jono
Can anyone suggest a realistic output for my new engine which I have had built by Oily to upgrade my 1.4ss (MSM asked for an estimate of bhp as I have just renewed my insurance with the new engine config). It's a 1.8 K with high port head (lightly fettled to match ports), 56mm ss forward facing tb and plenum, verniers and 4-1 long primaries competition zorst. Whilst not requested by MSM I would also be interested to know what sort of torque it might produce. Cheers
Mark Durrant
I would estimate around 160bhp AND 125lb/ft. The bhp may be a tad optimistic but better to overstate than have a problem when making a claim. Mark D Comp Sec
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 22, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted May 22, 2007 At a guess, somewhere between 140 and 150 bhp. I'd probably state 140! Stu. www.superse7ens.co.uk..........the rebuild 😬
Delberts Wallet
I'm off to Emerald tomorrow with my 1800K. It has 52mm TB, 4-2-1 zorst, verniers and lightly ported head. If you can wait until then I'll let you know the figures. Gareth Blue and Carbon 6 Speed Supersport here
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 22, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted May 22, 2007 Just to add - not sure about MSM but when insuring through EL there are power bands - the car would slot into the 140 to 160 bhp band. I ran an 1800 with TBs and Emerald and estimated around 160 bhp, very unlikely any higher. Allen Payne
Oily did the same to my 1400SS a few years ago and it made 152bhp at Road & Track last year
old captain slow
The insurance break point is 160hp at Eggar Lawson. You pay more above 160 hp if that helps you decide. I doubt you've got more than 160. C7 CDW
Sheds Moderator
My guess is closer to 150 than 160. The 1.4 is 130bhp, the 1.6 140bhp and I understand that above that the head can't breathe well enough for the increased size. If the 1.8 has a lower rev limit then this will definitely mean the lower end of the range.
jono
Cheers chaps - I've pitched it at 145bhp Gareth - be interested to learn your results. Yours should make more than mine though as I am running the std ss mems set up.
old captain slow
In reality it will be more than that. Our 1.6SS with std head, forward pointing plenum and 56mm TB does 150hp at 7100 rpm. So a fettled head will be better than that. C7 CDW
