  1. Graham, what are your reasons to "upgrade" to wider? Both myself and another R400 owner local have found "downgrade" rears to same as fronts to bring very satisfying results. Peter
  2. Was just about to say bend rather than break then saw RP's post. Peter
  3. The bottim pin can be a "bit stiff" to extract from the bottom spherical bearing. Be propared to give it some oomph and maybe replace the bearing. Why does the upright need changing? Peter
  4. Listen to Simpy and Zetec first! 100 deg C is not necessarily overheating and as mentioned, the fan may not yet be ready to switch on. Also the temp gauge is probably +/-5% Peter
  5. Yes , the weather was wonderful. I had to phone home to report that my expected blat duration was to be double the original "agreement" made as I shot out the the drive just before lunchtime. , errr, I mean 😬 You should be on the beach, not your mobile!!! Peter
  6. Myles Regarding the "well" I know where you're coming from. The hole dia is kina generous. It believe it's 'cos if all the holes were tight tolerance the cage would just never line up on all the fixings. The up-pointing bolt (shaved head) may clear even with washer in static build condition but under load and in hard bump the top ring of the strut may contact the bolt head. Whether this would be noticeable from a noise and/or suspension behavior pov is doubtful. Peter
  7. From this morning's experience I do not plan to make any geometry changes. Currently running -1 7/8 deg. Usual issue on road that insufficient proportion of time spent hard cornering to justify any more. My track activities are very scarce at present. P
  8. Yaar, that sounds about what I'd aim for. One of the problems on the road is difficulty in getting consistent warm up. Therefore always used to set my CR500s at 20F 21R cold. The zzr seem to have warmed more than I expected. May be just cos it turned quite warm and I was giving it "some". (!) You've raced on them, iirc from your other postings? P
  9. Just fitted ZZR for the first time. 185/215 Superlight R400. Went for a wee trundle around the Cotswolds. Started late morning on wet roads, turning to dry. In the wet I would say as good as/better that CR500 (not talking about puddles and surface"lake/river". For that a CR28 is the baby) In the dry, warm, very grippy. Lots to play with especially if you want to start pouring on some big power through and exiting bends. Pretty controllable at limit when provoked with throttle. Overall feel slightly thick (gooey?) feel compared to CR500. Deffo not posessing the precision delicacy of feel from the CR500 but still very good. Set at 21psi when set off. Seemed to pick up more warmth than CR500 so 24psi by return home (200 miles). When cold I will reset baseline to 19psi. {errm, yes should probably have checked pressures half way round and dropped to 22 warm, but I didn't ) Toodle pip. Peter
  10. My breather has a length of screenwash tube. Up into rhe boot. It used to have a bottle at the end but as no oil ever got that far up tube I did aeay with catch bottle. Peter
  11. Myles If applying oxy/acet levels of heat there's a high chance of melting the braze holding the bush in... care! For the upwards bolts above shocks, method I used was to drill head off using large dia drill, 12mm iirc. I then sawed the boss off the cage and had a new one made complete with threaded hole. Nice big chamfer round joining on end. Linished base of cage and welded new boss on to cage. Touch in with Black satin Hammerite. The finished job was functionally and aesthetically excellent. Peter
  12. Whatever the spring rates it is very unlikely they are same or softer than standard or Superlight spec. Freestyle sold "upgrade" so therefore stiffer. Combined with adjustable dampers it's easy to get the whole thing too hard. Colin Chapman promoted concept of firmly damped long travel soft springs (also a success factor for French performance hatches) Lighter tyres may help too. Have you driven other 7s to compare? Peter
  13. 0121 3311122 ask for Peter in motorsport dept. Peter
  14. BMTR same price as Caterham Cars but you get fitting, balancing and no carriage charge if you go and get them. Just up the M5 from you. I just got a set and itching to use them. They are black and sticky and smell nice! 😬 Peter
  15. Basically yes. Some if the fixings are accessible both sides, some into rivnuts in the skin. Hopefully as you have nylon screws they won't be rusted in (although they could be stuck and snap!). Rear lamps on 'econoseal' inline multiplug harness connectors. Good luck Peter
  16. Depending how the tester reads the manual it is possible that any(?) kit built 7 is checked for smoke only. Certainly for my 2005 car. If the tester does not see it that way it would be difficult to pursuade him otherwise. Peter
  17. "quite necessary" - yepp, essential! If you are running a wide track without these, you might best regard your front suspension as having important parts missing. The reports that CC seem ambivalent to their fitment is disappointing and of concern. Peter
  18. 13" x 6" wide ET 23 or 24 and Avon CR28 Sport 185/60 all round Mega grip in wet. ok in dry. Never much chance that rubber will go off or age. Introduce throttle balanced chassis into your life! Peter
  19. Interested. Have cw already and find its heavy build quite acceptable. Presumably available as a kit or factory built!?! Peter
  20. Suggestion #4: Just get on with the driving an' dinny worry ye'sel 'bout a couple o' wee marks. 😬 Peter
  21. Quoting ballisticsupersport: Hi Chris, Mine doesn't have the hex spacer, but it does have the adjustable dampers. Looking at Andrew's photo it looks like his are fixed units? From your original photo Chris it looks like you have a washer under the bolt head, could just be a trick of the light. I didn't put a washer in this position, have just checked page 63 (5.3) on the manual ( 2013 version....) and it makes no mention of washers when fitting the upper wishbone - vaguely remember this being counter intuitive at the time but ok'd explain the gap. Just a thought. Best check with Derek! I hope CC are cloning him The bit that looks like a washer in cb's photos is the stiffener disc welded to the chassis to fully form the top pick up point. Without this the this bracket would not be strong enough to take the loads imposed upon it by the sping/damper top mount bolt. Andrew's phots are wide track and are indeed fixed platform. The spacer is correctly there as it should be for wide track. The presence of adjustable platforms is not a substitute for having the incorrect spring/damper assembly length. Peter
  22. Quoting cb4798: I spoke to Derek today.......... The supersports are generally supplied without the extensions so that the ride height is lower for the track.............. The extensions are added to increase the ride height but also help with the gap issue. Is this what CC the OEM are giving out over the phone??? The extensions are for wide track to make the spring damper assembly long enough for the longer wishbones, specifically the lower one to which it attaches. I do not understand the statement about making the ride height lower for the track. If the spacer was left out, the sump would be pretty much resting on the ground. Never a problem to get a low enough ride height with the spacer in place. There is still plenty of scope to raise the ride height should one desire but the more the lower wishbones are away from horizontal (sloping down towards the wheels) the more compromised the front geometry. eta: Also without the spacer the max bump and drop positions are compromised. Even if the ride height is set to whichbones level using the adjustable platforms, the operating travel range is changed. At full bump the sump will be much closer to the road (bang?) and at full rebound the front wheels will not have as much droop meaning the inside front wheel in a turn will lift off the tarmac sooner as its downward travel is limited. The turned ali spacer shown in photos in Scpwler's post above is better than no spacer but looks shorter than the specified spacer. I agree it looks nice but should be made to match the height of the factory spacer. Unless CC have totally redesigned the front spring/damper assembly recently? Which I doubt.
