  1. The 21 has actually been out of production for a good couple of years now. Sadly there were too many other more practical fully bodied cars, for some reason it seemed that people were asking for wind down windows, room for a couple of bulky backsides, ease of entry, a cigar lighter, cupholders, etc. There were even rumours that the odd person requested ICE [and that's not for their gin and tonic either]. I think there were more than 39 made, Chris Rees' book claimed 49, but including prototypes and odd race cars, the feelings are that more like 60 odd were made. It is just such a pretty car, I still have strangers come up to mine in the street or car park and drool all over it - it's just so messy, I can well understand why people don't want them. A big design fault was not building in a body washer system............... Oh yes, it's a shame that they didn't put a real engine in it when it reached production, but by that time the Vauxhall engine was already out of production. 2. Dave, I think that we did talk, I'd forgotten - sorry. It sounds as if I'll be OK for one, so if Simon is interested, let him have it. On another subject, if your car is up and running around the middle of Sept. [15th] I'm organising another Exmoor Cream Tea run, if you can make it. Different route, taking in both south and north coasts, but ending in the same place as last year. Maybe Geof would be up for it too? Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  3. Thanks Keith, I'm fixed up now, also I think yours may be the older style of flat heater, I don't think the revised fresh air heater came in until slightly later. Many thanks for the offer though. Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  4. If anyone has a fairly recent fresh air heater, that is surplus to requirments, I would be most interested in buying it. Call me on 01823 421 748 anytime.
  5. If you want a standard set up, I could have just what you want. I'll give you a ring. Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  6. Does anybody have a spare fresh air heater that they would like to sell? I think I may be going soft in my old age! Woops, sorry, wasn't concentrating, I'll also post on Wanted Edited by - Paul Jacobs on 14 Aug 2002 19:09:26
  7. Mole, if you want to have a look at another SV to see what gets lit up and what doesn't, why not contact Dave Parsons who also lives in Taunton, I'm sure that he'd be only to pleased if you made contact. Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  8. Mike, What a bummer. Have you pressed the little cutout switch on the bulkhead, stops fuel in the event of an accident I think. Failing that it could be an electical problem, dry contact, or a prob. with the immobilizer or the wiring loom connections. I had the same symtoms with my loom when the car was new, it had to go back to Caterham to be sorted in the end. It meant having to leave it at home and take the tintop to Le Mans then. Best of luck. 9. Useful to know, I can also recomend Tipton Garage in Ottery-St-Mary [Devon] as being excellent with their rolling road, Stephen Miles used to work for Janspeed in Salsbury before they went out of business, soon after he left to join his father, Richard, at Tipton, he did an excellent mapping job on my Vx engine last autumn and can set up a carb engine with his eyes shut. If anybody in Somerset wants work done on their cars, MB Garage services in Taunton is building up an excellent reputation too. He now services most of the Sevens in the area, as well as having a couple of Elises and other exotica in from time to time. [He had a Ferrari in last week]. He is also very skilled in building up cars from kits, he's got one in at the moment and is doing an excellent job. His prices are reasonable, he takes pride in his work and he is an enthusiast - what more could one ask for? His phone number is 01823 353 945, and speak to Mark, the boss. 10. The Renault 4 filter has always been OK for me, either a genuine Renault one, from a dealer, or more latterly, one from Halfords. They are very short, so no danger of them grounding out and holeing under heavey braking. I've never checked the threads on my car, but have never had a problem [so far]. 11. Mmm, nice system Luke, smart car too. I was particularly impressed with your attention to detail in getting exactly the right body colour to match with the seat belts. What sort of price did you pay for the new system? Is lack of a cat. going to be a prob. at MoT time, or will you just put the old system back on? Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  12. Is an unstarted 1600K DD Kit any good to you? Bought in Dec 01, I only wnat £13,500 for the complete car, [except exhaust]. There is a garage locally who will build it too for around £500 or thereabouts, if you want it ready to roll. Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
  13. I have emailed you direct with these details Nick, but it is a genuine kit and a genuine offer.
  14. Hmm, Nick, shame you couldn't go to £13,000 for an unstarted kit. 1600K, 5 speed box, DD chassis, HiViz weather, adjustable seats, cycle wings, [not painted though]. If you could be interested get back to me.
  15. Hey, look guys, these engines are now supposed to be rarer than hens teeth, you wouldn't think it looking at this lot would you - and what about prices, c'mon, what are they actually worth???
  16. Andy, What is the format of the day and where is it being held? Do Caterham actually provide cars for people to abuse too?
  17. Yes, just what is such an engine worth, I would take a guess that with carbs and all ancillaries etc you really wouldn't want less than 1000:00gbp for it, right? Last year I bought an engine from an early GTE for £400, had it reconditioned throughout, with a pair of piper cams etc, which cost me around 800:00gbp, and managed to buy a complete Alpha-Weber ECU & TB setup, s/h, complete with engine wiring loom for £800, Total - 2000:00GBP!!! This is the engine which I will put in the 21 if I can sell my SBD dry sumped unit, so I would suggest that 1000:00 GBP, if acceptable is a damm good price. What are the general thoughts?
  18. How does a dry sumped 245 bhp SBD Vx engine sound. Still in the car, so can be heard running and driven on the road, It cost me around 10k to have built by SBD, I'm after around 6k, complete with all ancillaries [except alternator], including all dry sump equipment, TB's engine wiring loom ECU etc etc, Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]

    Pagids

Hmm, very interesting Yankee, I had to read it three times, try and work out what it was all about? Back to Pagids, Graham, I fitted some factory supplied Pagids at the end of last summer [or rather the fronts were from Caterham, whilst the rears for the XR4i caliper, were sourced elsewhere] and have to say that they certainly do work from cold, and show more resistance to fading than the previous Cr*p green stuff pads that I had fitted. I've put on some bigger discs too, although kept the same AP caliper, and I'm now finding that the fronts show a tendancy to lock up under hard braking, although, like you say, I wonder if that's just me. I feel that I've got to be a lot more sensitive with the pedal effort now, so you actually may find that you get a similar response as with your current Mintex, and they are VERY expensive too. So really, I'm not giving you a definitive answer..... Are you thinking of visiting Castle Combe this Saturday for the CCC Action day?
  20. Yes, I did wonder why they would use, what, at first sight, looked like an inferior attachment for the spring/damper assembly?
  21. No, No, No. See my reply on your other For Sale posting.
  22. This is getting really complicated, let's simplify it and say that for the heater, hood sticks, rear springs, exhaust sytem [primaries, secondaries and silencer] how does 250ukp sound? BTW the 21 owners doesn't want wide track suspension, he just thinks that he does. The 21 already has a wider chassis, so if wide track suspension is fitted it'll stick 2" either side out of the wheel arches - silly or what? [Not a lot of people know that!] [or want to.....]
  23. Dave, one of the guys on the 21's list is in need of a front corner for his 21, after his current upper wishbone parted company with itself. I'll point him in your direction.
  24. OK Dave, that's fine, I could also use the springs, cost it all out and let me know, I'll take a job lot, if the price is right.
  25. Hoopy, I'd be most interested in the heater, exhaust and the roof bars. What sort of price would you want for the three items together?
