  1. Yellow tape on earth straps is a requirement as is an indication on the ignition swith as to which way is off. Battery isolation switch should also have an arrow indicating direction to turn off. Make sure battery terminals are covered with either plastic caps or tape, as I have been pulled up before for this. Each time you are scrutineered you come across a different item that the scrutineer will comment upon, some will over look some things that another would pick up on! Don't get stressed about it, but just make sure you have a roll of tank tape with you and a variety of coloured pvc tape! You can fix anything then!! Aves is right about driving on the road with race numbers, if you must, cover with a taped 'X', as suggested. Otherwise apply at the circuit. Gives a bad impression...people think that you are road-racing, which, as we all know, is illegal. Good luck Andrew
  2. If by 'widget' you are referring to a 'tea-strainer', then yes I do have one! Well it's like a tea strainer anyway...... As for clearance, it is difficult to assess but I believe you don't want to have it set too close to the sump in case of any risk of a blockage. Seem to recall that I had about 1 cm or so. Any help? Andrew
  3. The MR2 owners club has a website with technical advise pages, I seem to recall, and you may get a more specialised response from them, if it is a particular MR2 gremlin. Can't recall the address but try a search on Google or similar and I'm sure you will locate it. Andrew
  4. My car is still for sale at £12,000. See it, with full specification and a couple of photos here Andrew
  5. Thank you Marc7. Car is still available, but now with fresh 12months of MOT. Andrew
  6. Ooooooops! Double post! Andrew Edited by - andrew russell on 29 Apr 2002 15:32:37
  7. Use the 'search' facility as this subject has been discussed before. The Club gets a discount from the UK supplier if I recall. Andrew
  8. Champion C116 or Halfords HOF238 or TJ FB5300, or an equivalent. Any good Motor Factor will be able to cross reference. Originally fitted to a Renault 4 if I recall. Andrew
  9. Try a search in the archives for this info....Steve Mells souced some recently and had on offer to supply them. Don't know if he has any further surplus though. Andrew
  10. I should like to make one further correction to the FACTS in this thread. I suggested above that the road version of the Caterham Vauxhall was introduced in or about 1992. This is incorrect! I looked at the 'Gold Portfolio' book of Caterham Seven Road Tests last night. This book includes an Autocar roadtest of a road going Caterham Vauxhall HPC originally published in August 1990!!!! There is also a track test of a race car in Car and Car Conversions originally published in February 1991. QED Andrew
  11. Just popped into Dillons at lunch time and looked at Chris Rees book on the history of the Seven...... 'August 1990, Caterham show the 'Harlequin' Vauxhall Race car to the press.........' 'Magnus Laird wins the inaugural Caterham Vauxhall Challenge in 1991....' I presume that if race teams were to have to build and test their cars prior to the start of the 1991 season, then the chassis would have to have been made available prior to then, thus a 1990 Arch stamp is quite appropriate. My car is as I describe it above; q.e.d. Andrew. Edited by - andrew russell on 17 Apr 2002 14:26:21 Edited by - andrew russell on 17 Apr 2002 17:06:49
  12. I have not contradicted myself. The Caterham Vauxhall HPC road car was produced after the first season or two of the race car series, as far as I am aware. The first road HPC were announced in 1992, whilst the first race series for Vauxhall engined cars was in 1991. Andrew
  13. Arnie Thanks for your input. The car is not advertised as an HPC and I have never descibed it as such. The car is built on an early Vauxhall race car chassis and is exactly as described in the script above. That is why it is valued as it is and perhaps as I know the car better than you, I have a better idea as to its value. The car is NOT a conversion as you say and I should be obliged if you would speak to me before posting on a subject upon which you have no knowledge. The chassis was supplied to me by an authorised Caterham Service Agent who ran a fleet of Caterham Vauxhall race cars very successfully in the early 90's and this was a spare chassis that he had. It was built up for me as a road car and is in its original specification. It is still a super car, well specced and very well priced. Andrew
  14. Car now very unexpectedly available again.....same price, same bargain, despite the above comments. I believe that this is a very realistic valuation for a quick sale. I don't think you will find a better spec for the price! Call me on the numbers shown above to discuss. Andrew
  15. Rob, Nice talking to you the other day, just thought that I should let you know that mine has now been sold! Good luck in your hunt for a local one! Andrew
  16. Another way I have used before was to photocopy the numbers onto a white sheet of paper or card and then tape that with masking tape to bodywork. Fine unless it rains and you don't use up all of your numbers too quickly, and you get the white background as well! Andrew
  17. 200+bhp XE engined car, built by Authorised Service Agent for me in 1995, to my specification. One owner from then! Polished aluminium and Vauxhall Atlantis Blue. Cycle wings. Engine built by Bob Jones (B+J Motors) Omega pistons, Kent cams, 45 DCOE's, MBE 912V2 ignition, etc. 5 speed De Dion with LSD. Front AP4 pots and big discs. Up rated master cylinder. 13inch Superlites and good A021R's....3 virtually new. FIA bar and Petty strut. Full Hi-viz weather equipment, including boot cover and tonneau. Black leather adjustable seats. 6 and 4 point harnesses. Q/R Spa-Alpha wheel and Momo ali gear knob. Elliott rev counter. Cibie z180's. Flush alloy fuel filler. Car has been maintained to a high standard and is little used. Never raced! Couple of Club sprints/hillclimbs only. Never damaged! A real beauty! After Seven years of Seven ownership, it seems an apropriate time to change it! Based in Yorkshire but very convenient to A1(M) so access North and South no problem. Well worth the trip!! Can e mail photos if interested. Andrew Home: 01423.331104 Work: 01904.610886 Mobile: 07884.311330 'e'mail: amrussell@lineone.net £12,000.00
  18. Rich, I am based in Yorkshire and note your comments about the 'standard'look. However if you want a couple of pictures of my car, just e mail me. I have posted details on the 'For sale' section for anyone else who may be interested. I have priced the car realistically, I think, hoping for a quick sale. Buy now before the anticipated price rise, following Arnie sales promotion on the 18th May! Andrew
  19. I would have to say that the engine is great and offers no reliability problems over any other Seven, and in fact given the engine design, it is probably less stressed than any other make. I think the carbed engines would give you more flexibilty for any upgradeitis that you may suffer from in the future.... Have you seen my Vx engined car in Low Flying? Just a coincidence......it's for sale! Andrew
  20. You should be okay...I don't think PC logs onto this forum confused.gif Enjoy! Andrew Edited by - andrew russell on 11 Apr 2002 15:26:21
  21. Replacement guage fitted and all working fine. If you disconnect the 'sender' feed to the back of the guage(Black/green) and the unit still shows full, with the ignition on , this would appear to be the same problem as mine.....an internal fault. If you have the earlier VDO clocks and need to get one, I'd sit down before asking Caterham for a price!!! I was lucky and managed to source one through the wanted forum. If you are in no rush, I understand that VDO service department can be very helpful. Might be a cheaper option. Good luck. Andrew
  22. Steve, Guage in and working a treat! I noticed the lack of bulb before it all went together and luckily had one in stock. Thanks again. Andrew
  23. Steve, Box has arrived safely at my home...Hope the cheque has! Thanks again! Looks like I'll be getting a stiff neck tonight grovelling under the dash! Andrew
