SV Gary
Can I fit a Metric FIA bar (double diagonal) onto a Imperial (2003) chassis that currently has a single diagonal FIA bar? Cheers Gary
robert green
Yes, I think so as I have one on my 1994 de dion chassis. I am not sure if there are different types, but it is definitely the caged x brace bar.
mic
The round spigots that fit in the holes are shorter on the metric bar and have a 10mm thread.
Mark w
I have an early 2004 imperial chassis and it was supplied from new with one of the first double diagonal FIA bars . Dont know however if the bar was made to fit imperial then and has change subsequently , i assume it was imperial then because it pre dates the metric chassis . Graham Howard
The double diagonal bars are made in both metric and imperial versions. On the metric bar you will need to put spacers or a stack of washers under the spigots to make it fit in an imperial chassis. Graham
SV Gary
Thanks Graham Any idea what size the spacers are? Cheers Gary
Graham Howard
Hi Gary The spacers need to be 15 mm long. I know this because I am currently replacing an imperial FIA bar with a metric cage. Graham
Willie.
Hi Graham, Do the spigots line up? I thought the Metric spigot was a smaller diameter and offset to the inside, so not in the centre of the chassis socket? I also thought this had the result that a bolt could not be inserted into the metric spigot, as the hole is off centre. I've a metric cage to replace my imperial cage, but I assumed I'd need to make a spacer with an offset bore to take the slack out of the metric spigot in imperial socket. Keen to hear otherwise as it'll make this job alot easier.
Graham Howard
I can't give you a definite answer yet. I have only got as far as removing the FIA bar and placing the cage in place to see if it fits. The bosses are slightly smaller but seem to sit in the centre of the chassis sockets. The bolt holes in the chassis are also bigger than 10mm so I don't anticipate any problems. I will know for certain how it fits in few days when I complete the job. Hopefully I can give you some good news.
Graham Howard
Willie Roll cage is now fitted and I can confirm that the spigots line up. You will just need to reduce the bolt head thickness to clear the top of the dampers. Graham

Willie.
Thanks Graham, that's the ticket and gives me encouragement to get at mine. I've a straight tubed roadsport cage fitted with a curvey metric one to replace. I'll turn down some M10s and knock up a couple of spacers in advance. Thanks for coming back with the outcome Enjoy your new style.
Graham Howard
I should also add that the bolts in the boot attaching the rear diagonals needed some persuasion to go through the holes. I am not sure if that would be the case with an imperial cage. Stu, glad you have stopped worrying . Car looks good with the newly powder coated cage.
