hi graham, i disconnected the rev limiter as when this problem first started it was just like a limiter kicking in. the coil does get quite warm. i have just got hold of a multimeter so will check voltage as suggested. will report back soon, hopefully going to avon raceway saterday so will look on sun. thanks barry.

hi guys, unfortunately when the engine died i didnt have any means of testing for a spark and the car is quite happy to run on the drive without cutting out, it has the aldon distributer fitted. what is the reliability like on these units or has any one had similar problems.the car is a 97 with much the same set up as yours it has only covered 15k so surely the loom is u/s? thanks barry.

hi russell, what was the outcome of this problem. i have exactly the same symptoms, have changed coil, leads, cap and fuel pump only to be dumped at the side of the road again! getting desperate now.please help. barry.

Due to my fuel pump expiring on sunday i now have a shiny new one to fit. what i need to know is what do i seal the brass unions into the pump with? had a look in halfrauds and could not find anything that sounded petrol friendly. any advice will be most helpful. barry.

dark blue spotted around lunchtime by my daughter, nice sun but cold wind.

fitted new cap leads and arm and still got spitting back on no 2 bellmouth, happens when engine gets hot also possible noise from exhaust side of head. zetec sounds great but if this is a simple fix i will run with it. cheers for all replies. baz.

hi unclefester,how did you work that out? do the results sound about right? it is only a 1600 with a 234cam twin 40s. i am not sure what else has been done but i have invoices for modified 1300 pistons,balencing and gas flowed head.

hi all, noticed engine was not running well on the way back from brands hatch. number 2 plug lead when removed makes no difference. checked valve clearences all ok. compression test gives 160psi across all pots. i think the dizzy cap is breaking down but havn't found one yet. will try aldon tomorrow. thanks alot for all your advice it has been taken in!

engine is running on 3 cylinders, no 2 cylinder is not sucking air through bellmouth. have checked plug, lead ect, tacho is jumping around checked alternator connections they are ok. tried to get new dizzy and rotor arm unable to find at local factors. it is an aldon / lucas job part no54400270 arm is 54422803 . also what reading should i expect on a compression test. any help greatly needed.
