Area Representative RussG Posted July 19, 2009 Area Representative Share Posted July 19, 2009 I'm looking to purchase some ear plugs and would welcome any suggestions. Preferably the re-usable type. Has anyone tried the Alpine Motosafe plugs or anything similar? Russ
Stationary M25 Traveller
The little silicone christmas trees from Carbon Bits (RiF) are very good and cheap. The Etymotic Er20 are also good.
Area Representative RussG Posted July 19, 2009 Author Area Representative Share Posted July 19, 2009 Thanks. I'll check them both out. Russ
John Vine
Have a look here too. I use the Laserlite ones. Very effective, and can be reused several times. But then they're cheap enough to use just the once. JV
shn7
ER20's. Last for years if looked after (washed in soapy water after each use in my case) and reduce sound levels without blanking out completely so you can still hear the sirens 😬 😬 Steve. John Vine
IMO, ER20s are OK for shortish trips (or for passengers), but they don't really deal with the really noisy stuff -- like the LSD or exhaust on an R400 Duratec, for example! JV
shn7
Then I suggest you may not have fitted them properly. For me they deal very well with the whine of my straight cut 5sp 'box as well as exhaust noise and (aeroscreen) wind noise. Done plenty of long blats without a hint of problems. Without them after 15 minutes my ears were ringing . Of course some difference may be down to the shape of ones canal. Ear canal that is. Steve. Gordon C
These are what i use. here Very similar to the ER20 plug. John, i am supprised you don't find the ER20's much good. Rotate them a little as you put them in the ear you might find that there fit a little better. _________________________ Gordon.
Stationary M25 Traveller
And moisten them with a wet finger before inserting !! Lifesavers at rock concerts too ..... this is what we originally bought them for (before we had a Seven). They cut 20dB across all frequencies, so you can still enjoy the music, but without the damage. Doug phillips
I ALSO USE ER20, THEY WORK VERY WELL FOR ME. . 😬 Su77on Se7ener
shn7
Pardon Doug, Couldn't quite hear you 😬. Got them windows installed yet? Steve. Sussex (West) AR Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear who recommends Puddle Pet Care
John Vine
Well, I didn't mean to suggest that ER20 weren't much good, but simply that they weren't as effective for me as, say, Laserlite. When you consider the noise-reduction ratings (ER20 = 20, Laserlite = 35), that's not so surprising perhaps. JV
