  1. Body filler 😬 In the good old days when I worked for a large fleet operator, keeping the vans on the road was paramount. If a radiator sprung a leak, sometimes due to a stone through the grill, other times because of vibration or even corrosion, we used body filler. Funnily enough, the repairs lasted so long we stopped replacing the radiators! Take the rad cap off so the system does not pressurise. Star the engine so the radiator gets nice and warm which makes the body filler go off quickly… mix up a golf ball size dollop and force it around the leak and well into the fins. A few years ago I did the same on a mates Honda Accord… he is still using it *smokin* 1997 HPC
  2. Or, I can re title the thread to read “can I use water from the boiler drain in the banner battery in my Caterham” 😬 😬 😬 1997 HPC Edited by - Tony L on 28 Mar 2008 15:51:38
  3. Yup, should have been in chitchat…. Sorry Blame it on the fact I have been away so long!
  4. Thanks guys, Looks like we have to buy it then… Crudders “You just have to be careful with certain drainage materials to avoid corrosion.” What types are susceptible? The runn off from the boiler goes into a drain that was installed as part of our extension which is 12 months old. The new drain runs under the extension into the foul on the drive, so I am keen for no corrosion problems there… 1997 HPC
  5. We have a condensing central heating boiler which has a drain which produces water which currently vents to the drain… Can I use this water in the steam iron? We are in a hard water area and the holes in the iron become blocked very quickly… Edited to say I am back! Didn’t expect to be able to post as I only renewed a couple of days ago and have not received my details yet! 1997 HPC Edited by - Tony L on 28 Mar 2008 10:46:47
  6. oh god , they are talking about me down here
  7. Anyone got any experience / thoughts on these, the electric sort I mean *tongue* I have some problems with my wrists at the moment which makes it painful to polish the car (including the tin top!) so I was thinking about getting an electric polisher. Any recommendations for makes / models / types? I suppose Rob Morris could always pop over and do the polishing for me 😬 😬 1997 HPC Edited by - Tony L on 28 Apr 2007 09:23:16
  8. I was tempted to add a few more BHP 😳 😳 😬 1997 HPC
  9. Peter I did a simmilar thing on the cover on my VX. I had some stickers cut by a local sign maker in vinyl and stuck these on the polished cover. I then picked out the letters and gently sand blasted it. The results were quite good, there are some pictures of it on my web site below… 2 years on and lots of polishing it still looks good! With some care you can also get some nice effects by altering the blasting pressure/time of blasting. I did a logo for a mate on a cam cover where I pealed the letters off one by one which meant the first letter got a lot more blasting that the last. It produced a “fading” effect, very “max Power”! 1997 HPC
  10. Totally stupid and inconsiderate to other road users… 😬 😬 😬 You will be trying for flames on the over run next 😳 😳 How about putting a jubilee clip around the primary and then drilling a hole through it and the exhaust. Then, by slackening the clip and rotating it to cover/expose the hole you have an adjustable air leak By the way, you can get solid copper gaskets from the Seven Workshop I think… 1997 HPC
  11. Ahhhhhhhhhhh Its quite difficult to drill a smaller hole than the one already there! 😬
  12. Martin No jets but I always used to drill the old ones to the new size… a 120 main has a 1.2mm hole and a 170 air has a 1.7mm hole. They drill out easily by hand using the drill in a pin vice, just twist the drill through! My local tool shop has a full size of drills for around £1 each or you can get a set on Ebay for around £4 1997 HPC

  14. Dee Pee I see you are in the midlands... I am just thinking about a Jill Judd hood but wanted to try getting in and out with one first... any chance of a look at your car? 1997 HPC
  15. Chas I have modified the linkage on my car, mainly because it had a poor action but also as you say the travel is too long… there are some pictures of the modification on my web site (clicky on the link below) but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the carb end. Not an easy modification but it made the world of difference to the driveability of the car. If you have room on the top of the carbs, the linkage Weber sell is very good. There are some pictures of this again on my site, but fitted to my Westfield. This linkage is fully adjustable for travel by altering the linkage pivot points. I think they are available from Demon Tweeks. Halfords sell some nice Teflon lined cable for push bike brakes which makes ideal throttle cables! 1997 HPC

  20. I would agree about all that’s been said about the Megajolt! I ran one for a few thousand miles on my old Westfield, never missed a beat. The chap that bought the car did 10,000 further miles with it and he told me it was faultless! It also improved my fuel consumption somewhat as well! As Bob says, you can run the system in limp home mode just using the EDIS system. As for the maps, I sent my map to quite a few people who never bothered to have their cars on the rolling road; no one reported any issues, even with one guy running a 160BHP crossflow on the map! His stance was that where it was important, eg the higher rpm and load, (in terms of doing any damage to the engine) the advance was all in at that stage anyway! I still have the map if you need it, plus there is some info on my web site below. 1997 HPC
  21. Hi Robert Do a search on Vecta in the search facility in Tech Talk. Loads of stuff in there… they are very unreliable, I can speck from experience! Click here to go to my web site!
  22. Time has come to change the auto transmission fluid in my 2000 Honda accord… The handbook specifies either Dexronr II or Dexronr III. Which should I use? What’s the difference between the two? Makes a change from an engine oil question 😬 😬 😬 Click here to go to my web site!
  23. “but I'm VERY fussy!!” I can vouch for that 😬 😬 😬 Click here to go to my web site!
