  1. AFAIK the Bernard Scouse linkage comes with the air box although it must be possible to buy separately - not sure if it will fit a x-flow - I think it's designed for k-series SV 52 CAT - moles fly - here Edited by - Mole on 9 Apr 2004 22:49:27

    Polishing Alu

I found autosol too coarse to get a good finish but it's a good for starting off if the ali still has its original "grain" showing. Peek foam is OK but hard work, Mother's Mag nothing special - IME the best seems to be Autoglym Metal polish. SV 52 CAT - moles fly - here
  4. I posted on a similar thread some weeks ago - I've replaced my fuse with a 25 amp circuit breaker (available from DT's and I'm sure other places as well). It has a manual cut-off button so can also be used as an additional securiy feature. Page 192 of the 2004 Motorsport catalogue - ETA series 1170, also available in 20 and 30 amp ratings. 6. I have one which I no longer need having upgraded to an Emerald ECU. It's from a 2002 1.8 K-series (EU3). I'm still using the immobiliser with the Emerald, but I believe a Rover main dealer should be able to match the ECU to a new immobiliser. If this isn't possible we might be able to come to an arrangement if you can supply me with a replacement immobiliser module. E-mail me if you're interested. SV 52 CAT - moles fly - here

  11. Yep - I've used them and can confirm that they're hard to get on but work fine. The ones I used push into the oil pipe on one side and have a normal screw fitting to attach to whatever you're attaching to (sandwich plate, Laminova or whatever) so when you want to remove them you just unscrew them but leave the push on bit still attached to the oil hose. Nosecone air vents

I'll send you some photos - I've left the filter as it was and just built a box round it with a vertical partition up to the underside of the nosecone and another down to the side of the radiator - difficult to explain but obvious when you see the photos ! I don't have your e-mail address to hand but if you send it to me I'll e-mail pics. SV 52 CAT - moles fly -

    Nosecone air vents

Just road-tested the filter box modification with excellent results: OAT 8.5 deg C, inlet air temp 11.5 - 12 deg C. Previously I would have been seeing an inlet temp in the region of 24 - 25 deg C. I doubt that putting a vent in the nosecone would achieve anything much better than this so I'm going to leave it intact. All I need to do now is to work out how to make something a bit better engineered than the current cardboard and sticky tape version 😬. SV 52 CAT - moles fly -

    Airlock?

The method suggested by Stevo is the one described in my copy of Caterham's Assembly Guide - I've always done it this way and never had any airlock problems (touch wood). SV 52 CAT - moles fly -
  18. I think a lot of people are swapping their prisoners for the R300/R400 10 spoke alloys which have now replaced the prisoner alloys as the standard 15" wheel sold by Caterham. I've been looking for some prisoners to keep as spares and must say I haven't noticed a "flood". Simon - I'm interested but not at £200 😳 - let me know if they don't sell on ebay SV 52 CAT - moles fly -
  19. Ditto Mr L's experience - my SVA inspector picked up on it but gave me a few minutes to get it sorted while he went for a coffee 😬. I seem to remember that it was only one of them that needed to be vertical - trouble is I can't remember which one SV 52 CAT - moles fly Edited by - Mole on 20 Mar 2004 19:50:23

    Nosecone air vents

I've just spent the evening with cardboard, scissors and sticky tape making a box round the air filter so that it's shielded from the radiator and takes most of its supply from the air flowing past the radiator and down the side of the nosecone. Hopefully road testing over the weekend - watch this space for results .... Edited by - Mole on 19 Mar 2004 23:03:55

    Nosecone air vents

I used a small digital display from Maplin that allows up to four remote temp sensors to be connected (it also doubles as a clock!). I've put one temp probe right at the front of the chassis, shielded as much as possible from the cooling effect of high speed, and one in the airbox via a grommet in an unused hole in the backplate. The display unit is rigged with a small switch so I can switch the display between the two sensors and see the relative readings for external and inlet temperature. Cost of the whole set up - an amazing £16 plus battery, cable ties and a piece of ali to mount the display (p 645 of last years Maplin Catalogue part nos FE33L and 2x FE34M). I can send photos etc if you let me have an e-mail address. Edited by - Mole on 19 Mar 2004 23:16:22

    Nosecone air vents

Thanks guys. Tony - I've fitted temperature sensors to measure external air temp and the temp inside the air box. I'm regularly seing an inlet air temp 15 deg + over external air temperature. This is the reason I'm looking at ways of getting cooler air to the air filter and into the airbox. SV 52 CAT - moles fly -
