  2. Just wanted to post up my appreciation of John Vine's help and for taking the time back in April 2010 to provide his excellent write up regarding the Flexi-coil loom upgrade to Duratecs http://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/r400-duratec-misfire-update-now-flexicoil-loom-fitted?page=1 This post helped me to understand that I had the older style loom on my R500 and what was required to make the coil loom upgrade to solve my misfire. Thanks John
  3. Nick Potter in Lubenham nr Market Harborough is an excellent option and not far from Caterham Midlands. Nick certainly knows his way round a 7 having been at Caterham Midlands for many years. John
  4. It is the Camcoat reviews that just make me say No. I went back to Zircotec with a polite "How much? As I found the following http://zircotec.com/newsitem/3/47 The reply for the Primary range coating on the primaries to the inside of the side skin was including collection / delivery was £316 + VAT. Still a chunk of cash but perhaps a better option?
  5. No direct experience on a Caterham however do have a friend with an Ultima and he had his manifolds Zircotec Ceramic sprayed and has found a significant change in his inlet air temps and now can touch the manifold 10mins after switching off which wasn't the case before. Just the other day I enquired regarding the cost for Zircotec on my R500 primaries, roughly 50cm pipe length and 16.5cm circumference. Today i got the quote £464 + Shipping + VAT for one of their Performance colours, so a whopping total of £586.80
  6. I have Savage switchgear on my R500D however my indicator switches/buttons are on the steering wheel and not the dash. Wasn't aware that R500's with Savage switchgear had indicator buttons on the dash

  9. Managed to get it sorted [smile] So if anybody else has the same problem here was what I did. Row of 3 pins are 1,2 3 and Row of 2 pins are A & B Pin 1 was +12v feed when ignition on (green wire for me) Pin A was Earth (black wire) Pin 2 was the master cylinder reservoir switch (Black wire with white stripe) and (White wire with black stripe) Pin B was the looped out (White wire with black stripe) from Pin 2 Pin 3 remains unconnected. I found this image of the switch terminals which was certainly of help. Hope it helps others John
  10. Great thanks JK The whole diagram would be really helpful, i'll send you a PM, i'd be very grateful if you could email me the diagram. Thanks John
  11. Hopefully somebody can help me out My brake test switch on my R500 (aluminium Savage push button switch was a bit sticky and in the process of fixing it I stupidly removed the wires without noting which terminals they were connected to There are 5 terminals at the back of the switch, a row of 3 and a row of 2. I have a black wire, a green wire, a white & black stripe which loops into a black & white stripe wire Are there any fellow Blatchatters that would be kind enough to stick their head under their dash and to check how their brake test switch is wired? Thanks John
  12. Sorry Stu for the duff info. Nige thanks for correcting me must've been the jet lag having just got back from holiday in the last day or so. If you go Stu, hope you enjoy the show
  13. Hi Stu, Spoken to the boss and I am told. 14th June Wellesbourne has a Wings & Wheels event where the resident Vulcan XM655 will do its high speed taxi run so that could work for your family bash at Charlecote. 28th June there is flyover as part of the V force tour. http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/671/82/Locations-for-V-Force-Tour.html Hope this helps John
  14. Hello Stu, thanks for the wave Was just finishing a blat with the chap that bought my old Superlight a few months back and when you saw me at the McDonalds roundabout and I was virtually at home. I hear from my wife that traffic was bad for Throckmorton, you get stuck? My wife went over to her flying club at Wellesbourne to see the Vulcan fly over. John

  17. Does anybody happen to know what the thread union and size is for the return pipe that is connected to the top of the Caterham triangular dry sump tank? Is it BSP or JIC? Thanks John
  18. I've managed to get my hands on one of the C400 carbon air filter covers that fits over the Pipercross foam filter which is used on the Roller barrel set-up on Duratec engines The cover is connected to the backplate by using 3 slightly longer Dzus quarter turn fasteners across the top edge. However there is a 4th connector lug centrally on the bottom edge of the cover but the backplate doesn't extend far enough down for a Dzus fastener clip to be located which would allow the Dzus fastener to catch onto. The cover fits well with just the top 3 but there is slightly movement in the bottom edge because it isn't connected in any way. For the folk that have this air filter cover how have you connected the bottom of the cover ? Or do you just rely on the top 3 connections and forget about the bottom one?
  19. Thanks Simon I'll give them a call to check
  20. BTTT Nobody got one or know of the where one could be sourced?
  21. Does anybody have a Carbon airbox cover which was also known as a C400 Race airbox cover? The airbox fits over the Pipercross filter and connects to the same carbon back plate and were often supplied with R500 Duratec's Secondly any idea who made them for Caterham? Thanks John
  22. Hi John, Did you end up sourcing some orange that you found was a suitable match? I've just upgraded my Superlight to an R500 which is also painted in Gulf colours and have a couple of little jobs to do. Thanks John
  23. Quoting Jonathan Kay: *arrowup*Are you saying that "Persil Small and Mighty non-bio" is unsuitable*? Thanks Jonathan * Sorry! Hi Jonathon, I don't know for certain. It is unlikely that it will contain soap in large % because even though soap is a good cleaning agent, its effectiveness is reduced when used in hard water. Detergent manufacturers won't disclose there formula however if you contact them asking if the detergent contains soap they should provide a yes or no answer. Industrial laundry providers who are contract laundering flame retardant clothing ensure their water hardness is kept low and also use detergents that do not contain soap.
  24. Quoting sforshaw: John, just moving off track a little (or rather a lot!) .... are you familiar with BS 7177 (2008) at all? Stu. Hi Stu, A little bit, most of the testing that was carried out in the UKAS lab we had for testing PROBAN fabrics was for industrial workwear EN 531 and latterly ISO 11611 and ISO 11612. We also did BS 7175 cigarette, match and crid 5 or 7 for the fabrics used in mattress and pillow. Some good info here on Satra's site. http://www.satra.co.uk/spotlight/article_view.php?id=446 John
  25. Quoting Token Jock: I've been involved with flame retardant textile fabrics for close to 20years and until last year I was the Global Business Director for the PROBAN brand. There are two washing conditions you need to avoid with ALL washable flame retardant fabrics Do NOT under any circumstance use a chlorine based bleach for stain removal, this will damage the chemical structure of the meta-aramid and will result in loss of flame retardant properties. With regards to detergents, you need to avoid washing using "soap" based products because if you have hard water you will leave a calcium and magnesium stearate "film" on the surface of the fabric. This stearate film is flammable and has to be removed by washing with a very dilute acidic solution. You should use a synthetically built detergent like Ariel, DAZ and wash around 40c and don't tumble dry as this thermal shock can result in shrinkage. Hope this helps. John
