  1. Hi Anthony, It was me looping back via the Strines road following a few hours at Dave Wingfield getting a couple things sorted on the car. As it was dry it seemed rude not to go the long way and bed the new brake pads in. Hope you all had a good drive Pete.
  2. Thanks for the advice Jonathan. They are sending a courier to collect it tomorrow and then a full refund, so I won't be out of pocket. I currently don't feel the acid damage to tray area or floor warrants the effort of a claim, it's just hassle and tarnish to a car I've strived to keep imaculate. Dissapointing. I will take photos tonight and make a note of the conversation, just in case I find more damage when I take a close look / fit the new PVR25 in the next few days. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning up the mess and flushing the area with copious amounts of water so hope it's ok now. Thanks again.
  3. Hi patneale, Me, racing, no. I'm way to slow 😬 and poor! It's just a bog standard 120 bhp Roadsport. Seems few have suffered leaking acid, so not sure why I have this time. I spoke to Tayna this morning and they agree my alternator charging voltage is not an issue but would not accept the battery could be an issue. They refused to replace but have agreed a refund on return. So I'll package it up tonight and have to put this wasted time and acid damage to car and floor down as experience. Think it could be a good time to contemplate another type of battery. Thanks for all the advice folks. Pete Edited by - speakmp on 23 Apr 2014 18:10:25
  4. One more question, the vent holes, one on either side of the battery, one for the vent tube, but what about the other? Is it meant to be removed or left plugged? My previous battery had both removed and served me well for six years. Thanks again, Pete. Edited by - speakmp on 22 Apr 2014 23:02:05
  5. Hi Jonathan, Fully filled and charged, ready to use. Cell six was below the plates though when I checked but this could have been due to the leak and it may have been full when I recieved it. I've checked the voltage which was 14.4. Same as the CTEK charges at. Also checked the tin top for reference whilst we were at it and that runs at 14.4 too. I'll give Tayna a call again in the morning and discuss. Thanks for all the replies. Pete.
  6. Thanks Elie Hi 10uptobase, Yes, I put the breather hose in. This left the pool (approx 5cm diameter) on the garage floor, which has eaten the floor paint! But it's clearly been finding another route out too to flood the tray, which has eaten some footwell paint
  7. Afternoon all, Looking for some advice. Old battery was 6 years old and appears to have given up the ghost. I mail ordered a new Banner battery last week and fitted Tuesday. The seven fired up great so all was well. I had a cheeky 90 minute blat on Wednesday pm and then left the car in the garage. In preperation to blat on Saturday morning I plugged the CTEK conditioner in on Friday pm just in case. Checked under the car on sat morning as per the usual Caterham start of season checks to make sure there where no coolant or oil leaks but found a pool of blue acid from the breather tube. The battery tray being saturated too with crystals and some stripped footwell paint. Battery started the car still, but I removed it to clean the mess up. Not sure when the pool appeared, i.e. before Friday pm or post. Had a good look at the battery to try to understand the cause. Battery looks fine condition wise, i.e. no cracks in casing. There were no leaks on delivery by courier either. I have now checked the levels in each cell. 1 to 5 where ok but 6 was below the plates. Also the cap on cell 6 was chewed up as if opened cack handedly with an ill fitting screw driver. I've topped up cell 6 but not wanted to fit and use again yet as dont want any more mess. I have spoken to Tayna, the supplier, today who confirmed many of these batteries sold so will be fresh and will have come from Banner with the chewed cap. They suggest the acid leak is due to the alternator over charging the battery. Not sure to be honest. Going to try and borrow a volt meter and test this ASAP. Is there anything else I should be considering? Any advice will be appreciated Thanks, Pete
  8. Hello Klunk. It was me. I'd been freezing cold in the mist/fog until a few just before Tideswell so the sun was very welcome, if a bit blinding. Hope you had a good run. Pete
  9. Hi Tom. Had popped to Nonnas for a cheeky coffee with Steve. Hope you are well. Pete
  10. This'll be a very nice and well built car for some one Rob. Good luck with the sale. Pete

