  1. Yes I do mean the front of the engine, its where the Injection Unit is uppermost and it is the higher part of that injection unit (Black 'plastic' where it has the word injection) that touches the bonnet. If you throttle the natural tilt of the engine takes it off the bonnet but as I say it does not look good, I wouldn't want it to develop any further without paying attention to it. Steve
  2. I'd like to get more info on this. I have the same problem. Upon checking I believe the rectangular piece refereed to has already been 'sawn' off. My Injector housing is touching the louvred bonnet for the length of about 5 louvres (At the very front end)and has caused the ally bonnet to show signs of damage and the 'plastic'? Injection housing has had grooves worn it it. It's the B***** rattle that annoys let alone I don't want the damage to escalate. Any suggestions please? Car is a 1.6K Year 2007 Roadsport All the best Steve
  3. Tech Talk is a 'busy' forum. Lots of stuff repeats and that is not a problem. Could Tech Talk be sub divided into sections - for example - similar to but not necessarily the same as Caterham On-Line catalogue headings i.e Major/Prime Heading would be Tech Talk, sub groups, Engine, Bodywork, Cooling, Chassis etc and so on. That way re-finding topics would be easier (historical stuff) getting to a search might be easier by going straight to the sub section you want.
  4. Hi AdC We are referring to the lap belt (tensioner /loose webbing) being 'pulled up ' from the floor , as 'pulling down' toward the floor in a 7 is nigh on impossible. I was only reffering to a 4 point (for raod use - not racing) - I have no idea about a 6 poin, but would only guess that it has similarities about how it is tensioned. Regards Steve
  5. Thanks Roadsport 06 I guess you saw the posting above yours. I think its all working, as there is temp increases in idle. That said, now for the embarrassing bit, I don't think it has a thermostat. Er hum ....where will I find it ? It's a 1.6K 2007. It has an expansion tank, nothing in the Rad. This Caterham is my first so its all a bit new to me. Cheers Steve
  6. As newbie to Caterhams I have found this Forum very useful and helpful. So, here goes again. I saw a recent ad for a 7 for sale (NB I am not looking for one - I have one!) , the guy stated he'd always used WD 40 on the bodywork to keep it protected. He did not state if on paintwork - I assume he meant on the alluminium . Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone coat there exposed Ally bits with WD40? - Be interested to know. Second , not every Craterham owner is fortunate enough to have a Brick Garage. Anybody have any comment on portable garages /storage. Do you have one. If so any comments,
  7. Hello to everyone who responded and to conclude this post. Everyone's information was valid. What worked for me was. I tested gauge and wiring as advised (shorting wiring down to earth) proved gauge was working and wiring OK Checked 'tightness'/ fitting of all connections. Installed new temperature sender unit. On a run it only went up to 40 degrees. When doing a Caterham K series Oil check (i.e idling the engine) it went up to 80 degrees and fan cut in. So it seems its just a low reading when on the road sucking in all that coldish/warmish English air!!! Mind you what a long winded oil check!!! Cheers Steve
  8. Hi, Thanks to everyone who responded to this. And specifically to Jez and Mike for their efforts to get me sorted. Some one has come up with a solution that I couldn't refuse. Once again thanks everyone Steve
  9. Hi Mike and Jez Based on some of above comments , can you confirm the Black Caterham 4 points you both have are "Pull Up" (on the lap belt) , as opposed to pull down Cheers Steve
  10. Thanks Michael I have e mailed Jez to ensure these two 4 points match - I know!!!! I am a fussy tart. That being the case likely i will buy form you both. Await to her from Jez then I'll get back to both of you. Cheers Steve
  11. Hi Roger here is the link that was referred to earlier. http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=214930 it was me that asked. It was my Tonneau cover. I had same problem, The hole became 'larger'. I tried rivnut with a cheap rivnut tool - never again, i broke the mandrel, I have yet to fix mine, so found this post interesting , I think i may go for the peel rivet good luck! cheers Steve
  12. Thanks for offer Jez Nicely priced. Being the fussy tart I am , I wanted a matching pair! But never the less some good feedback, Thanks everyone Steve
  13. I am thinking about replacing existing Caterham (Seat Belt style) Harness with a 4 point quick release set-up. Mainly for road use. Mainly because I like the look of such kit and I think it suits the car. So I am not expecting to go racing , just the odd track day . Was looking at Luke, Sabelt, Willans or Caterham's own etcetc . Does anybody have any good / bad stories to tell? Any tips? Any fitting problems? I know this is not rocket science but it's always good to comments from you experienced guys before parting with hard earned cash!!!! Cheers
  14. Thanks Johnty As a 'newbie' and just to ensure I am doing this right. I take it you mean the temperature sender and not the Temperature Sender - Water Temperature to ECU - 1.6 EU3 as listed in Caterham's parts when I search for temperature sender unit. Caterham list both. My car is a S3 (2007 year) Both parts exist adjacent to each other. Both have clean and tight terminals, so am taking it is the sender unit which is the non- ECU Cheers Steve
  15. I am sorry if this has been up before. Basic problem is my Water temp gauge "appears" to register a reading when it feels like it. There is no particular situation / condition/ circumstance that causes the following problem. Gauge reads no more than 40 , does not always read at all. Could be a cold day or a warm /hot day. It comes up to 40 and then goes down again, matters not whether I am moving or stationary, Any thoughts on which to tackle first - sender unit? Gauge? Air Lock?, Wiring? I know one of you guys has the answer - sorry can't offer a prize for best answer!! All advice much appreciated.
  16. Tim (And everyone) thanks you for your response Specifically Tim , thanks or the links, I do not think it was a security fastener - just poorly fitted I believe. That said I think the Peel rivet will suffice
  17. Now you are talking to a dumber !! I guess I should say novice to be fair to myself. What is a Peel rivet please? And , where to purchase, tools required etc. thank you for your response Steve
  18. Any suggestions - serious ones only please! Previous owner attempted to fit tonneau cover. All fasteners attach OK EXCEPT (on both sides) the "side/rear" fastener, just below the Roll Bar area. What appears to have happened (unless I am the dumb one? ☹️) is the guy has used a 'huge' rivet to the point it has expanded the Dot Fastener so the Dot Fastener Socket will not fit over it. I thought (being clever!) I'd drill out the rivet and replace the Dot Fastener. No such luck the size of the rivet hole in the Ally body (NOT me drilling it out!) is around 3/16 " to 1/4" Any ideas as to how I can repair this so I can fit the tonneau properly or is it a case of ... what? Thanks in anticipation for any help people. Cheers Steve
