Sump Gasket Sealant

Graham King

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I have a slight oil leak from my sump, I need to drop the sump anyway so will look at it then, but when refitting the sump should I use any sealant? If so what type and where? Both sides of the gasket or just the underside or topside?

Thanks for any advice.

Graham.

You'd be better off with info/advice from someone more experienced than me, but I'd advise you to use an anaerobic sealant and you may as well apply it to both sides of the gasket. That way, there's more likelihood that the engine will just flush it out, avoiding any clumps forming internally.

See what the experts say as well, but that's what I did for mine after going through the BC searches for about 5million hours...!!!

You shouldn't need any as your wet sump on a k-series has a gasket and so shouldn't leak.

I'd just take off the sump, remove the foam if it is in there, modify the sump gasket with two holes drilled, clean the edges and refit. The gasket should last several times of refitting.
