  1. Only been running my first 7 😬 a couple of months so all changes make me nervous Engine is 1,4k series supersport. Oil pressure normally runs at between 4 - 6 on gauge. Closer to 6 when cold & 4Β½ when warm. When accelerating the needle goes up a small amount (Β½ to 1). Does this sound usual? Last two days the needle has been starting around 6 as before but is more twitchy / jumpy and tends to stay closer to 6 longer but does end up around 4Β½. When slowing down / changing down at junctions & around town the needle jumps/ jerks up & down as high as 9 (new and scary bit). When touching the wires behind gauge for a loose one the only thing I do is make back lighting go on / off but this does not affect the twitching. Oil checked when engine hot and running as suggested for k series on the 7-up site. Oil OK in dipstick. Ithink (hope) it is more a gauge issue than an engine one. Any ideas what going on? Anything else to check out? Any help to put my mind at rest welcome πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ Ka7ie : -6Β°C, covered in mud & having fun.... SMerK
  2. A few days ago my wife saw my cars doppelganer ..... who were you? you local? Ka7ie 1.4k Supersport SMerK - 6 deg & roof off & covered in mud 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 Edited by - SMerK on 26 Feb 2008 23:19:38 Edited by - SMerK on 26 Feb 2008 23:20:31
  3. Thanks for comments - the forces on the hinges appear minimal as I've learned not to throw the door open (to protect the paint), however, if they do go I think a few of these will be worth the lack of damage to the paint on bonnet - we'll see. Second spacer is a logical step ... Stone chips.... yup but best drives to work I've ever had & not even got to summer yet! 😬 Aeroscreens ready & willing but were a bit cold when used on 24th Dec!! 😬 -6 C and roof off 😬 😬 😬 Edited by - SMerK on 24 Feb 2008 23:11:08
  4. I do not know if this is a new idea - or even if there is an existing part on market ... assuming not : I am using my 7 as much as possible to blat to work. This means using in very wet / dirty state. Paint on bonnet gets rubbed by the door when open & scratched ☹️ Thought of ways around this - came up with this idea that works I have added 5mm packer / washer to one of the four scews holding on door hinge. This makes the screw head higher and causes it to touch the screen upright sooner. Result is that door still sits in open position but without touching the bonnet 😬 Obviously will touch if windy or thrown open - but generally works a treat. I may even look around for a better screw or rubber topped solution - just as long as the principle is the same. Photo's see here (hope they make sense) : Door Stop albumn Hopefully this idea can help more 7's stay looking good ....... Question : I'd like to ask while I have your attension : since using my 7 in cr*p winter weather & salted roads the aluminium screen surround is water / salt marked. ☹️ Any suggestions to clean / stop this. Any cleaning / treatment products known to anyone? Thanks for any help available πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ SMerK Edited by - SMerK on 26 Feb 2008 21:54:41
  5. Looking for a Drivers Side Door (RH Drive! ) 'normal' door i.e. std. size (not SV etc), black (I've seen some interesting colours in the 'Caterham Sevens' history!), door mirror not required, Generally good condition but it does not need to be immaculate! 6. New wiper arms ordered from Caterham today ..... wait & see ..... SMerK
  7. Drat! ☹️ thought that may be one possible answer! However ... I've thought of re-drilling the fixing hole & re-riveting / bolting / fixing somehow (TBC!?) in centre instead of cutting down - as they are same length as old ones the bottom of the sweep would not be lost! Just an alternative idea. SMerK
  8. Bought new wiper blades for S3 (fits all models!! says the blurb) from Caterham. The old ones have the pivot / fixing to arm off center, new ones are in the center. Result = blade ends rest by ca 15mm on windscreen frame (divers side) & both hit the top of frame / roof. Wiper arms are on shortest setting. To date the wiper position the basic the car had complete new chassis rebuild in 2001 (I assume the chassis comes with wiper holes !? - I'm new to Caterhams so pls excuse ignorance ). I will be calling Caterham to find out but anyone able to enlighten me? This problem I had not expected! Ka7ie 1.4k Supersport SMerK Edited by - SMerK on 19 Jan 2008 20:40:52
  9. Good question ... do not know either but Google 'RTV Silicone' & many types turn up & they all seem to be for Automotive / engineering type applications ... I assume they are formulated to bond to metals ... anyone know the ans? SMerK
  10. Any recommendations for silicone sealant (or similar) for renewing footwell / pedal box joints? Caterham sell Granville RTV Silicone Sealant. Anything else worth considering? Thanks πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ SMerK Ka7ie 1.4k Supersport Edited by - SMerK on 18 Jan 2008 13:36:36 Edited by - SMerK on 18 Jan 2008 18:49:35
  11. Thanks Gents - the gearbox bolt looks like a cleaner solution! πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ SMerK
  12. I need to fit a reversing light switch. I (think) I've located the correct hole in the gear box from on-line build manual (opposite access hole on drivers side of central transmission tunnel). I have the switch from Caterham. The wiring has only 1 wire with a press stud type connector on the end (like a single 9V battery connector). The advice from Caterham Part dept. (really helpful with advice, especially for newcomers like me, - thanks πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ) is that I have an older wiring loom designed for the older FORD(?) gearbox switch (earthed via the gearbox). So... I can fit the new switch with the live / earth pins. Connect the live wire (button changed to a push on fitting) to the switch. I will need to create a new earth connection from the second pin. Caterham Parts advice was to the Chassis itself. Help & advice please : Does what I've detailed above make sense? Anyone spot a flaw in it? 😳 How & where do I terminate the new earth wire? My inclination is to drill a very small hole in a chasis tube & screw the wire down (round connector end). BUT drilling the tubes makes me nervous. Am I being too cautious? 😳 or is there a better way? A proprietary fixing or clip or strap or...anything that can be recommended? Any advice very welcome. 😬 Ka7ie 1.4k Supersport Edited by - SMerK on 16 Jan 2008 13:22:51 Edited by - SMerK on 16 Jan 2008 13:23:56
  13. Having great time in my 7 😬 😬 😬.... in Rain, Fog, Sub zero temps. Roof up if must (am using for commuting!) but roof down whenever possible. Looking forward to dry, less greasy roads as still careful of cornering as no idea where lits are! 😳 Heater a lot less necessary than I thought but for sub. zero roof off days it would be nice ... and finger tips get cold after 1/2 hour even in Ski gloves! So .... Still looking for Heater for 'Katie'(she came with the name from her racing days & kids insist it is kept / used). 14. Gary, Pictures would be welcome. I'm not in a hurry as am prepared to rough it for now. Thanks Steve
  15. Thanks Alan ..... I think... As long as my 7 does not leak enough to need the water protection in the photo on the website .... I think I will be a whimp and have a heater .... although I expect to still have different parts of my body at different temps SMerK
  16. Yes I bought one! 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 Now I need a heater for it. Anyone have one for a 1994 year 7? SMerK Edited by - steve kerridge on 10 Dec 2007 20:51:27
