  1. " I found AO21s `melted` on track after 3 quick laps but they are a wet tyre." How much power do you have? We used to use them in 100 mile races (145bhp x/f) and they usually lasted several meetings plus regular road use. I've used nothing else on 7s for 25 years.
  2. AO52s are not available in 13". Having got used to paying £50 for AO21s the price is the main thing putting me off buying a set.
  3. Anyone able to give an opinion on the Yokohama AO52 performance in wet conditions? I've been using AO21s for about 25 years (not the same set!) but will need to replace soon.
  4. R300SAT, we exchanged waves the first time.
  5. I'd get it checked out post haste. My x/f had a Viking funeral shortly after I noticed a strong smell of petrol. Deciding that I'd check it out when I got home (8 miles away) wasn't the best idea in hindsight.
  6. There's a thread devoted to this subject. I copied the link to favourites as my very friendly local garage had problems getting my k series through MOT last year. I had the car serviced 2 months later and asked them to investigate. No problem was found. https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/k-series-mot-lambda-limit
  7. "will let you know how I get on" Please do. My car is on 14" wheels with rather old AO21s. I'd rather not have to shell out for a set of 13" wheels to get some decent tyres.
  8. I've not heard of the Continental Premium Contact before. I've just looked at Continental UK website which only offered one tyre in 185/60/14 - All Season Contact which looks like a winter tyre. The comments on here about Uniroyals remind me of hotel reviews on Tripadvisor. People seem either to love them or hate them.
  9. As reported in many previous threads the 021R hasn't been E marked for a few years now due (if my memory serves me well) to changes in EU law. Idiotic in my opinion as they're a fantastic tyre but it is no longer legal to sell them for road use. You could try using non E marked 021Rs but likely to get grief at MOT time and invalidate your insurance to boot. I'll have to replace mine before long. Uniroyals and Toyo 888Rs seem to be the favoured tyres in 14".
  10. In those days you would have received an Assembly Guide. I was given one with my 1600cc x/f. It covered all engine configurations of the time - 1600 & 1700 x/f plus BDA.
  11. I'd get written official confirmation that there is such a rule before getting too excited. Also worth ascertaining how they assess engine power. If they were putting cars on a dyno every time they had a WOF (MOT) test I'd have heard about it. NZ used to have no end of bizarre regulations. Assuming it is genuine the people who dreamt this one up had no doubt never heard of a Caterham. I'd guess that it was aimed at locally built specials or beach buggies. They did introduce a law banning imports of LHD cars about 15 years ago. A friend over there has an LHD 911. He is forever being pulled over and told that the car is illegal. To which his answer is always the same - car exempt as registered before they passed the law.
  12. Steve, from your posts it seems that you are using Rainsport tyres at 185/60/14. Is that correct? Reason for asking is that I can only find Rainsports on web at 55 profile for 14". Rainexperts are available for profile 60 and above for 14". My AO21Rs (185/60/14) are several years years old so I'm looking for replacements. Having used AO21s for almost 25 years a change will be a culture shock. Due to wife's ill health the 7 doesn't hasn't had much use in the last couple of years so I can't justify the cost of switching to 13" wheels.

    X582***

I followed you for several miles while we were both avoiding the chaos on A21. I was in the red Polo.

Pattenden Lane, Marden, 2.40pm. Reg no stood out as almost identical to my 7.
  15. I was inside enjoying the beer festival. A predominately white 7 (R500CC?) drove past, driver wearing a white full face helmet.

Two 7s, one predominately white (GN57...?), the 2nd green (K800 RUM?) travelling towards Yalding around 11 this morning. I was cycling in the opposite direction.
  17. That's about the right time so it must have been you.
  18. One white with stripes, one black, as viewed from mirrors. You were no doubt cursing slow traffic for a couple of miles, as I was the car in front of me. By going straight on you avoided the broken down bus on the road to Marden.
  19. Changed the fob battery and after stabbing at the unlock button 4 times we're back in business. Thanks for the advice chaps. I've never had a car with an immobiliser previously so hadn't considered that as a possible cause.
  20. With key in position 1 Immobiliser light is flashing. In position 2 the red light is continuously on. I've just spotted in the owners handbook where it says that the system cannot be disarmed if the handset battery fails. I'll try a new battery. Thanks for the advice.
  21. My 2002 K series has developed a (to me) bizarre problem. It starts immediately but dies within a few seconds. There is a strong smell of petrol immediately after it shuts down. The fuel pump appears to be working and I have tried disconnecting the IACV to no avail. Has anyone experienced similar problems? This is the 1st problem I have had with the car in 18 months of ownership but after 20 years of Xflow ownership the electronics etc are a complete mystery to me. The car has the Supersport ECU. Can this be tested using standard diagnostic tools?

    C7 XSL?

I waved as you passed through Marden this morning.
