I'm pulling my hair out trying to get a phone line to work, and BT are not very helpful.
I would therefore value any advice you might have - please bear with me I'm a bit of a technical numpty.
Moved to new house this year.
House was used as business and residence, I would there fore expect 2 BT lines.
Standing outside of the house there are 2 separate cables from the telegraph pole to the property, each going to a different part of the house.
One of the cables (containing 4 pieces of wire) is split to supply 2 (NTE5 or CTE5?) lineboxes, one of which has a dailing tone and is being used for phone and internet, the other is "dead". Unfortunately this working line is in a part of the property (old office) where you can't hear the phone ring and wireless phone and internet signals do not get to the rest of the house.
The second cable from the telegraph pole supplies a standard BT socket in another part of the property (the bit where we live), this socket has a dailing tone, but I'm not able to call out on it, and when I ring in the phone connected to this socket does not ring.
The obvious answer would seem to be that there are 2 lines into the house and unfortunately the wrong one was connected when we moved in.
The problem is that whenever I call BT I get a standard reply that there is only one phone line to the property.
Is there anything I can do myself with the wiring?
Is there anyone I can either call or write to at BT that will have some understanding of what I'm trying to achieve?
Thans in advance
Rob
