  1. Quoting revilla: Stepper motor in the IACV. Perfectly normal. Mine sounds like an electronic chicken! PS: If your hearing is good enough, you will also notice it makes a very very high pitched whine for several minutes after you have switched off the ignition. Also normal (before you ask ). Edited by - revilla on 24 Apr 2014 22:48:49 Thanks man. *wavey*
  2. 1.4 K Series, idles fine, just clicks when ignition is on and not running. Any suggestions ?
  3. Quoting revilla: @evotell - Just sounds like the normal sucking of air past the mostly closed throttle and through the IACV. If everything else is fine I wouldn't worry about it! Due to the lack of soundproofing on a Caterham you hear every little sound the engine makes, and all the normal noises sound abnormally loud :) Thanks
  4. This is a fascinating post that truly reveals the depth of knowledge that many of our members have and reinforces the commitment to help each other out. I have noticed a rather loud sucking noise I assume its coming from the manifold intake area on a very light throttle on a 1.4 K series, the car runs smoothly, doesn't hesitate, stall or appear to lack power. Any suggestions on what this may be.

    K Series Idle

Quoting revilla: The idle speed is controlled by the ECU. It's not user-adjustable. If you adjust the "idle screw" on the throttle body, it will just compensate using the IACV and put it back to where you started. I wouldn't tinker with the screw if I were you. However, 1150 does sound a little high. Mine idle at about 950. I think the ECU sets a fast idle when the engine is cold, also sometimes after a period at higher RPM it hold the idle slightly high for a little while before dropping it back. It may be worth resetting the throttle position sensor to ensure the ECU doesn't think you are giving it a little bit of throttle. Ignition on (without starting), throttle pedal smoothly down to full throttle then back up to fully closed five times in succession, then ignition off again. Thanks for the time you have given to my question. Which sensors on the 1.4 KS would you carry as spares?

    K Series Idle

Quoting Klunk: Is the throttle cable too tight/caught somewhere, thereby holding the throttle open? Giles Doesn't appear to be

    K Series Idle

Any advice on how to adjust the idle on a 1.4 K series would be most appreciated. I can see that there is an idle screw, but it does nothing. Car presently idles smoothly at 1150 rpm, I sense its a little high, I would have thought around 1000 would be better. Also looking for a manifold pressure sensor. Cheers 😬

    OBD2 wireless

The great thing about OBD2 of course is it works on nearly all modern cars, I'm interested to see what is says about my Jeep GC Diesel.

    OBD2 wireless

What make of ECU does the K series have?

    OBD2 wireless

Decided to purchase this, sounds a very interesting tool, works wirelessly with all Smart Phones. Will do a review when it arrives.
  11. Quoting John Vine: Quoting evotell: My speedo is reading 80KM when in reality the cars doing 120KM according to my GPS. 😳That's outrageous, any suggestions would be most appreciated. What year/model is your car? If you have the latest programmable speedo (no dipswitches), I can send you a list of the 6-digit program codes for a variety of tyres and wheel sizes. (I think the list came from CC originally.) JV Hi John Thanks for your offer to send me the appropriate code. I spoke with Derek at Caterham and he sent me a code that I have inserted into the speedo. Once I drive it we will see. 😬 Thanks
  12. Thanks guys, as has been said this appears to be a real problem for many people. cheers

    Madness

Quoting Jonathan Kay: The time taken for the pressure to equalise across the system depends a bit on the size of the hole, but the equilibrium pressure doesn't. As above, there is no flow when it's at equilibrium. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 14 Apr 2014 21:21:55 Thanks Jonathan.

    Madness

Quoting Grim Reaper: It doesn't matter about the hose diameter, it's not got to cope with flow of any sort, just pressure. Really, surely the larger the internal hole the less pressure.

    Madness

Quoting elie boone: Instead of using a elbow u can use a banjo fitting, this will give even more ground clearance. Sounds good, do you have a picture of your recommendation?

When you mention a braded hose are you referring to a braded brake line hose as fitted on the front brakes? Surely the inside hole diameter is smaller on the hose

    Madness

Quoting Bricol: Well, I did mention I'd thrown the sender in the bin in the second post! But I was unsure as to whether he means the switch or the sender. I made simple adaptor to fit the original orifice and installed a braided line to a new guage, both from Burton power. I do run mine at a sensible ride height, and even in car trials (driving off-road) and while I've got plenty of marks on the bottom of the sump, the oil filter and it's housing is fine. Anyway, as Terry is an (ex?) integrale man, I'm not sure he can comment on position and access tto anything on a Caterham compared to the stuff buried in an integrale engine bay Bri 😬 😬

    Madness

The location of the oil pressure switch on the 1.4 K Series is total madness. Has anybody done a mod on it. I plan to put a 90 deg elbow in the union which points it upwards. Any suggestion would be helpful.
  20. This is a great post and what are forum is all about. I have read with interest and learnt a bunch things. Question: is there a specific code reader needed or will an IPhone app do the same thing? Edited by - evotell on 13 Apr 2014 14:03:05

    Pink wire

Quoting Jonathan Kay: That should be fine... I'm just intrigued as to why the end was stripped! Jonathan Looks like I may have had a stripper in the car 😳
  22. evotell

    Pink wire

Quoting Jonathan Kay: Antenna for immobiliser? In which case it's the only wire that requires the end not to be connected... Jonathan Thanks Jonathan. It appears that the immobiliser isn't working, nor do I want it to, so you suggest tape it up and tuck it out of the way

    Pink wire

Under the dash 2009 LHD K series 1.4SS there is a black box 4 inches or so long, it has several wires coming out of it including a pink one that is stripped at the end but not connected, does anybody know what this wire is for and where it should be connected? Thanks
  24. Tricky one, that. Would you rather have the whole kit, say, two weeks late, or have almost all of it on time so as to begin assembly? I take your point, though, and agree entirely.JV All Caterham need to do is give people a realistic time frame and be upfront. 😳 We all make mistakes, but ignoring people is unacceptable. As has already been said CC need to start stocking the correct amount of parts instead of promising people the moon and consistently coming up short.
  25. Quoting TheTourist: Actually, yes Comes with the 'pairofscissors' release mech Perfect 😬
