  3. Hi Gary, Gary & Len at Freestyle have now cut down two prop noses for me to fit the Quaife 6 spd seq. box with speedo drive. I'm sure they would be happy and able to answer all your questions. I found the original lever a little long and not close enough to hand. Beware bending the lever which is hardened is difficult and it can snap! Gary is at the moment trying to obtain a shortened & pre-bent lever from Quaife for my box - speak to him if you want one too, he may be able to get two. Best of luck. Paul L7 FUN
  4. Guys, Sorry I was not able to get over to Swindon today. Pickup rearranged for next Friday. If there is any positive news I will post it here. Paul L7 FUN
  5. Marius, I believe that Arnie is right about these mag cam covers. As I am due to pick something up from Swindon on friday I will ask Eric P whilst I am there. Paul L7 FUN
  6. Tom, You will probably have to modify or replace your dedion tube which and remove or resite your rear ARB. I had to do both on my '95 dedion. The Info you need can be found with a search in Techtalk. Cheers, Paul L7 FUN
  7. Mark, I have a set bought new in May 2002 that you can have if you want. Email me on p7hpc@aol.com if you are interested. Paul L7 FUN

  11. 16vastra Tappet piston conversion £70-80, and shims around £95 - neither price includes VAT. (I may be selling a set of tappets modified this way by Swindon in two or three weeks). Paul L7 FUN
  12. I have a pair of black rear wings with off L7FUN with ss protectors & in reasonable condition. email me for photos if interested. Paul L7 FUN
  13. Gary, The nose on my prop required a little shortening (just a bit taken off the smooth cylindrical free end) because I ordered my gearbox with a speedo drive which prevented the prop nose from sliding fully home. Gary & Len at Freestyle know all about this problem. In about three weeks the prop is being exchanged & I will be able to send you pictures pre & post mod for comparison. Paul L7 FUN
  14. Hi cmilner, I have black front wings, black nosecone with dayglo yellow band & racetech 260mm wheel (no boss) all in reasonable condition to swap and am interested in the laptimer & beacon (is this a T100?). email me on p7hpc@aol.com if you are interested. Paul L7 FUN
  15. Gary, Mine is inset into the dash, I will email a pic tomorrow. I think that some form of indicator is essential as the changes are so quick (especially down) you will rapidly get lost without. Paul L7 FUN

  17. Hi John, See 'Vx head gasket failure?' in techtalk 7.7.03 Paul L7 FUN
  18. Stuart, I had a similar problem with my JPE spec Vx this year, although in my case hot running with coolant pressurisation and leakage from the exp tank only occurred after really hard driving at sustained high rpm (eg trackdays - not on the road). I started a thread asking about this three or four months ago - you may already have found it. Paul took one look in the engine bay at Oulton in early July & diagnosed likely HG failure. Others (Nick D in particular) had experienced similar problems with high spec & rpm Vxs subsequently cured by mods to the cooling circuit. My coolant was fine and compression down only a little in #3&4 (165 vs 170). I changed the exp tank cap, then the thermostat and then added a restrictor into the return from the manifold. After each little change (& careful rebleed) the problem disappeared completely. I thought that the problem had been solved until I returned to the track in late August and found myself rebleeding the engine at luncthime. The engine is now being rebuilt & I have been told (by Eric P) that the HG was not sealing 100% on cylinder#3. The problem was slight and the HG was hardly damaged - its clamping presumed lost due to overheating at some time. Fortunately no other damage, the head has been checked and needs only a light skim. If the problem appears to be getting slowly worse despite checking the simple manoevres described above - follow Paul's advice, I believe he is right. (Hi Paul ) PS When the car is rebuilt I will be adopting Nick D's cooling mod - just to be on the safe side!!! L7 FUN Edited by - Paul Gibb on 5 Oct 2003 23:00:42
  19. Arnie, I believe that the original QM drive plate was ceramatallic - described as 'a rally plate'. What are the advantages of the 5.5" clutch over the 7.25"? I think you have run both in the past. Can you run your small clutch/flywheel with a standard starter motor? Norman, I am planning cerametallic rather than organic. I am also hoping to have better luck than you have recently had when the clutch is installed!! Fingers crossed. Paul L7 FUN
  20. Yes, the dry sump bellhousing will be advertised later this year if the conversion goes ahead as planned. Paul L7 FUN
  21. The drive plate of my single plate 7.25" QM clutch has fractured due to heat & ?shock from seq box & cluthless upchange. I want to use a twin plate clutch in future, hopefully retaining the existing starter motor. 7.25" or 5.5"?, AP or QM? Honest feedback & opinions from any that have gone this route gratefully accepted. Many thanks, Paul L7 FUN
  22. I know several blatchatters have converted from Caterham 's bellhousing dry sump tank to an external tank setup (and I have already gratefully received advice from a couple). Is it as simple as it seems? Can I retain the oil pump (ie no blanking off of galleries etc)? Any pitfalls or problems experienced by others during this conversion? Many thanks for any info posted. Paul

    Vx thermostat

The standard 2.0 XE thermostat is 94 degree. Swindon sell an 82 degree thermostat for around £80. SRE 01793 531321 Paul L7 FUN
  24. My overheating & coolant spraying problems have been cured (temporarily at least) by a careful bleed (as described above), the insertion of a restrictor into the pipe connecting manifold to exp tank, and a new exp tank cap. Total cost £5.50!! Nick D's cooling mod in progress. Fingers toes etc remain crossed. Thanks all once again, over & out Paul L7 FUN
