Area Representative Tin Man Posted July 18, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted July 18, 2010 I need to replace my cams seals, as a result I will replace the cam belt as It may be contaminated with oil. Is there any differeence between the cam belt for an engine with a manual or automatic tensioner 🤔 Thank you Regards John
Area Representative Richard Price Posted July 18, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted July 18, 2010 Yes! Auto tension belt is 145 teeth long, and 26mm wide. Normal Manual tension belt is 143 teeth long, and 23mm wide. VVC belt is 143 teeth and 26mm wide.
oilyhands
Use the VVC belt on a manual tensioner 1800. Oil;y
The Outcast
Have a query then Dave not all manual tensioner Ks use 143s I've seen a few with 145s so is there a better ruling[perhaps based on which head is fitted]
oilyhands
All manual tensioner engines use a 143 tooth belt. With a 145 it is impossible to tension the belt correctly. If you have seen a 145 toothed belt with a manual tensioner then it has been fitted in error/incorrectly. The 145 toothed belt was introduced specifically for the auto tensioner. All VVCs and VHPDs have a 143 toothed belt, 1999 and prior engines all have a 143 toothed belt. Myles
If you have seen a 145 toothed belt with a manual tensioner then it has been fitted in error/incorrectly. Yes Should be pointed out that if you position a manual tensioner into a tapped-out auto-tensioner position (the two main-bolt locations are not the same - and the bolt sizes are different too) then it works fine. You won't, in fact, have a hope in hell of fitting the shorter belt. I wouldn't recommend it though... 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester Racing 7s Ecosse™ 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com

Johnty Lyons
Yep exactly the scenario I was seeing converted auto tensioner Short belt impossible to fit.
oilyhands
If the holes for the manula tensioner are drilled in the correct places, rather than retapping the auto tensioner bolt hole, then all will work as it should. Oily
