  1. If the rack is fairly new, the little cups may still be OK, if you can be bothered Chris, perhaps you could take off the track rods and have a quick look. There are a couple of little springs behind the cups too which could be useful.
  2. On either end of the Caterham branded ali. steering rack are two little nylon cups that allow the ball end of the track rod end to sit snugly. One of mine is now cracked, probably due to careless parking, but they do not seem to be available from Caterham parts dept. and I was given the impression that the manufacturer [Titan?] was not very helpfull in supplying parts direct. Can anyone tell me where I can go to buy a new pair of these ASAP please?
  3. Well done Jerry, they look as if they should do the job, in fact they would probably work at all corners, unless the engine is pushing out over 175 bhp I'm not sure that the wider tyres are really necesary anyway. Arnie was going to contribute somehting about the geometry differences with the 16" wheels, but lost it in his computer, but he may back back with some info some time. i just have to wear out the AO32 Yokos that I've currently got mounted on my 16" rims, then may very well go for those AO48 195s that you found.
  4. Yes they are still available Peter and Chris If they get sold close to £200, I will happily donate a tenner to NtL.
  5. I had a chance to look last night, and they do seem to be beige [straw] coloured Mathew, I can only hope that this colour is extreamly rare and therefore they are worth hundreds or pounds 😬 but if not, I'm sure you'll let me know their true worth
  6. I don't know offhand Mathew, but when I get home later, I'll have a look. They came off an Astra GTE in standard form though, if that's any help.
  7. I've still got them if any of it is useful to someone. Now with a working Seven, practically ready for SVA.
  8. I'm starting a garage clearout and have decided that I will no longer have a use for the following items:- 2 x Bosch coils, as supplied by Caterham, 1 brand new and unused - £50 + P&P 1 used but in perfect working - £20 + P&P 2 x Bosch Motronic ECUs supplied with standard Vx Caterham engines using fuel injection £50 each + P&P Standard Vx fuel injection plenum and inlet manifold complete with injectors etc - £50 +P&P Email or call on 01823 421748 to make an offer or for further info.
  9. I've never used CR500 tyres Bernard, but I think that you should think about dropping your pressures down to around 16 - 18 psi [if you haven't already?] to see if you have an improvement. As an experiment, I dropped the pressures in my Avon CR28 Sport, on 13" wheels, right down to 12psi at a hillclimb a few yeaars ago and it made no discernable difference, though I was worried that I would be cornering on the rims. The Sevens are so light that the tyre will virtually keep inflated with no air in!
  10. Nice one Jerry, that's a good bit of research. All we need now is a place where we can buy these tyres at a reasonable price, otherwise it will be an expensive experiment, as you say. I suspect that a 195 would fit the 7" rim quite easily, a 185 would be very difficult, but possible and anything smaller probably wouldn't get on the rim at all. It doesn't seem that anyone has actually used this combination yet though. I've currently got some 205/50/16 Yoko 032's on the rims, and can confirm that the 50 section will fit under the wheel arches of a 21, but on a Seven, I can only say that they look good, but are VERY tight under the front cycle wings, although I may be using the smaller wings, which would bring its' own problems 😳 Jack, nice to hear from you, I understand that Emilly was involved in a little Anglo/French misundertanding recently. How are things now? BTW, have you had any luck repairing my printed circuit board yet? Now with a working Seven, practically ready for SVA.
  11. I can't believe that with all the accumalated knowledge on BC there isn't someone who doesn't have something useful to recomend on the matter - apart of course form telling me to throw the 16" rims into the bin
  12. It has been pretty well documented here that whilst the 16" HPC five spoke wheels with 205/45/16 tyres, look good, they do nothing for the handling of the car. Now I know that with a more or less standard Seven on smaller wheels, it is better not to go wider than 185 or at max.195 on the front, so I can't help wondering why one cannot put 195 tyres onto 16" rims for the front, therefore keeping good looking wheels & better ground clearance without compromising the handling and causing tramlining etc? Has anybody done this yet, or got any thoughts on it? Now with a working Seven, practically ready for SVA.
  13. Hmm, yes, Thank you very much..............................
  14. OK, offers around £200 for five then?
  15. If no one wants these superb tyres I might have to end up using them myself................
  16. These brand new and unused [still with Avon labels attached] tyres are surplus to requirments. I have 5 tyres and would like to sell all of them as a job lot. Although I am open to offers for them, I would like to get around £275:00 but I suppose that an offer in the £250 region is more realistic! Either email me through this site or give me a ring on 01823 421748. [Taunton] Paul Jacobs [som. & Wessex AO] Edited by - Paul Jacobs on 12 Oct 2003 20:10:40
  17. Nick, in the days when I had crossflows, I did indeed have such a thing. I haven't got a clue where it is in my garage at the moment, but I'll try and get some time to have a search through all my junk and turn it up. When I find it I'll post again here. I think I also had a bit of kit to get rid of the points too. It should all be together somewhere
  18. That exact thought had recently crossed my mind - thanks Jack.
  19. I suppose it's too much to hope that anyone has a spare or unwanted Emerald unit for an EU2 K series with a standard 1600 map is it? Failing that, if someone has a standard MEMS unit with matching immobilizer and plippers, that they want to pass on to a new home for reasonable money, I would most gratefull. Give me a ring on 01823 421748 or email of course. Many thanks. Paul
  20. I'm having big problems getting my car running with the standard MEMS unit, so does anyone have a fairly recentmodern Emerald ECU that they want to dispose of? Give me a ring on 01823 421748 if you have one or know of one . many thanks. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off! NOT..... Anyone got a spare Emerald ECU?
  21. Better speedo broke than piston! Sorry, just feeling frivolous tonight. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off! NOT..... Anyone got a spare Emerald ECU?
  22. Phew, that's lucky, for one second I thought you meant to write half not Falf! BTW, what is a Falf door? Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  23. I'm pleased that it was nothing serious then Pete. Sadly mine isn't going to be so easy. I have verified that my fuel pump is working by taking a direct feed to it, but the enigne still won't make the right noises. back to the drawing board then................. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  24. Well, that's really funny [as in a peculiar coincidence] I'm pretty well in the same boat. I've been struggling to find the reason that I can't power up the fuel pump and possibly the injectors too. I've changed the ECU & immobiliser because I thought that was the trouble, [70ukp from a local breaker Arnie], but I'm still no further forward. Please someone help Pete, then perhaps i'll find the same problem and we can get two Sevens onto the road. Back in the fold with my new Black/Ali. 1600K Seven reg'n A7 YEP, looking good for spring take off!
  25. I've done this mod on a couple of my past cars with no probs. The first one was a Vx engined Seven, I chopped a bit off the tank and dropped the standard battery down the side, the second one was on my old 21, Vx powered of course. You will only need one long positive cable, because you earth it through the chassis, so I hope you haven't bought a great length of neg. cable because that stuff isn't cheap. I can confirm that with a Vx engine it really does make a discernable difference, better traction off the line and the nose gets in quicker too. I ended up using a little lawn tractor battery last time, with a 245bhp dry sump engine and never had a moments bother with voltage drop. Go for it........
