  1. Oli I suggest you remove the box and have it refreshed. Unfortunately speed events are not kind to gearboxes as the oil is cold. I use Phil Stewart at Road & Race Transmissions nr Sevenoaks, Kent 01959 525105. Do not ignore it as the cost of any repair will escalate.
  2. Dan I think I might need to fast to go faster
  3. A common fault on the LHS side for a K but not heard of a failure on a Duratec. It will be interesting to see if the new mount has any extra reinforcment which is what they did for the K.
  4. Jack What engine and throttle bodies are fitted? Please can you also take a couple of pictures so we can see how the airbox fouls on the brake master cylinder.
  5. I am with Oli there is more to sprinting than top end power and you can be fast in a straight line but unless your car set up is good, so you can brake and maximise your apex speed you will not succeed. The biggest gains to be made are in driver ability and I would spend my money on driver training as this is the area for the biggest gains. There have been plenty of examples where drivers throw the cheque book at the car and then are disappointed that they are not competitive. There are also numerous examples where the car with less power regularly beats the more powerful.
  6. 1.6 K Series on Ebay not mine but might be worth considering
  7. David IIRC the regs have never prohibited the use of 633 cams that is just your recollection/interpretation. This is club motorsport at the lowest level and if your want more regulation equal weights of car and driver deserve more consideration that cam profiles
  8. I would not count on any great improvement on what you currently have given the experience of others.
  9. As you say in past and I know the car your talking about however, to be fair to the Comp Sec at the time they sold the car and did not return to the championship. If you want clarification on cams then perhaps you should have submitted a proposal along the lines of Supersport cams or equivalent such as the Piper 633.
  10. If any competitor has reasons to doubt the eligibility of any competitor then they should raise it 'in confidence' with the Comp Sec.
  11. David The regulations allow the Comp Sec to move a competitor to another class and in the past where competitors have not complied with the regulations this has been dealt with by the Comp Sec. This has been done in confidence and resolved. I know because I had to do so when I was Comp Sec. The regulations are designed for Speed Events not a one make race championship and work. I keep an eye on speed trap data (I am sure others do) which will highlight excessive power and I have seen nothing of concern and if I did I would have a discreet word with Chris B. You do not need to be a driving god to drive a car quick in a straight line. I remember the day when the club followed MSA regs for classes with a 1700cc limit so a 1.8k Superlight was in the same class as a Superlight R and when the regs were changed to the class structure we have now 1.6K with a ported head was allowed to even the competition with the 1.8K. I see no reason to change the regs and incur competitors unnecessary cost.
  12. I use a cone step drill for each corner then a Dremel with a diamond cutting disc to join then up. Use plenty pf masking tape to protect the paint work.
  13. I agree with Richard and the way the regs are currently written keeps the costs down and has produced very close competition over many years. I therefore see no reason to change, oh and what was the engine in the class 2 winning car
  14. A Leak Down Tester is not expensive and you may be able to borrow one from a club member so all you need is access to a compressor. I would prefer to know the reason before I started to strip down an engine. I have seen a K series that had good readings on a compression test however, the leak down test revealed a problem
  15. I suggest you get a leak down test with the engine up to normal operating temperature.
  16. Dan It might be better if you changed the tilte of the thread to; 15" ten spoke Caterham Wheels with Tyres. I have yet to see a Caterham on 10" wheels
  17. Nigel I assume you mean No1 primary (they are normally numbered from the front). If the garage are unable/unwilling to make the alternator mod I would collect the car and either find a local member who can assist or take it to a Caterham specialist. I recommend you do not allow them to reshape the primary as this will have an adverse impact on the flow of the exhaust gases.
  18. Nick What make of LSD is fitted as this will dictate if it is suitable, as the pre-load and ramp angles are important. The answer to your questions are as follows: 1. The Sierra diff is 7" not 7.5 2. The standard ratio for a 5 speed is 3.9 so by using a 3.6 the acceleration will not be as good however, the top speed and speed in each gear will increase. Personally I would not use a 3.6 diff/5 speed with just 140bhp. It is possible for your 3.9 crown wheel and pinion to be fitted to the diff with the LSD so you retain the existing ratio. 3. An LSD is a good upgrade as it stops the unloaded wheel spinning up when exiting a corner. However, depending on the type of LSD it will increase noise. Hope that helps
  19. Oli If you do go ahead I will pop along with a video camera to record the action
