  1. Black electrical tape carefully applied to seal the seam between jpe and scuttle was the neatest solution I came up with. Takes a few attempts to get it looking good though.
  2. Can't you update the DTA software to cope?
  3. I think you will need washers to space/fill the gap between the cage and the side skins unless your cage and chassis mate together far more accurately than mine did.
  4. Isn't it stamped on them like the webber ones?
  5. Can you give a contact number so we can discuss I could get a whole set.
  6. Anyone got one or maybe a pair surplus, condition not too important as long as they're straight.
  7. Sorry double post Edited by - StewartG on 6 Dec 2004 14:44:53
  8. Roger, I'm interested in the verniers and the fuel pump but what type of pump is it and will the verniers fit my engine? I believe there are two types of teeth profile on the cam belt. One belt has semi circular teeth and the other is different, I'm not sure how. What's the difference and which one have you got? Regards Stewart
  9. Simon I would say the chokes are too big, for the road 36 or maybe 38mm will give much better driveability. You may also be describing a progression type problem ie a hesitant pick up between idle and say 1500ish rpm. This can be improved by either extra progression holes or perhaps the Bill Shurvington method of adjusting the closed butterfly position not to give correct idle speed but so that the first progression hole is uncovered as soon as the butterfly moves. I haven't tried this as I don't have the required ability to trim the idle speed via the ignition advance but I can report major improvements with extra progression holes. It's fairly common knowledge that Caterham's carb set-up was not ideal and significant benefit comes from different jets and 3D ignition. Iwould suggest a call to QED, they will give you their recommendations for your engine spec, they know these engines and carbs, it won't be far out.
  10. If you let it be known what chokes and jets you have at the moment I'm sure someone will be along with recommendations.
  11. About 120 miles from a tankfull 150 max.

    Silicon hose

I'm looking for a silicon top radiator hose. The one that goes from the thermostat housing to the rad with a Vx engine. Don't suppose anyone has one surplus to requirements or a recommendation as to a supplier nearish to London Thanks Stewart
  13. Thanks Barry, I must admit I thought they were much more expensive than that new.
  14. Anybody out there got a set of 38mm chokes for DCOE 45's Thanks Stewart
  15. Adrain, you need a heavier engine this will solve the problem.
  16. Whilst I believe I have a rudimentary grasp of what the Idle, pump and main jets do and I think I've got the hang of the progression holes, can someone help me to understand the workings of the air corrector jets and emulsion tubes. What difference will changing to a bigger number air corrector jet make to the fuelling and what can be achieved by different emulsion tubes and what does their numbering mean. Thanks Stewart

    R500 30K

Any publicity is good publicity. This one is still near the top of the list whereas the others have dropped down out of sight.
  18. Not quite the same as carbon I know but in a similar quest to rid the car of the last remaining chrome bits I sprayed mine black with Hammerite, worked for me and matched the headlights, wheels and roll cage.

    R500 30K

It's the hope that price isn't always a guide to quality that keeps the world searching for a bargain. You could try Howard Dawson's R500 at £4500 less and half the mileage it has a full SLR cage as well and its impossible to find fault with it as it never comes out of the garage.
  20. I feel that progressive springs may be a jack of all trades master of none type compromise. Surely the correct linear rate would be more predictable. That's how they feel to me anyway. Another point may be that the standard front spring arrangement is progressive in the opposite way to the rears ie more wheel travel, less spring rate as the springs become more and more horizontal. Front and back matched characteristics must be the preferred solution. Bring on the bellcranks.
  21. Hm, very interesting, this will be the bike carbs, mikunis or Keihins? I hope you can keep us informed of progress Foxy those carbs are light years ahead of webbers if their performance on bikes is anything to go by
  22. These spanners are now rarer than hens teeth, Caterham no longer keep them and I couln't find them at any of the usual suspects, Whiting, Ratrace Redline etc. I did get some from Hyperion. If you can find some I would buy a set, you never adjust the ride height and leave it, there's always a temptation to try another half a turn just to see... Good Luck
  23. It seems the standard Caterham inlet manifold with carbs is regarded as something of a limiting factor. What can be done without resorting to injection? Are there alternatives that will fit? What's wrong with the standard one, can it be improved?
  24. Thought I'd give fellow seveners first bite of the cherry plus there's so many scams on e-bay plus they charge a commission.
  25. I have rediscovered my collection of old magazines mostly from the 80s and 90s, they are mostly CAR magazine with some AUTOCAR and others plus FAST BIKE and SUPERBIKE and once again sundry others. Whilst there is minimal Caterham content they do make interesting and even nostalgic reading for petrolheads Anybody interested in making me an offer, I thought 50p an issue might be appropriate. Even more off topic, I've found hundreds of hifi mags the earliest is from 1975 up to the current issue. These are mostly HI FI NEWS with some HI FI ANSWERS any interest in these at the same price?
