  1. Gary I have heard that the old style box doesn't like 2 gear changes in one. It works better if the clutch is lifted between gears. Also the mechanism should be allowed to return the lever and you do need to be fairly agressive with it. Nick
  2. I had a similar problem with mine, air kept getting into the system and collecting in the radiator. I fitted a restrictor in the small hose to the top of the expansion tank and the problem stopped. It was an item that Caterham used to fit to the Vauxhall race cars, no longer available now though. All you need is a piece of round ali or plastic just a bit bigger than the internal diameter of the pipe (about 8mm I think should do), 10mm long and with a 1mm hole through it. It needs to be a tight fit in the pipe. It restricts the flow enough to stop aeration in the header tank that then gets drawn through the rest of the system and collects in the radiator. Worth a try before going to any more serious actions.
  3. Tweeky You could also cut the mirror support down so you look under the brake light. Nick
  4. Officially if it's not displayed it's not valid. They are sticky on both sides so should be stuck to the outside of an aeroscreen. I like the idea of the sticky clear film though 😬

  14. Steff Cutting the carrier off is as simple as that although you need to be careful with the wires for the number plate light as these run through the tube (well they did on mine ). Some just used some rubber covers to hide the end of the tubes and attach the number plate and light to the bodywork. Others make up a mount for the number plate and light that fits into the stubs. If you are after wheels/tires for the track I would suggest using 13" for these and keep your 14" wheels for the road, maybe with other tires. It depends how and when you want to drive the car, many use the 48's all year round. Again it all comes down to personal preference. Cheers Nick

  23. The 6-speed box was (I think) developed mainly to go with the 1.4 K-series as this didn't have that much torque. So it depends which engine your friend is looking at as to whether it is best to choose a 5-speed or 6-speed. It also depends on your style of driving and what you intend to do with the car. My car was originally a 1.4ss and the 6-speed worked really well as it kept the engine revving where it should be, at the top 😬
