fred_gustafsson
Does anyone know if the roll over bar is a legal requirement nowadays? Fred
jonboylaw
Hi, Does it matter if it is a legal requirement or not? you only have one head... I would not think of driving a car without one and am fitting a full cage over the winter. First hand experience of why roll bars are so called. Adrian Williams
Presumably you're talking about for the road. I don't know but I'd expect them to be needed from a legal point of view unless your car is 30 years old or more in which case it wasn't mandatory when it was new. Why on earth would you not want to have one. Adrian
Nigel Fox
I think I have seen newish MX5's and VW beetles without roll over protection, so I suspect it isn't required.
Billyboy
Cars would go through the SVA test without rollover bars fitted 😔 and its not a requirement for MOT AFAIK...... My car was SVA tested minus its roll bar 😔 O but the mirrors must be at the exact angle - LOL - Cock-eyed world in which we live
7 wonders of the world
I think so far as most convertibles go Bettle MX-5 etc the windscreen forms part of the roll over protection and therefore in many cases removes the need for conventional bars or hoops - wouldn't like to rely on the 7 windscreen to offer much in the way of roll protection though Too young to be old ! fred_gustafsson
Thanks Billyboy, If it goes through MOT and IVA, then it must be legal to drive it on the roads. I'm shooting a road movie and don't want a clean look. Do you think it will affect the stiffness of the car? Fred
Graham Perry
They are not even a requirement for road going classes in some sprint championships. I was watching some Morgans sprinting at the weekend and a good few of them were without
