  1. Ah yes, those little hidden extras................................
  2. I was thinking the same as Giles. If they are, in fact, inertia reel belts, then I could use a couple for another project I am working on, but as my budget is tight, I don't think I could offer more than £10 for the pair, plus postage of course. BM me if that is enough. Paul.
  3. Interesting info. Roger, thank you. I will do some more research on this. Btw, I don't suppose you would be interested in an unpainted bonnet with a cutout for an over the top exhaust system would you? I'm unlikely to ever need it again, and there aren't many VX Sevens around now. £25 if it is of interest?
  4. Does anyone have a Vauxhall 16v nose cone they want to sell? Good condition or unused preferred, but any condition considered, as it will have to be painted. BM me if you have such an item, but please note that, as far as I am aware, the Vauxhall engined cars have a slightly different nose to bonnet size than any other car. Paul. PS. No I haven't had a solid object interaction, thankfully, but the present one is a little tatty and I want to smarten the car up.
  5. Thanks both. It is the VX XE Roger.
  6. And.....whilst on Webbers with the acknowledged experts to hand, I find with my HPC on 45s, it is very difficult to get a consistant idle, although I have only adjusted the idle stop screw so far. It gently slows down until it stops, should I do as suggested and clean the idle jets please? I also get a little spitting back from time to time as well.
  7. For those of you within driving distance of Bristol, Williams Automobiles, who have recently been appointed new dealers for Caterham Cars, as well as being main dealers for Lotus and Morgan, have invited all Caterham or prospective Caterham owners to an open day on Saturday 24th October 2015 at their showroom near Chipping Sodbury. See their website for more info: www.williamsautomobiles.com If you think you would like to come, they will be putting an all day BBQ, and other food, so I'm sure they would appreciate an idea of numbers, so please email the lovely Elles on: elles@williamsautomobiles.com and let her know your numbers. It should be a good day, for which they are already renowned.
  8. Driving through Blue Anchor [near Minehead] this afternoon, I couldn't help but admire the very smart Duratec Seven, BRG with yellow nose band and bonnet stripe, parked right outside the Driftwood cafe. Sadly, we were on our way to see our daughter in Minehead, so couldn't stop and share a cup of tea, how about a breakfast in East Dorset sometime soon?
  9. If 2GBR doesn't have them I could be interested in the whole lot, depending on the price. Do BM me if still available. Ta.
  10. My newly aquired HPC with a Vx 20XE only has a single way heater valve fitted, whilst I know that all later engined cars have a 2 way divert valve, so that when the heater is off, the water will still be sent back to the back of the engine. I've had a look at another Vx engine [thanks Rhett], which is the same, but can't believe that closing the heater is designed to stop the through flow of water to the back of the head/block. Can anyone confirm that this is correct and the engine won't suffer from not having water going through it when the heater is turned off please?
  11. I've got a modified BH Geartec box on the back of my 2.3 Duratec which rattles and chatters on the overun between 3000 and 2000, do Steve Perks' boxes do the same?
  12. I can testify to the shock value when being passed by a noisy Seven. Way back when, it must have been around 1966-67, driving an Austin A30, I was dawdling along in a queue of cars on a 3 lane road, not paying too much attention and with my window down, when a series 3 Seven came blasting past us all, at full chat, in the middle lane. I hadn't checked my mirror and wasn't expecting it, and I nearly jumped out of my skin - literally. I remember it to this day. So these days, even though I have gone to quieter silencers coz I'm older, I still remember the shock I got and assume others who aren't paying attention will also be more than a little surprised when I go past.
  13. Come on Mr P, don't get us all excited without giving us a little more info. like what engine and is it side or rear exit and do you use frozen or fresh peas.
  14. As chance would have it, whilst searching for something else, I came across a spare, early chromed Midget handbrake [as you do] which I would sell if it's any use. Let me have an email address and I'll send a couple of pictures.
  15. David beat me to it, I have done the same on two previous Sevens, one a live axle and the other DD, both of which I used for autotesting back in the day. For the first one I used a Morgan flyoff, which was great but it was heavy as hell, and the second, like David, I used an MG Midget, and taped the button down. They fit on the passenger side, just in front of the gearlever, and bolt onto chassis members, both longitudenal and the cross mount, the cable is then shortened to fit, works a treat. The point is, it doesn't have to be fitted on top of the tunnel, where it can get in the way of your elbow and is harder to get at for that bit of tailout action.
  16. "WE COULD IF REQUIRED GET THE CAR UP AND RUNNING FOR £495" Ha, Ha, Ha. I agree the price is a tad high, but a good opportunity to fit a 2l. Blacktop Zetec, although that would cost around £3000 - £4000, so how much should it sell for? £4k - £5k?
  17. Good advice Paul, many thanks. I have bought a foam baffle from Caterham as it happens, but thanks for the reminder to check the pickup for a groove. Back in the day when I last ran Vx 16v engines, I always had awful problems with oil surge, on left handers particularly, and thought, as you do, that the oil cooler will help with carrying a bit more oil. I am in the process of fitting a sump plug mounted temperature sender which will then be switchable with the water temerature, easy but informative, I can then decide whether to blank off the cooler or not. What is the optimum temperature that the should the oil run at?
  18. Thanks for the suggestion of the vacumm Paul. I did wonder about the sense in putting an air line onto it, even with low air pressure. I did wonder whether, as has been suggested, it wouldn't be better to leave the oil in, maybe run some really cheap oil through and drain again, to dilute it. The old stuff is pretty awful, as it hasn't been changed for years, so I wouldn't mind geting as much out as possible.
  19. I'm in the middle of doing an oil change on a Vx 16v which has been fitted with an oil cooler, and was wondering on the best way to get the oil out of it? I don't really want to take the oil cooler out, as it is fitted behind the radiator, so I thought that taking off the pipes at the filter and blowing some compressed air through may be the way to go, but it could get a bit messy........... Does anyone have any better ideas please?
  20. Thanks all, I've got a good choice now.
  21. Am I right in thinking that the slightly shorter spin off oil filter on the Vx 16v engines came off a Renault4 originally, if not, can someone identify it for me so I can go into Halfrauds a pick one up? Thanks.
  22. No, it's not a 'known' car, in spite of it having been in the area for 6 -7 years, and it is a genuine car which has now been sold at the asking price, thanks to BC and in particular to Dave for spotting it in the first place.
  23. Thanks David, but I don't think it is that, it's more of a loud rattly vibrating sort of noise on the overrun with a hot box and frankly, it doesn't sound good, but Chris at BGH, who recently modified it, seems to think it is fine and something that all Duratecs are likely to do. I rather think we've all heard that before?
  24. Hi Andy, I have an unused, still boxed 6 speed box, though not for a Sigma, as it came with a 2.3 Duratec CSR, which only needs an upgraded 5 speed box. Whether it will fit or not I don't know, but make some inquiries, and if it does do get back to me. I am looking to get about £2650 ono for it, plus P&P of course.
