Alaskossie
Is anyone aware of measured power comparisons of the new Caterham R500 2-litre Duratec with and without CC's new carbon fiber airbox? I would be interested to learn if there is a discernable power loss with the 'box mounted. Alaskossie
simonbell
I've had a look at this and I think its more of an air filter cover than an airbox as such. As I understand it this goes over the typical air filter. Alaskossie
Simon, Then I assume its function is not so much a possible "ram effect," but instead as an intake noise reducer to meet some track regulations? I would think a reduction in power might still result... Alaskossie

Stuart Faulds
It was never designed to reduce noise - its primary function is to equalise air flow and temps across all 4 cylinders, whilst offering some protection for the filter. If anything it increases power by a fraction, and while it changes the engine note, it's no quieter.
Wingnonut
Bet its not CF for £146 as in the picture W.Nut . Rosso Superlight no.087 (no longer)
Jason Plato
the "box" does offer a reduction in the "crack" noise from the throttle bodies. Its clear to hear on drive by between my car and a race R400. This could be handy for some circuits. more pics of the R500 induction on my link below here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
k.russell
perhaps £641 or £461 but £146 does seem very very cheapo for CF. Kevin R black(but sometimes orange)-ali HPC

mav
The CF backbox for the CSR260 is listed at £117.50...
simonbell
There are two parts to it, the CF back box £117 and the CF cover £146 which is £263.......not sure why its so much on the options list.......unless there is something different about the R500 one. I wonder if you can use the cover with a std backplate........can't see why not.
