  1. Paul, I'm having problems configuring a late immobiliser to work with a '97 EU2 ECU, have you investigated how you will do this or do you not think that there will be any problems. If you end up having a spare ECU and/or immobiliser, any chance of a shot at it? Paul J.
  2. I'm still looking guys, so if anyone has anything I'd be more than gratefull, I could make do with just an immobiliser and remote plipper if it was off an EU2 car of around '95-'97 vintage.
  3. I don't seem to be getting anywhere fast trying to find a matched pair of EU2 ECU and Immobilizer, so has anyone got an older immobilizer on it's own [with remote plipper of course] of around 1997 vintage, which I can then get paired up with my existing MEMS ecu. Better still of course, would be an Emerald ECU with cables map etc that can be configured with my existing but new immobiliser.
  4. Quite so, but I won't have to waste £200 on top of the cost of an Emerald though will I!
  5. I'm not sure that it really is worth that much Arnie. The scrapyards are filling up fast with Rover cars with MEMS units now, with K series engine which no longer work due to head gasket problems etc. The ECU is also one of the first things to be changed when an engine is upgraded too. Besides which, if I was going to spend that much I would rather go the whole way and get an Emerald unit now, so that it is already in place for any future upgrades. 6. All very erudite, but I don't suppose that any of this will help me run my car with a non matched pair or no immobilizer at all though, will it? Paul. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  7. Tony, I tried to mail you off list, but couldn't get my message accepted. I never know how much things like this are worth, but does £40:00 incl P&P sound about right? Regards Paul J. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  8. Thanks for the comendation Angus, it looks even better now. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  9. "Barking Mad" - yes, welcome to the pack, we're all a bit like that here, some more than others I think I've got a hankering for something with an R in front of the model designation, so my brand new, as yet unregistered 1600 K, 5 speed dedion, with leather "S" seats, full weather equipment [but no heater, though one could easily be fitted] could be available. Colour is a very subtle black plastic, bonnet and scuttle, with silver stripe up it, with polished ali sides and back panel, with a 7 grill. It has a 22% quick rack, but the wheels are 14". Pricewise, I'm looking for about £14,500 [ono of course] As you are in Cheltenham I'm only an hour down the motorway from you [if you cruise at 85 Do let me know if you are interested, but bear in mind that it will probably be another 4-6 weeks before it's MoT'd and SVA'd and ready for the road. Come for a look and a chat anyway if you've got the time. Give me a ring on 01823 421748 if it tickles your fancy. Paul J. 10. Rupe, Sorry to take so long to get back to you. Unless anyone knows better, I don't think the EU3 pair will work properly and I will also have plug compatability problems I think. Thanks for the offer though. I still need a matching pair, so all of you who have upgraded, dig in your attics for that old ECU and immobiliser. Thanks all. Paul J. 11. I also used a garden tractor battery on my Vx engined 21, with no cranking or rundown problems. The only thing to note though, is that the original "Banner" battery has flush filler plugs on the top, allowing the battery strap to fit neatly over them, whereas the only garden tractor battery I could find had screw in plugs that stand proud of the top and b**gger up the strap fitting, otherwise these seem to work fine and are the cheapest option available.
  12. Whoa, thanks to both Julian and Mike,as well as Steve and the rest of you. Lets not get too heavy about this, all advice is most appreciated so please don't anyone get too upset. Julian, I only have the one used ECU and the brand new immob'r and nothing will arm or disarm, or even flash the LED. If I can't find a matching pair, then I will probably go down the route suggested by the Mole [thanks Steve], as I will no doubt eventually upgrade anyway, I just wasn't planning to do it just yet 🙆🏻 Any other thoughts are most welcome, but especially if someone has a matched pair that is surplus to requirements Paul. 13. I've run into a really big snag. I am using an older 115bhp 1600 K engine and ECU in a new chassis, with current immobiliser. The two cannot be made to work together, so I either need another ECU/Imobiliser [see my wanted advert] or the other path is to disarm the immobiliser - if possible. Is there anyone here who knows if this is possible and how it can be done? Perhaps because of the sensitive nature of this enquiry, it may be better to email me off list. 14. Does anyone have a redundant MEMS ECU and matching immobiliser from a 115bhp 1600 K series, that they don't require any longer. My old [1997] ECU and current spec immobiliser can't be made to work together according to Caterham, so I desperatley need another matching pair to get my engine running again. The other option is if anyone has an Emerald ECU that is now surplus to requirements and they want to sell. All offers of help gratefully considered. Thanks Paul. 15. Still on the lookout for any bits and pieces
  16. I haven't even finished building my car yet, and I'm looking around for upgrade bits already! Does anyone have any of the following which they want to dispose of please:- Fresh air heater Six speed gearbox Limited slip dif or just the LSD unit on its own AP 4 pot front brake calipers, discs not too important Tillet seats, carbon or GRP Complete 1.8 K series engine , preferably up to around 190 bhp +, with or without throbble botties and ECU etc. Emerald EU2 compatable ECU Any other must have bits! 17. That sounds like a great idea Steve, I still can't get the thing to power up. Spoke to Tony at Caterham today, and he reckons that all immobiliser units should be optimised with the ECU ;before they work, so this could be the problem. They have the facility to do it at the factory [or at least the no a man who can] so I'll get the offending bits off to them and see if we can't get it all to work. I'll post back results as and when. Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven
  18. Thanks everyone, I have tried all suggestions but still no flashing LED on the dash. I do have sparks at the plugs, but no juice to the fuel pump, but it does work with a direct feed, the injectors do not seem to be clicking when cranking either. This does sound like some kind of immobilizer problem. I seem to remember that a Rover garage can put the ECU, MFU immobilizer unit and the remote "plipper" units onto a computer and set them up to work together. Is this actually the case? At least you have beeps and an LED flashing in some sort of order Cat 7! Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven
  19. I've got to the stage of connecting all the electrics and battery up, prior to first starting the engine, problem is, I don't have any LED showing to tell me that the immobilizer is active. I've clicked the plipper a million times with the ignition on and off, but I still can't get recognition fromt the MFU. Out of interest, I have sparks from the plugs, but no fuel pump activation. Does the immobilizer leave the ignition active but cut the fuel pump circuit, and what else does it cut out? All help gratefully received Paul Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven
  20. Well, I am looking for a plate for my new Seven, so could be interested at around the £200 mark, but I guess that you're looking for substantially more? Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven

    wanted HPC

I rather thought you might need the cat and injection, but thought I would mention this one anyway. I think the price is his starting price, he could always reduce it, but if he starts too low, he can't put it up! I guess that a realistic price would be around 12000 ukp, what do you think?

    wanted HPC

Francois, One of the members of the Som & Wessex area is selling his Vauxhall HPC. From memory it is something like a '92 car, but on carbs, non Q, I believe, with a dry sump and a straight cut close ratio box. Yellow, with cycle wings. I think he mentioned a price around 13,500 ukp. If this is of interest let me know and I'll pass his phone number on to you as he is not on line. Paul Som & Wessex AO.
  23. Geof, if you've now got a 6 speed box, with a 1:1 6th gear, don't you need a 3.6 diff, otherwise your little darling will be reving her nuts off and getting nowhere fast! Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven
  24. Thanks Dave, but I've already got one of those, I thought it would be better to try and find one of the "fatter" ones in view of the K series well known propensity to overheat Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21-Now sold, back in the fold with my new 1600K Seven
  25. I'm after a fairly recent K series radiator. If any of you have upgraded to an ali. one and want to sell off your old one, or if anyone has a spare ali. rad. to sell I would be most gratefull. With or without fan and hoses, I'm not too bothered.
