billyboanerges
Just fitted these here to use for daylight running. Seemed to meet with approval at last meeting. Expensive, aren't they! Tony
billyboanerges
And the linky thing works! That'll be a first then! Tony
Leadership Team Garry7 Posted July 1, 2012 Leadership Team Share Posted July 1, 2012 Hi Tony, Are they bright enough not to need the headlights on in daylight? New to driving my 7 and have been pulled out on a few times in my first week. Thanks, Garry
billyboanerges
Yes, I think so Garry. That was why I got them and at the price I thought it must be worth a try. They are very bright but I'll get SWMBO to drive towards me when it stops pi55in9 down! I've got H180 headlamps and the LEDs make them look like candles! Prob have to fit filament bulbs for MOT next year. Tony
TomB
Ordered some, £1.35 including P&P from Honkers! Only downside it will take a couple of weeks to arrive but £1.35 got to be worth a go!
billyboanerges
Mine took nearly a month! Tony
Fishy Dave
I've ordered some too, thanks for the recommendation.
Stationary M25 Traveller
How do those LED sidelights survive with the heat from headlights ? Are they rated for use with up to 16V I have tried some LED lamps before but they don't last long.
Leadership Team Garry7 Posted July 1, 2012 Leadership Team Share Posted July 1, 2012 Thanks Tony, got to be worth a go. If they dont like the heat I'll put the originals back in.
Richard K
Just tried the link and the price is showing as £51.35 Richard
Michael Jackman
Just bought a pair, as has already been said, can't go wrong for the price!
sjmmarsh
Thanks for the tip - I just bought the last pair. Not sure how they cover their costs posting from HK though... Steve
Ian B
I think you might be disappointed. DRL LED's are designed for direct view usually with some optics in front of them. The sidelight replacements have 360 degree dispersion and then need the headlight reflector to direct the light. They may be OK, but I suspect they won't be anywhere near as effective as driving with dipped headlights, or direct view LED's. Hope to be proved wrong though
sjmmarsh
At £1.59 for two bulbs, I am not too worried if they are a failure. They have emitters on 5 sides so should be a reasonable replacement for the sidelight - but they are not replacements for a dipped headlight. Roger Ford
Some 38-emitter ones for a bit more money (about a fiver) here.
Richard K
Mine turned up at the weekend, but when I came to fit found the bulb holder is bayonet? Tried a search but could only find one with 5 LEDs How do they do it £1.35 all the way from HH air mail Richard
billyboanerges
My 7 is a 2010 plate, sidelight bulbs are a push fit. Don't know how they do it at the price. Someone in your area will take them off your hands ? Won't they? Tony
Titanium7
Ordered a month ago and arrived today, wow are they bright or what!
TomB
Going to fit mine tonight, they arrived today. I wish I bought more than one pair now though.
TomB
Arse. I have a different bulb holder. My 1996 car has side lamp bulbs like these, so I need to get a blade type bulb holder with blade connectors for the wiring. Any ideas where I could find some? Roger Ford
How about these? Think that's the right holder, though a lot more expensive than the bulb! Edit: search for "T10 bulb holder" on ebay and you'll find plenty of options. these from China are a lot cheaper! That's strange, mine is a 96 and has blade type sidelights. Fitted my LED sidelights and am very pleased with them, quite a hint of purple to them and brighter than standard bulbs. Richard K
Tom, I had the same problem. While at Silverstone for the Classic I picked up a couple of bulb holders from the SVC stand. £2.00 each. These are rubber and fitted the headlights perfectly. Richard