  13. It's sorted! New switch arrived from Redline next day and has cured the issue. Thanks once again to all for advice! Looking forward to seeing all those who'll be on Bleu Sud. If this friggin rain doesnt stop I'll be the soggy one arriving Thursday tea time Cheers, PeteSV
  14. Many thanks to all for your advice. Fantastic support as always! Switch ordered from Redline, so will tackle this tomorrow night or Saturday and see how I get on. Markiebabes, it'd be great to meet up, and if you're ever oop north then I'll take you for a cracking blat in the peaks PeteSV
  15. Thanks Charlie, Yes, Thermoswitch. Apologies. 😳 PeteSV
  16. Thanks all for the replies. Mark, Hi and hope you and Fay are well. I've got a connector that I could fit to permanently switch the fan on as a worst case scenario, but the override switch sounds like a cracking idea. Easy to do? Ian, How would I know if there was an airlock, other than trying to bleed and seeing if that cured it? Thanks again, PeteSV
  17. Hi all, It appears my fan isn't switching on. It's (1.6 k series 2006) been driven up to temp and when back on the drive, where I'd normally hear the fan running after a short while, it's not. I've linked the two connectors from the thermostat switch and the fan runs ok. So, I'm thinking that it's looking like a new thermostat is required and after a check on the CC site part number 823959481F seems to be what I need. I am off to Le Mans a week tonight so keen to get this sorted ASAP. Can anyone tell me if this could be a standard thermostat that may be available from a local motor factors at all? Many thanks, PeteSV
  18. Spotted on Ringinglow Road heading away from Sheffield towards Hathersage about 5pm today. I was in some inconspicuous tintop. Splendid choice of colour scheme sir/madam! PeteSV (Red with Gold noseband) 😬
  19. Hi Alan, Gave mine a wash and quick wax this morning and after 4 years and 15k miles I found my first star crack on the off side rear wing below the light cluster. It wasn't there two weeks ago and the car has only done about 2 hours since. It's about the size of a 50p piece. Whilst I'd prefer not to have it and was dissapointed to see it, I am aware from others experiences and threads that it does happen. I've not protected the underside of the wings and am at the same time fairly pleased that this is the first one I have got to be honest. I guess it's a bit of patina. If I was driving an Elise, for example, I think I'd be more worried about it, but for some reason with the 7 I'm less so. Not sure why, and belive me, I really am a polisher (and blatter too, hopefully in equal measures). I'f it gets bigger or I get more in more prominent positions I may feel different. I hope you get yours sorted. As far a protections goes, I guess some of that foam camping mat may be good with some thin sheet plastic on top... maybe. PeteSV

    Petrol pong....

Hi Graham, I had the same last year. Appeared to be coming from the fuel sender gasket, as Nick says there was sign of some dampness, so I replaced this, which was perished to an extent. I then drove off to my local Shell to fill up and realised that there was another issue as petrol dripped onto the floor under the car There was split in the perished rubber hose that connects the filler neck to the fuel tank. It was only 4 years old but well and truely split. It may be worth checking that too. I removed the flap in the filler neck about 3 years ago and have never had the smell of petrol from this. Cheers, PeteSV
  21. Hi Dr, Mines tucked up for the winter TBH 😳 but thats a cracking spotted count for a very cold, but admittedly sunny, February day. Hope you are enjoying the new car PeteSV
  22. Hi Rob, This came up a few weeks back for someone else, and I had the same in August. After changing switches and fuses on mine it turned out to be the Relay. On my 2006 car they are located next to the fuses and I just swapped two of the three round which proved it to be the Relay. Very quick and easy to do. £7, in halfords, later it took 2 mins to fit. HTH PeteSV
  23. Hi Matt Had exactly this a couple of months back just before a track day. Checked everything and it turned out to be the relay had blown. Halfords, 7 odd quid, 2 mins to fit and job done. Good luck PeteSV edited to add: - I tried swapping light switche with a friends as thought this would be the key, but it didnt fix. In the end we found it by swapping my relays around (next to the fuses) HTH Edited by - speakmp on 29 Sep 2011 15:39:23
