  1. Ammo Sorry, Bit late I know Have I missed the boat or are you still accepting cheques Regards Wingnut
  2. Have been following this thread from the start with some amusement. Asked about Mog carbon fibre on here a couple of months ago and recieved nothing but complimentary reviews. These products may be at the cheaper end of the CF market, but I would compare them more with mid range Sony (Definately not cheap ASDA crap) compared to Arnies top end Denon (or whatever), however if we all wanted to conform to the latest Dog's b******s, F1 derived gear, wouldnt we all be better buying carbonfibre Radicals rather than quaint old fashioned R500's 😬. 3. Qualative response, JR, Accept that I do not have much experiance with BEC's, Qualative response, think you can only get subjective ones on this kind of forum. The closest qualative response I can give is that I had to replace pistons, rings and liners on a 23K 900cc Triumph tiger engine (subjected to a reasonably hard life) inside a triumph tiger bike, also have zx7r and xj600 (almost a bike). Not trying to slag of BEC's at all, if I was looking for at track car it would definately have a bike engine. These engines are designed for bikes and can't possibly be expected to give the same troubefree mileages as a car engine (R1's etc are designed using the same philosophy as Chapman after all, and can't be compared with a car engine designed from the start to live in a variety of platforms). Performance cars have a proud history of using Bike engines which I have no intention of denying, please try and keep a sense of perspective about this. Wish this bloody thing had a speellll chukre. 4. In the bike world mileages over around 30K are thought of as being pretty high (BM's and Pan's excepted), the average biker also thinks that a bike over 200Kg is just a little bit to porky. These facts do not bode well for a car that would be doing extremely well to get down to less than 400Kg minus the driver. There is no doubt that these cars are extremely fast, I watched a hyabusa powered Stryka at Harewood last weekend (Also saw a 600cc bike powered Gedi, 8 seconds faster than the nearest 7 type car [caterhams included]), fantastic. I think that they are probably best kept as occasional road cars that spend the majority of there lives on the track (with a healthy reserve for rebuilds over winter). These engines are built for high power, low weight, and with torque as an added bonus, I would think that you would need to plan for a rebuild at least every 10K. Wingnut
  5. Sorry Should of thought of it earlier Anyone got a web address or telephone no for BGH. Thanks Wingnut Do!just looked back through SJL's mail Edited by - Wingnut on 13 Aug 2003 07:41:57
  6. Thanks for the response I think that this is the area on my caterham that needs the most attention, and will will make the most difference to the driving experiance. Definately top of the list for this winters tinkering! Thanks Mark ❗

  8. Sorry for asking something thats probably been done to death many times (search engine off line) before. Does anyone know where I can get a taller first gear for a standard type nine box for reasonable money (£200-£350), I have looked at the quaife clubmans type box's but do not really want to spend around a grand. Currently to go in a three year old 1.6K SS, mate also wants one for his Striker. Thanks Mark
  9. Sorry Doz Been a bit remiss, not sure if it will fit. my car was originally a 2000 1.6 K roadsport with standard de-dion suspension. I have changed to the standard FIA roll bar with petty strut. If you still want it, send me an e'mail to mark_Appleby@bigfoot.com I think it will cost around £15 to post , possibly less (slowest post), as long as it is around this price I will post it, let you know how much it is, and wait for a cheque for the postage. Regards Mark
  10. Thanks Mark Looks like something to keep me occupied over winter Wingnut
  11. The July issue of Ride magazine has a short review of a device called a turnalert, made by datatool (£39.99). Aparently you get an audible alert after twenty flashes after being static (I believe this count starts after any flashes during braking). It pretty much gets a thumb down from the biking community, but I reckon it would be worth looking at for the Caterham. I put a buzzer in that went off every time it flashed, this was too embarassing at traffic lights so I took it out, however its also pretty embarassing when I have a senior moment and leave them on for a couple of miles. I am going to investigate the self cancelling indicators I have heard about on here recently, but do quite like this idea. They dont give a web address but do give a phone number for anyone that may be interested: 01420 541444 Wingnut
  12. Thanks for the reply Pete, Have sent you an e'mail that has my address. Mark
  13. Does anyone have any experiance of these. I have a little damage to a rear wing, and think they look like decent value as replacements. However, while I am undoubtedly cheap, I do not want to cut my nose off to spite my face and buy something that is vastly inferior to Caterhams offerings. Are there any other alternatives Thanks Mark
  14. Doz Will get it weighed in the next day or so and will let you know how much it will be. Mark
  15. Forgot to say, all off 2000 1.6K supersport.
  16. Due to modest upgrades: Standard roll bar Rear vinyl boot cover to suit above BRG Petrol cap with key all covered in dust but otherwise in good nick Donations to NTL appreciated Can sort out post and packing as long as it is paid for. Mark
  17. Ford Focus Good to drive, spent eight weeks off the road in its first year with electrical problems. Crap dealers (ie: spent a week in the garage, on return, major problem not fixed, told we can look at it again in three weeks, and no courtesy car). Accept that you occasionally get faults on new cars, but will be looking at a BM or similar for my next tin top (specifically for aftersales). Mind you Caterham arn't exactly fantastic on the aftersales side (processing credit card transactions excepted 🙆🏻) Mark
  18. I have a 280mm, suede Momo 26, with racetech QR. Plenty of grip and feel, much better than the mountney it arrived with. Thought about the square bottomed wheels, but without a quick rack was wisely advised against this route (besides, quarticks always remind me of poo brown Allegros ). The only disadvantage is walking around with a steering wheel and pixie boots, it doesn't half make me feel like a prat. Mark
  19. I have a 2000 1.6K supersport, It revs really sweetly but does need keeping in the power to really move. I believe that the 1.8 has more torque, but does not rev as well. I love to thrash the T*t* off my car so am quite happy with the 1.6. It really depends what you are after. I do not think that you will have that many reliability problems tuning either engines to 150BHP ( I believe that the general consensus is that around 190 bhp is the limit before major internal surgery is needed on either engine), I am looking to progress to around 175BHP through 4-2-1 exhaust, throttle bodies, emerald cams and programable chip (my car was originally a roadsport which I upgraded to supersport, something I now think was a bit of a dead end), I believe this will sort the torque out, and increase peak power. I use my car largely on the road, for quick moorland blats and quite a few longer trips, the only time I would prefer the larger engine is on main roads and motorways. planting the throttle in fifth at 60mph (standard five speed box, due for mods) just results in farty noises and a postal invitation to change down to third, This situation is not really what a Caterham is meant for, of course, I am biased, over to you. Regards Mark
  20. I am quite sad, and therefore a sucker for this kind of thing, please count me in, would prefer mine with no etching thanks
  21. Four 13 inch Weller steel wheels, Ital PCD, decent nick, include two fitted Yoko A032's (barely legal, but good for track days). £50 ono
  22. Engineered in patina? or possibly crap design. I'm getting aeroscreens, and a good toothbrush to scrape the flies off. They all do that, just drive and enjoy. *cool*
