  1. A new problem! I think it is unrelated but will post on this thread just in case... At motorway speeds the temp gauge is dropping to mid 40's (indicated). Rises when used hard, or at lower speeds. I guess the thermostat has failed / stuck open? Any danger in running at these temps for prolonged periods of time?
  2. SM25T & Paul. Belt is lose, can twist 110°ish. May wait till at brothers and see if he has more tools. Thanks all
  3. We've had a look and are a little nervous to tackle with limited tools and cramped access (apollo tank and plumbing) . Can I ask is the small bolt head on the bottom slide tension adjuster arm just a restrictor or the tensioner? Not the main bolt - the small bolt head 5-7mm
  4. JK cidre has already been tested, don't you worry.
  5. Yes JK, on with with ignition / off when this. "modern 7": JK I need a definition :) what's does 14 yes old sit on the Caterham modern / ancient scale?
  6. Car too hot to start poking things at the mo' (parked in one donkey town (suspect they couldn't afford a horse)) with no shelter or off road parking. To answer what I can : k series, no noise. Starts, revs, pulls, stops and cruises as normal. Is the red warning light at bottom right of rev counter next to indicator warning. Thanks for the replies so far!
  7. The red warning light is flickering when the car is going over 70. Possibly load related as flickers slightly sooner up hill / later down. Alternator belt replaced week before leaving UK. Could it be a tension adjustment issue? Still have 440km to do, so am going to continue but keep speed low enough to keep light off. Is that safe? Will check back here at next stop for your input. Thanks
  8. Hi JK.. Yes, new earth strap and a clean up of the earth point sorted it. Thanks to for the help & info
  9. GJT I know, sounds The idea is it saves fuel, as the engine is not driving an hydraulic assist pump. The steering wheel is attached to a torque sensor, and the ECU decides - based on how much you turn the steering wheel, road speed, and a raft of other sensor inputs - how far to turn the front wheels and in which direction. Here's hoping Microsoft didn't write the code
  10. Just to (hopefully!) close this off, the car has been to a Kia main dealer and they conceded the car dud not feel right. They plugged the laptop in to the steering ECU and said it held a couple of old error codes. They've deleted those and done a restart to standard parameters - in effect a CTRL-ALT-DEL and reboot of the steering. This has made a noticeable difference. The car is still not really my cup of tea, but at least the steering wheels point in a predicable direction now. Just need SWMBO to gain confidence in it again.
  11. On Windows, Paint (start-> all programs -> accessories -> paint) will resize .BMP, .JPEG simply enough. You can resize by percentage. Make sure you have "maintain aspect ratio" ticked on the popup dialog box.
  12. Thanks for the replies so far gents. I'm away from the car until the weekend, so will check then
  13. All other lights are OK. The holder is, I think, non standard Caterham and appears to be sealed, so doing your suggested checks may have to be "destructive".
  14. My O/S side indicator has packed in. Bulb is fine, crossed checked with N/S holder. Checked with multimeter and +ve supply is good. How can I check the -ve? Where does the other end of the -ve wire connect to?
  15. POBC: This has moved on somewhat. I've now driven the car and it's not right. Our local garage (back street proper garage that knows how to fix things) has driven it and says it is wrong. The dealer we bought from has driven it and says there's nothing wrong and therefore nothing to fix. They have booked it in to the local Kia dealer for an "independent" "expert" opinion to "settle" it, but this is two weeks away, and patience is not my strong suit. I think SWMBO would keep the car if it was repaired, but the shine of getting a new car is quickly wearing off and we are getting close to the point were we would like to hand it back and get a refund. As I see it our options are: Pay for a four wheel alignment check to gain written evidence to back us up (but the issue may be other mechanical / electrical)Pay RAC / IAEA type engineer / A N Other to do a road worthiness report.A late night visit involving four large chaps with baseball bats.Any other avenues I could explore?
  16. SWMBO has just bought a 62 plate kia soul. She is not happy with it as she says it is over correcting out of a corner. So turn right at a junction and let the steering wheel slide and it returns past centre and veers a little left. What could be the cause?
  17. JK, DVA removed my engine mount and blanked as an aside whilst fettling an upgrade. No sealant, Just a piece of ally or "robust" plastic screwed / bolted / riveted in place
  18. JK, I have a version of the AG... mine says: It then moves on to DeDion ear assembly and I can't find another mention of the damper.
  19. Can someone confirm the torque setting for the lower damper bolt (that fastens to DeDion)? Should the bolts at either end of the rear damper go in clean & dry or copasliped and/or thread locked?
  20. - You could say the bobbins were a load of old bobbins (Explanation for Southern folk what needs it)
