  1. Good news Caterham are going to sort the battery out. Will consider a cut off switch and also an Optimate - thou as the car is proudly displayed on the drive I can't leave an Optimate on 24/7 Peace has been restored in my Caterham "life" - well just as soon as I fit my shift lights at any rate..... Makes up for the 4am start at work today 😬 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  2. Cor a Diesel Se7en - the miles you'd get from a tank...... Not sure about the exhaust smoke thou - you may look like you've been down a coal mine, if you applied lots of loud pedal! Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  3. 😬Thanks ! 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  4. Well I shall answer my own question: Yes the "other wires" are indeed the same colour (at least on my Sigma engined SV) So Black - Earth Green - Switched Live White with Black stipe - Rev signal I must confess I did the above with some trepidation, and was rather naughty in as much as I poked the shift light wires into the block that connects to the tacho. Having confimred that it all came on, I set it up and started the engine - happy days 😬 as it worked - as designed I've now disconnected everything whilst I work out the best way to splice it in and also work out the best place to punch a hole in the top of the dash (even less room up top as I have a full windscreen). I rather like the look of hiding the wire behind the windscreen stancion - does the whole windscreen need to come off or can I remove the right hand stancion and use a glamerous assistant (ie the Mrs) to support the windscreen whilst it's missing and I get me drill out ? 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  5. Any suppliers of the Optimate that are likely to give a few £££'s off to a club member? Neil_K: A most kind offer of the spare tray and a vice to "transition" it to a new shape - I shall consider my options and let you know if I may? 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  6. Thanks Mike, Are the other wires the same colour? If they are I'll have another "look" Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  7. I'd hoped CC would have helped SM25T Phoned aftersales, who said phone Caterham south and speak to Damian, who does all the authorisation work. Except Damian's not in all this week. And no one is authorising warranty work in his behalf. I wonder what would have happened if the previous owner of R500 MFF had phoned them with the same problem........ Crudders, been to Lessness who when given the voltages said the battery was toast, I guess I could go back and see Gordon again (having now purchased Jump Leads and De Ionised Water), but he said when he sold me the water yesterday that if it didn't make a difference it was time for a new one. 8. Tested it on the way out this morning: 12.46v Time for a new battery - I'll phone CC and see if they'll honour the original 4 year warranty mentioned or the 3 month one I got from them when I got the car (I've not had it since new) If I have to get one myself are there any suggestions for a brand? The local motor factors will get me what I want as long as I can get them a part number Cheers Mike
  9. Armed with the info from Martin as it was only 3 wires (out of 4) on his tacho that needed changing, having got home from a "recharge the battery" blat (another story), I thought I'd have a go and see if I could do it myself without the need of any assitance. I gingerly unscrewed the mounting from the tacho and lifted it out of the dash. Only 3 wires I thought, simples. Except that my tacho has, oh I'd put a rough guess of at least 10 wires going in... Eh thought I, that can't be right surely. The I've looked at Martins pictures - he's got a different tacho to mine I'll wait for the dummies guide that myothercarsa2cv (john) is going to kindly produce. They say a fool and his money are soon parted - if I even begin to think about snipping wires, I will have my wallet lightened by CC: for fixing all my "work" Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  10. Hmm 12.46 v with no load 9.6v when cranking/firing up the engine 14.2v when engine running The battery looked a little low on fluids on 3 or 4 of the cells, which I have topped up. Having come back from a 20 mile blat (mainly on the motorway / fast A roads) I hopped out an measured the charge on the battery just after engine switch off which was at 12.98v (you have to love the the accuracy of a DVM) Just waiting to see what it will measure later Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe

  12. Thanks John, SM25T SM25T: Battery earth lead = negative lead? (Sorry just checking) John: I've replied to your blatmail - thanks for the info 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  13. Folks Got in the Se7en yesterday and the starter motor just went click (rapdily) when I tried to start her. Having checked the head lights they didn't look too bright - bit like me I guess 😬 I popped over in the to the local motor factors explained what had happened and got some jump leads. Back home connected the jump leads to the X-Type and the 7 burst into life (in fact more quickly that with the onboard battery - guess that's down the the rather large 600Amp battery that Jag fitted to their X-Type Diesels) I've not used the 7 for 8 days (prior to yesterday), so I'm guessing the battery (a Banner I think) is not looking so clever. I've found the post with regards to checking the voltages (>13v is good
