Information from a 1985 road test and a price list of a 1700 Supersprint engine kit from 1990 would indicate that the 1700 is a 1600cc 711 block with a 90/1000th of a inch over bore to provide 1691cc with pistons to suit and the following other changes: high lift, short duration cam - 234 head has fully flowed ports heavy duty oversized valves duplex valve springs twin 40DCOEs Weber with 32mm chokes Caterham quoted 135bhp at 6,000rpm Looking on the web - Ford appear only used up to 1600cc kent engines in Escorts. An the Mark 1 GT had a 1300 engine. Edited by - MusCat on 20 Jan 2010 23:38:13

  3. I've had good service from these guys
  4. Ultimately grip levels are less of an issue for me as fun can be had with low grip and low cornering speeds, as long as you keep out of the way of faster traffic. My big concern is ruining the A539s thru' overheating as then it's a false economy and I might as well buy some new A021Rs and drive on those to and from the trackday.
  5. In the past I've used a set of old (often illegal) A021Rs on trackdays while running A539s on the road. This made track days a 2 car affair (the Caterham plus a support car as I do not have a trailer) for myself and my father. I was wondering about using the A539s on the track to avoid having to take the extra set of wheels, but I am concerned they will suffer. With 135bhp the A021Rs tend to overheat. Am I going to ruin the A539s?
  6. North Weald sounds good . Only 65 miles away - might get to my first club track day since Brands GP in 2005.

Didn't hang around long - SOLD
  8. Trailer cable? Has enough cores but may not be thin enough.
  9. My '89 xflow was between 104 and 106 with a standard CC can with 1in4 preliminaries. Replaced it with a 6" repackable Powerspeed with a addional crushed cone of perforated pipe in the end of the perforated pipe - £340 back in 2005. I also have copper exhaust gaskets - it's now at 98. I think induction noise is now the problem.
  10. First time ever I've seen one on the road. Spotted it a few cars ahead of me leaving Aylesbury this afternoon. Finally caught up with it on the Thame by-pass and followed it for a while. Got home and looked it up - turns out it's a replica ☹️ I suppose it figured, given how some of his overtaking manoeuvres didn't befit someone driving a car worth a few million quid.
  11. I know a guy who works out of a barn on the A41 between Biscester and Aylesbury who does VAGs - been at it a long time (he appears in the all the photos in this book) - very good value - not sure he does engine rebuilds (anymore that is - he once rebuilt my wifes 1500 beetle engine when it dropped a piston for £100 in mid 90's) but I'm sure he could advise. I'll email his details. Tim
  12. Saw it over Brill in Bucks going west-east at 2.15pm on Saturday. Isn't it "the" Vulcan as there's only one flying?
  13. In 1985 LA car had a 8 gallons (36.4 litres) tank - I assume it never changed
  14. If you do take the car check the tyre pressures before you leave the fitters 30psi + Caterham = disaster at first corner
