Roger Ford
I've got one of these: http://www.shop4race.com/media/catalog/product/cache/2/image/200x/b8c7c4390fae4de1a8605e0ebec62004/a/p/ap-racing-cp3550-13-lever-type-brake-proportioning-valve.jpg and it's leaking brake fluid from under the lever. Anyone know if they're dismantlable and/or repairable, or whether I'm going to have to bite the wallet and cough up the best part of £200 for a new one? Shad
It didn't look very user-serviceable to me when I had mine fitted, but perhaps with the right tools...? AP would probably service it for less than the cost of a new one though.
Roger Ford
Looking back through my email archives, I find that AP offered to service the last one that failed, for £77. I'm guessing that's plus VAT and postage, which probably means well over £100. Suppose it's cheaper than a new one at £177.
Mark Gregory
Hello Roger I've got a brand-new AP screw type proportioning valve It was destined for my Mega, but the lorry got there first. Yours for £100 if you're interested. Mark
Roger Ford
Hi Mark Lorry? What happened? I see you're not signed up for this year ☹️ Looks like that one should fit in place of mine, so long as the screw top doesn't foul against the tunnel side. Can I get back to you on it? Mark Gregory
Roger Sorry for the delay in replying. We got wiped out by a lorry on the M6 on the way to Anglesey back in 2008 Sad photos I'm afraid I'm unlikely to race this year ☹️ ☹️, but I hope to come to watch some of the races. I've used the screw-type valve on my Super, mounted under the bonnet - I don't think I could cope with steering & adjusting the brake balance 😳. As they say in all the Ebay ads. 'The valve is not advertised elsewhere'.
CharlesElliott
Hi Mark, hope you are well and that we see you sometime this year (on track ideally!)
myothercarsa2cv
Don't know if these are any good, but seem cheap and it does say for "Serious Competition" here Mark, nasty accident ☹️
Roger Ford
Ouch, sorry, didn't know about that. Thought you hadn't been around much. AP racing have promised to look at it "and see if it's our fault". If they conclude that it isn't (and I can't change their mind) I'll see if I can get yours to fit. Roger Ford
From AP today: We will return the proportioning valve to you today. We took the unit apart and found a split seal. We have replaced the piston and seal with new parts of a later design. Sorry for the trouble you have had.