  14. 😬 Phew, glad I got that right then, with the number of three letter acronyms that exist the scope to be wrong could have been Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  15. It it's meant in the terms I think it is: DNF = Did Not Finish Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  16. Evening Richard I may take you up on your kind offer. Pay day is around the corner........ I must go now as I need ot be up early doors to carry out our quarterly DR test - if the weather is good the se7en is going into town 😬 (i'l try not to wake the whole street as I go) So if its a normal DR test I shall be on the other place (PH) and now also BlatChat whilst I wait for things to happen 😬 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  17. Crudders Are you literally around the corner from me? As I'm not putting a name/face to a BlatChat username!!!! Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  18. Thanks Nick & John Off to halfords then! Of and the instructions on how to achieve my goal of the roll bar is very very appreciated 😬 Edited: Because John posted atfer I'd writted my message and I don't want him to think I ignored what he said, thanks to Crudders too 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe Edited by - michaeljclark on 11 Jun 2010 22:18:21
  19. Thanks SM25T I asked about the removal of the spring/damper to enable the fitting of the Tack Day Roll Bar in another thread and I guess my post above was a follow up. As a complete novice when it comes to nuts and bolts, I thought it best to ask rather than assume 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  20. This is probably a silly question but I shall ask it anyway My RoadSport SV has the 10 spoke wheels on, what size socket do I need to remove the wheels nuts with (no jack/brace supplied with car). I'm thinking 19mm. Indeed I've taken the 19mm socket from the set I've got and this seems to do the trick (it also kits my Jag X-Type quite happily too, but thought I'd check with the masses before I stuff something up Can I also have some assistance/info with regards purchasing a Torque Wrench Halfords have their "professional" range, but having read the CC Build Manual it would appear that I'd need the 8-60Nm and also the 40-200Nm to get the right range required - or have I not looked far enough around and someone has a better suggestion? Asking all the above I'd like to have a go at fitting the Tack Day roll bar and I know the wheels need to come off (so need the correct size socket) and then getting the right Torque on all the nut's and bolts for re assembley 😬 Cheers Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  21. Ta I suddenly had a brain wave - people build their Caterhams, so it must be in the build manual. Sure was: Section 8, Page 3 (or page 111 of the whole manual) So I think I'll wait for a pay day this month and make a call 😬 Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  22. Thanks all I wish I'd paid more attention at Caterham South, when they had the Bilstein's out to stiffen the suspension. I saw Kevin take the top bolt out when he took one of the shocks out, but I didn't see if he did anything at the other (bottom) end. Does the bottom end just slot into the rest of the suspension somehow? Ian: Re the boot over, it must be said that the "slots" in the cover that the rear arms of the standard roll bar go through seem to have some slack in them, but the boot over does look a look a little worn (all the velcro is coming to bits) It's times like this that I wish there was a Haynes manual for the Seven! Cheers Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  23. Hoping someone can answer a query for me please I was about to order a 1/2 hood for my 2007 Roadsport SV, when I was informed at a North Kent meeting that for Club track days I need an FIA roll over bar, and that the 1/2 hood differs between the basic roll over bar and the FIA one. I'm assuming that for the FIA roll bar I need one of these: FIA Roll bar As I understand it, I'm going to have to: Remove the old roll bar Jack the seven up (and I know I need to use stands) Remove the shock absorbers (do the wheels have to come off for this too?) Install the new FIA roll bar and bolt it in Reinstall the shocks Exactly how difficult is it to remove the shocks (I have Bilstein adjustable ones), am I looking at simply removing the bolt from behind the seats (that I've heard about) or is it more complicated? Thanks in advance Mike 07 Plated RoadSport SV 150 in Red with Black nose band and stripe
  24. That was me! Yeah, she was a little cold - I did tell her to wrap up warm!! We were on our way for a break in Devon. Did about 700 miles in all.
