  1. Paul, might be a bit late now but... here any use? Nick
  2. I intermittantly have difficulty accessing my talktalk email - it's been happening today repeatedly. Only accessed it twice out of around 20 attempts with mailwasher in the past 4 hours Tried the 'direct' route via the 'access your webmail' on "my talktalk" and that failed twice too. Just tried again as i type this.... clicked login.... waiting..... 3 minutes.... 5 minutes... "Remote mail server not responding" ☹️ Incidentally, my father intermitantly has diffulcites with access to their server too... 'tinternet has been working fine
  3. Mike, is that mine that you cannot see? can someone confirm they're there, or have i screwed up!
  4. well, the thread has moved on a bit now but as promised: here the first two are the 175/55 R13 CR500 with Caterham carbon wings and Caterham 13" wingstays and they look silly. the last pic are the same wings with cut and shut wingstays - not the holy grail of snug fitting wings by any means and the mis matched radius is showing but in the flesh it's not a bad compromise. quote: Sikaflex is a tidier solution but you need loads of goo to guarantee they stay stuck. God help you if you ever want to get the wings off again... ...well it's not too bad removing them - pretty quick with a carefully wielded stanley knife, though getting the remaining bits off the inside of the wings is a bit faffy. Nick
  5. Mike, Have had exactly the same dilemma as you. I decided to go down the route of a cut and shut on the standard, 13inch, wingstays. I kept the standard carbon wings with their deep side lips so (as you say) that meant that the wingstays couldn't be shortened right upto the tyre because the wheel wouldn't go on or off. Since the wing is the wrong radius anyhow to be that close to the tyre I wouldnt want it any closer. this means i've got a compromise! but i'm happy with it - I can find a before and after pic i think, blatmail me if you'd like them. edited to say, if you actually find any that fit the 'little' CR500s please let me know 😬 Edited by - naddy on 31 Jan 2007 00:44:25
  6. "This whole thought process may seem like madness to many" 😬 😬 😬 err, yes. however, if you are keen to get rid of the engine, that red powder coating would match my car far better one thing though, not needing 244bhp and not wishing to rev to 8000rpm sound like a reasonable reason to leave alone IYSWIM... nick

  8. Thanks again everyone Bob... quote "They're cr@p. I had std 13/14 wingstays and got fed up with them looking like raised eyebrows so I ordered the VX race wings stays, they were better with 185/60/13 Yokos but when I fitted the Avons they looked cr@p again." .....I can see we're on the same wavelength!! I suspected the race stays would look good with 60 profile Yoko tyres (which I've been using) but feared they wouldnt be good enough with the 55 profile Avons (which I just fitted). Thanks for the blunt opinion - you have mail... Ferrino... Nothing at all wrong with the cut'n'shut approach, except I can't weld! Or powdercoat! and I get scared when it comes to chopping up bits of Seven 😳 However, you're probably right... I'm off to Freestyle in a couple of weeks for some suspension work, I wonder if they'd be up for it?? Have to give 'em a call...
  9. After searching the archive, the so called 'vauxhall race stays' with wings for 13/14" wheels are going to offer the closest fit.... I think! phoned Caterham today to check how much lower this setup would be than my current standard wingstays & CF arches (for 13/14" rims) - and erm, they didn't know... At £90+vat this matters!! 1) Can anybody out there tell me how much lower the race wingstays are than the ones usually used for 13" wheels?? 2) are there any alternatives (other than a 'cut & shut' approach on my current wings)

    - money/wallet in jeans pocket to make the the harness that bit harder to fasten after you carefully spent time adjusting it to fit snugly with nothing in your pockets. - keys have to be held by the passenger, or let loose in their footwell - mobile gets stuffed down fleece top, forgotten about, then falls out of the bottom when you climb out of the car and ejects its battery on contact with the floor. Alternatively, travel light...
  11. Thanks Chris, that's useful stuff. There was quite a speed differential in our group, but it's more the difference in driver ability that's the problem (my problem!). Don't think I've got my head around just how fast these cars can be through bends in skilled hands - so one can be observant when it comes to being aware that there's a car behind, but frankly ignorant about how much quicker they could be through a corner if you weren't there. doh. As you say, it's not just about straight line speed. A guy waving a flag might have got the point across sooner, rather than during my post-trackday pondering.... this is all seeming obvious with hindsight... quote: "The only way to get track experience is to do more! and enjoy it!" ta! I needed that, I was starting to get depressed! I could add to the quote... 'get some instruction'!! Regards Nick
  12. I'd second that Geoff. I'm not experienced on track, felt I was checking my mirrors, didn't do a very good job sometimes and it would have helped to have had some marshalling of that sort. Is that what one would expect on a trackday?? (blue flags i mean, not me getting in the way (ref. chitchat topic)) still 😳
  13. The threaded collar on the solid pipe at the engine end has split, so I have a leak. I considered having a new 'end' soldered (or whatever) on, but as a whole new pipe was only £11 and will have a new collar it seemed reasonable..... untill I got the car over an inspection pit today and the mechanic started to worry about having to remove the gearbox! So maybe a flexible hose??? Suitable for injection system I guess?
  14. How easy is it to replace the solid (copper?) fuel pipe which runs from the back of the car to the engine bay inside the transmission tunell? Is it possible to get the thing past the gearbox??? or is this a "big job"? It's a k-series with a six speed box.
  15. Me too! Noises just as described. SL with 4k miles Reassuring to hear I'm not alone. Thanks again to the Blatchat massive. Surely Caterham should pay Blatchat - they'd surely have a completely overrun technical helpline if it wasn't for this place.....?
  16. I'm in a very similar situation Adrian, though with a 1.8ss engine. I suspect the opinion will be that 7 inch at the rear is overkill and could upset the balance also - but I don't consider myself sufficiently well informed! Keen to hear other opinions though....
  17. Could you forward me a copy too? Many Thanks.
