal driving from stone chips and road "stuff". Mine is now a little rusty. It had been sprayed black when i bought the car but the rust has already started to come through. I assume this can be replaced but i have heard this is a quite a pain job. Is there anything i can do to bring it back to life whilst on the car and protect it for the future.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Clean it up with a wire brush and emery cloth. Paint with a rust killer, then black paint, or straight on with Black Smoothrite

ECR
What about covering it with black heat shrink tube ? Or you could just repaint it .....
stagemaker
If it is as easy ad rubbing down and re-spraying i'll give it a go in a few weeks. I mentioned the probelm to the guy who works in the CC showroom. He stated shrink wrap. I would have thought this wouldn't be very strong and need replacing regularly. I have noticed the carbon fibre covers on seven speed but have never actually seen them on a car. I would say these should be pretty strong. They must be pretty sticky but are the sticky enough to stay on? Has anyone here used them and can confirm they are any good? Any advice?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted March 28, 2013 Leadership Team Share Posted March 28, 2013 1. Electrical insulating tape along the front edge, easily replaced if damaged. 2. Don't drive so close to the car in front. Stu.

tbird
did mine with wire brush then Brunox then Black plastidip, Brushed my Plastidip, in retrospect would have been neater job if I had taken the time to mask up and use spray plastidip, still better than rust though :-) Tim Edited by - tbird on 28 Mar 2013 18:02:

classic1952
How much do you really want to spend? Have you tried getting this to stick round something as thin as a track rod?
Stationary M25 Traveller
Disconnect one end and slip some black heatshrink tubing on ? Or ... if you don't want to disconnect it, split a small bore rubber hose lengthways and slide it on.
