Won't Start!

Hi guys, Setting off to take advantage of a bit of sun today, the Cat wouldn't start! Fired immediately then died within 2/3 seconds. Nothing had been altered since the last outing a week ago. Pressed the inertial switch just in case and rnlocked the immobiliser but no joy. Any ideas? Brian

Sounds like no fuel pump either because it is broken or immobiliser.

If the immobiliser was on and you ran the car, you will have emptied the fuel lines/fuel rail. If you have a master switch you can turn it off and the on about three times, allowing the fuel pump to prime each time. That will re-pressurise the rail. Otherwise you will have to wait for the ECU to time out each time so that it runs the pump when you turn the ignition.

Going again *biggrin*! Can't explain it. Topped up the battery - my attempts to start it had sucked some life from the battery. Double checked immobiliser and inertial switch; still ran briefly and stopped. Tried again sitting in the car and blipping the throttle - success!

Immobiliser stops the injectors from firing so it wouldn't run at all if that were the problem. Sounds like a fuel pump issue to me. When you turn the ignition on, you should hear the fuel pump prime, if you don't, it's a problem! Try to get used to listening out for it so that when your intermittent problem returns you have more info about the source of the problem.
