    Hoods

There was an article or two in Low Flying (last year?) about a couple of vinyl mods. One was the manufacture of 'Whimps' - sort of elongated doors to cut down on wind; the other was the insertion of a clear bit of vinyl into the roof where a sun-roof would be, to let a bit of light in. I can't find the articles but maybe somebody else can, and can post any contact details.
  2. Pierre, The European Yokohama address is: THE YOKOHAMA RUBBER COMPANY LTD. Europe Office D-40549 Düsseldorf Hansaallee 201 GERMANY 49 (211) 327061/62 49 (211) 5370933 Happy hunting! Nick
  3. Pierre, the Japanese Yoko site is at http://www.yrc.co.jp/home.html though it's largely in Japanese. The contact details are: Yokohama Rubber Company, LTD. 36-11, Shimbashi 5-Chrome Minato-Ku, Tokyo 105-8685, Japan Tel: 03-540-4531 I guess the e-mail address might be info@yrc.co.jp Let me know if you get stuck as I have a Japanese friend who could ring them up for the information you want. Cheers, Nick
  4. Jules, Classic Carriage do them, as do: M&P on 08705 703030 or www.sound-dist.co.uk Both are bike shops and in their old catalogues they do a variety of tax disc holders, including ally ones. Nick Edited by - Nick on 19 Oct 2000 23:50:06
  5. It's not ideal but my standard mirror can be rotated 180 degrees around its pivot to be about 1cm higher - or lower, depending which way up it is to start with wink.gif, ie it does not pivot centrally.
  6. Andy, do you have carbon fibre or fibreglass arches and cone? I don't think the fibreglass cone is very expensive, if unpainted, so Armourfend may be a bit OTT. I can see why you might want to do the arches - though mine are pretty good still after 25000 miles or so. The nosecone is near perfect. Nick
  7. My number plate fell off a while back - the car looks much better without one at all! Dave, may you have at least another 11000 trouble free miles; I'm being Mr Meek and swapping back from sticky to normal! Nick
  8. Dave, you said you could have been given 3 points and yet you put the small plate back on. Why?! I would have thought points are enough of a risk as it is, without shortening the odds! JMHO as Alex would say. Cheers, Nick

    Tyre Performance

I saw George Polley at Foxhall Stadium in Ipswich at the weekend - he was fitting dozens of sets of AO21Rs so you shouldn't have any trouble getting any. Let me know if you do - I have a dozen part worn ones in my garage! Yes, AO21Rs are softer / grippier than Pilots. As for price, they are used by many racers so maybe it's a supply and demand thing. I've always got mine from Easytrack who have charged the same as George Polley. You can probably pay a lot more if you want at your local tyre fitter!

    Tyre Performance

I can recommend Yokohama AO21Rs and AO32Rs. I have not driven with Pilots but gather that both Yokos offer more grip and feedback in the dry, and I've not had any problems in the wet. I prefer AO32Rs for trackdays as they seem to work better when hot but AO21Rs seem just as good on the road. Some maintain 21s are better in the wet but I've never pushed things in the wet and have had no problems with the 32s. Tyre wear will be greater but if you don't go on track it won't be terrible; if you do go on track, all the more reason to get sticky rubber! All the best, Nick

    Again

Th eprelineal theory of evocadery manoueverismssssssssssss
  12. My front number plate came off recently after 2 years. It was held on with silicone adhesive as used by Classic Carriage which is different, I think, from the run of the mill stuff. I have a sticky plate on the top of the nose cone at the moment as it was a 5 minute fix. Opinion is divided pretty equally amongst those I know as to which looks better. I think I'll go back to the low jobby, held on with silicone adhesive.
  13. Is this the stuff originally meant for plane props? Does it last pretty well? How easily does it come off, if and when it needs replacing? Thanks.

    Paint finnish

How old is the car? Did you get it new? Whatever, COMPLAIN!
  15. What are the details on the Toyota? I may be interested if my tintop doesn't pass the MOT in a month.
  16. www.stand21.com is a no-go but the gloves can be seen at http://www.racersmarket.net/gloves.html
  17. Ah, that makes sense, thanks. So less is more.

What tyres are you currently using?
  19. Seriously, I like that idea! I saw a converted car a few months ago and it looked dreadful. The holes had been 'filled' with poppers, like those used for the roof. I think bullet holes would look cool! Or, a bit silly, pictures of birds/other sports cars/whatever with a red cross through them...
  20. Nick is not missing the point! I posted Peter's request on another forum but unfortunately nobody was able to help. However, the post I quoted was sarcastic. All the best, Nick
  21. Peter, I'm afraid the quote below is the best answer I got when I reposted - note the last line about being in good humour! OK folks, I'll attempt a translation "I have a concentric hydraulic clutch release slave cylinder of my own design."... I know I can buy these things, but I've got a lathe and the ones you can buy are a complete rip off, so I thought I'd make my own... "It isn't quite concentric and I haven't built any compliance into it." I'm not very good with my lathe and the bits I've made don't really fit together because at least one bit is oval and it doesn't fit into a round hole... "I want to fix this before it all goes back together and hopefully cure the squeal from the clutch which was heralding a premature wear pattern."... I have to fix this as otherwise my clutch won't work and I'll end up buying the bits I was trying to avoid buying in the first place. "My only idea is to shave the external diameter on the piston so it is a loose fit on the bearing and then refit the bearing on some blobs of silicone sealant. Does anybody think this has a chance of working?"... In addition to a lathe, I also have a file. Does anyone think that, if I file off the lobes on the oval bit I knocked up, then gum it all together to compensate for my dodgy metalwork, I'll end up with a working clutch? To which I think the answer is no. There comes a point where the concept of a kit car is taken beyond some people's ability to make it a reality. I think that the questioner has reached that boundary. All in good humour"
  22. Arnie - are their any details and / or pictures of your car on the web? Just curious! Cheers, Nick
