  1. Cor ! what a place to drive !. The first taste was the Glenshee Road; the first time I drove this was in the Volvo with the caravan on tow, the second was in the motorhome. I got yarning with a bloke in an R8 at the top of the Glenshee Road, who, it turns ou, had a Caterham prior to the R8 so we talked on the same wavelength. Thereafter, drove down so many roads that just begged to be blatted. Dunno if I want to take the Caterham next time we're up there 'cos we just won't be able to Get On !! Bear in mind that in my part of the world, (Norfolk) the roads are a bit more Doris laden.
  2. Friday 10th August, heading up the A85 North of Callandar. You must have just gone through some road works that were being set up. What fantastic roads to drive on! If I had trailered the Caterham we would not have got very far 'cos I'd have to have had to keep unhooking it and re-driving the roads we had just passed over! We were heading South just past the Killin turn in our Motorhome, (you may have seen me wave). The roadworks' traffic lights were stuck on red for the Southbound traffic and cycling normally for the Northbound. About 15 minutes after we arrived at said lights, there was a queue out of sight behind us and batches of traffic coming through the "Roadworks". When the roadworks guys eventually sorted out the lights and we got through, there was no a single vehicle waiting at the other end !! arf arf Oh ! how we laughed !! Seriously though, I was completely nonchalent, being in the RV and relaxing.
  3. We're waiting,,,,,,,,, we can wait all day if neccessary,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  4. Bet you heard that coming. I saw it over Lowestoft the other day, heard that distinctive sound first.
  5. Rich I'm happy with what the CBS is up to. I'm not convinced that the car's had the a, Correct oil and b, changed when the service book says. Resetting the CBS is not as expensive as actually changing the oil with the Longlife (Castrol Edge etc) oil. . I'm not sure how I could tell if it was the original filter other than looking at if it looks 1 or 2 years old. (1 if it was changed, 2 if it's original.)
  6. Paul, That's quite likely true, but it would probably be Trading Standards who got the testing done. The car's only had one oil change (according to BMW) and it was at their authorised independant. Uncle, I'll give Don a call. The issue is, the car's done 10,000 miles since the oil was last changed. The car's Condition Based Service indicator expects the next change in 4700 miles. If the Indy didn't put the pukker oil in, then my car's engine is eating itself. If it wasn't currently the subject of a dispute, I'd change the oil and filter now. 15000 between changes is not in my nature. My Volvo and Caterham don't know what dirty oil looks like.
  7. The thought had more than crossed my mind. I think there's some shady practise going on.
  8. Is it feasible to have oil analysed to see if it is a particular spec ie BMW Longlife-04, or even if it's a particular make. ie Castrol Edge. ? I suspect I've got cheapo oil in my Bimmer.
  9. What he said. Hand clenched all the steel rivets in my lowered floors. No sweat.
  10. I specifically DID NOT BUY A BOAT. Made more sense to buy it today.
  11. Another good way would be to use an arc shaped top of the pedal so the cable only bends at a good sized radius. (No moving parts) Edited by - susser on 17 Oct 2009 22:46:47
  12. I've thought about a similar arrangement to yours Grant. The current design is very poor and looks like a prototype. This looks much more workmanlike.
  13. Oily I was thinking that max piston speed occurred at somewhere between TDC and before half stroke, ie when the rod was at 90 deg to the crank angle. Someone suggested that it had to be when crank angle was 90 or 180 deg. What's the right answer please ?

  15. Yes. I'm doing Brands GP and the forecast is just rain.
  16. Had me fooled when I test drove mine at Caterham. Mike Thodeson had got out to watch me back into the space, and I think he had a little giggle to himself when he saw me looking puzzled after I'd switched it off. He explained it afterwards. I don't find it an issue at all. Just a bit quirky.
  17. Agree; Not a fault, just a feature.

    Rich Don't think so.

    Reg No PWE 7

Peeps I know a bloke who's got PWE 7. He's thinking it could be handy for a sevener. He's asking £8500. I'll forward any Blatmails. Paul
  20. Matt The pads are not rubber. They are usually PTFE or similar. They reduce the friction between the pad and the piston and allow the pad to move more freely. The squeal is the disc ringing like a bell as a result of the pad sticking to the piston face, releasing and sliding then resticking, thus setting up a resonance. Copaslip works as well but not for as long. FWIW
  21. Oily thanks for that. Is it safe to assume that this cam is actually giving reduced performance, given that it's only got the cooking manifolds and head,. ?
  22. We've got a not-performing-as-well-as-it-should Triumph GT6; Checking the cam timing to make sure it wasn't a tooth out or so we got some wild numbers. (Original spec in brackets.) Summary;- Inlet duration 285 (256)deg, Ex duration 301(256) deg, overlap 74(36) deg. Cam timing is, In opens 34(18) btdc In closes 71 (58)abdc Ex opens 81 (58)bbdc Ex closes 40 (18)atdc Now I make that a pretty wild cam but the engine is running on the pair of standard Strombergs and the cast exhaust manifold. Is this a totally wrong cam for this engine, would you think.?
  23. When I marked the holes for the poppers just in front of the rear wing, I was very careful to make sure that I measured a number of times and drilled once,,,,and made a lovely elongated hole as the bit slid round the chassis tube. The hole is supposed to be clear of the tube, but the dimensions that I used didn't achieve it. *mad* *mad* If you added a mm or two to make the hole lower and further from the wing, but still within the tonneou fabric, you may benefit. Or you may not. I'm not responsible.
