  1. Hi All, Does anyone know the differences in weight between the following components; Carbon nose Vs Fibre Glass nose cone Carbon rear arch Vs Fibre Glass rear arch Carbon front cycle wing Vs Fibre Glass front cycle wing Any help, gratefully received. Best regards SKC
  2. Hi Michael, YHM *arrowup* Regards SKC
  3. Hi Charlie Pank, This isn't a big issue. At least with the sump rigidly bolted to the engine in the car, your not trying to chase the sump round on a bench top, garage floor or the kitchen worktop (when the wife's out)!!. Best regards SKC
  4. Hi Frameateuk, Whatever you do just make sure you use a single hex socket, this will put the maximum amount of loading on the hex of the plug without rounding of the corners. Once you've rounded the corners off the plug then your into mole grips and drilling the plug out....let's try and keep it simple for now. I'd recommend a bit of heat from a blow torch and a long bar with a socket on the end. You could try giving the socket a bit of a tap with a hammer first to ensure it has a good purchase on the plug. Good luck!! Regards SKC

    Superchargers

Hi Menacy and Jason, Thanks for your replies to this thread. I have spent a lot of time and money developing my business and the products that we sell. I am sure you will therefore understand that I am not going to print on this or any other forum the specifications or components used to achieve the performance levels we market. I am however more than willing to accept orders from each of you should you wish to purchase products from us. Regards SKC

    Superchargers

Hi Dennis, What level of performance are you looking for? If you're looking for something over about 280bhp then the costs start to get expensive. The engine needs uprated components, then there's the cost of the super charger, then there's the cost of the installation work (inter cooler, pipe work and cooling system), then there's the cost of a programmable ECU. I've built normally aspirated 2.3's for customers for the road with 270bhp and they've scared themselves as soon as they've driven it. How much power do Caterham owners really need and can they really handle it? In fact that could be a good subject for a new thread!! Regards SKC
  7. Give Banbury Powder Coating a call. They do a great job and will even blast or acid dip parts for you before hand if required. Regards SKC
  8. Check the connection between the fan itself and the chassis / engine harness. Are the terminals all correctly located in the plastic plugs? Have terminals been pushed out the rear of the plugs when the two halves have been pushed together? Have the plugs been left disconnected for some reason (radiator removed and forgot to re-connect the fan!!)? There is no separate sensor for the fan, it's controlled by the ECU water temp sensor and then activated via the relay. Also check the fuse. Regards SKC
  9. Hi Jack, YHM Regards SKC
  10. Guys, Interesting post this but why do you need to change the ECU to another make? On all our conversions we start by replacing the MBE with a programmable one. This then allows us to put our calibrations into the ECU. If you go for a direct replacement MBE ECU then you can still use your existing engine wiring loom reducing the cost. Regard SKC

  12. Hi AntR, Just had a look at mine for you and I too have a gap between the top of the tube running up the center of the baffle and the underside of the top of the tank. The baffle piece of the tank sits or locates on the ridge in the lower half of the tank. Ensure the large section O ring is clean and dry before re-assembling. If you can get someone to apply a light load on top of the tank when you're doing up the bolt in the retaining strap, it will help with getting the two halves to seal. If you've got any issues, I'm over in Banbury if you want to pop over. Regards SKC
  13. Morning, The sprung loaded tensioner that tensions the alternator and water pump belt does have larger mounting holes in it than are really required for the M8 studs than are used to locate it. This means that the tensioner may have been out slightly out of alignment causing the noise issue that you had. Hope all's well now!! Regards SKC
  14. Hi, Check that all the pulleys are tight as well as the belt covers are tight. Also try spraying a little WD40 on the back of the alternator drive belt with the engine running. Sometimes if there is a slight misalignment it can cause the belt to try and slide / move on the plain pulleys and make a noise. WD40 will allow this to happen without belts slipping off. Regards SKC

    Sigma wet sump plug

Hi Garth, I wouldn't recommend doing this. I tried to drill and tap a sump plug for my Sigma engine once and the sump plug wall thickness became very thin so opted not to measure the temperature in this way. We ended up fitting a heat exchanger to our engine and put a temperature sensor in the oil line from the heat exchanger to the engine oil feed. Works a treat!! Oil temperature is up to operating temperature with in four or five miles and oil temp never goes above 100 degrees. Regards SKC
  16. Hi Pugwash, I think the wheel speed sensors have flashing lights on to tell if they are working or not. Put the rear of the car up on stands and spin the rear wheel by hand to see if you have a light flashing on the wheel speed sensor (offside rear wheel, in font of drive shaft). I think you'll also have to have the ignition on for this. If no flashing light, first check the condition of the wire from the sensor, any visual damage? Check the connector near the rear bulk head. If all appears ok remove the sensor and check the tip of it. Any signs of damage? If not then try refitting sensor and resetting gap. Check the trigger on the drive shaft as well to see if there is any visual damage. Hope this helps!! Regards SKC

    Synchrometer

Hi Jack, We're six miles west of Banbury if that's any help. I could check the balance of these for you while you wait if you like. Best regards SKC
  19. Hi SuperSevenG, To check out the health of your engine, try giving it ideally a cylinder leakage test or if you can't get hold of someone to do this, a compression test. Warm the engine up to operating temperature first and then carry out the test. If you've got a ring sealing issue then air will be heard coming out of the breather or dipstick tube. Check all four cylinders and see what the variation is across the cylinders. If all look fairly similar then take a look at the oil level. At least this test will confirm or not that the engine is mechanically sound. If you have any further questions on this, please let me know. Best regards SKC

  21. Morning All, Insurance is an interesting point. I went through Competition Car Insurance where I got a policy with restricted road use (5000 miles a year) and cover for six trackdays. When I explained to them that I had a modified Sigma with 200bhp they said it didn't matter. I also got a quote from Adrian Flux who weren't bothered about performance either. I did approach another broker who advertises in Low Flying that wouldn't insure me because I hadn't owned a performance car for five years. Regards SKC
  22. Hi Luegonigel, The symptoms you have are very common on the 150 Caterham Sigma. Other than checking throttle body balance there is nothing you can do as the ECU is locked by Caterham. ☹️ We've developed three upgrades for Sigma engines, 155, 175 and 200 bhp. People that have driven them have commented on the massive improvement in driveability, throttle response and performance compared with Caterham's own engines. As I'm sure you are aware Caterham have replaced the 150 Sigma with the 140 Supersport. Please check out our website for further details of our products; http://www.premierpowerengines.com/products/1.6SigmaEngine Regards SKC
