  1. Sorry for delay, just got back from a week's hols. I am green with a yellow nose (my doctor says not to worry) and often blatting towards Compton Abbas or Goodwood through the lanes. Yes just sorned mine too so await the big thaw next spring. What brings you down Velmore way or is that awkward
  2. This morning around 9am was it (was in deep sleep rushed to window thinking Santa had arrived early) a blue 7 without spare wheel cruised past 2 up onyour way for a blat no doubt
  3. That is pure simplicity! 😶‍🌫️ What should the clearance be then? Apparently in days of old they used to weld brass nuts on the bottom of the collector to get the optimum stand off.
  4. Once the sump is off and I replace with original how can I check the clearance with the collector plate is correct when in final position?
  5. that is exactly the issue. The old sump was a tad deeper which is why I want to reinstall it and keep the oil collector unmolested. Unfortunately there is no magic to get at the problem other than to remove the sump
  6. I have a low oil pressure problem which has plagued the engine since rebuild and I am pretty sure is due to the wrong sump pan being fitted. It came from a younger xflow (now spare) with different oil collector which accordingly also has the wrong sump. So I plan to swap them over but wondering how much work is involved? I have an engine hoist and from memory my bellhousing splash plate is 1 piece not 2 as has been discussed here before. Will it be easier to split engine and gearbox or take whole engine and gearbox assembly out? Also can I check oil pressure with a portable mechanical guage as car is std electronic Caterham fare which I know can be suspect?
  7. Couldn't get any Well Seal after trying several motor factors so gave up and as insurance policy ordered another filter king from Burton. Like before I chose the glass rather than aluminium bowl. However this one was proper glass whereas the previous was plastic (tho advertised as glass). On further comparison the glass sealing surface is concave whereas the plastic one is flat. Problem solved - no leak now but £55 poorer. I would have thought the concave surface much better at forming a seal wheareas the flat would struggle. I reckon I was sold a duffer with the plastic - has anyone else had this experience?
  8. RK, Thanks for that I'm off to get some from Halfords today. May also turn down the fuel pressure on the Filter King a tad as pre-set to 3psi and the Facet Silver Top fuel pump certainly chucks it out some (5-6psi I think)
  9. Fuel is leaking around perimeter of seal between glass cup and main body. Seal seems fine so have greased both faces and replaced and leak seems to have held. However when I first turned car over today the cup was full of fuel and it was flooding out of the seal; now between idle and 4,000 rpm the fuel level is only 1/3 full just above bottom of the filter cartridge. Which level is normal? I am running an electric fuel pump mounted in boot area. Lucky I caught before Goodwood so have a few weeks to sort. Any thoughts?
  10. It's our favourite pub and we have taken the 7 there many times. We were on table 54 in the garden. We only saw the cars on departure though my ears knew sthg interesting had arrived part way through lunch . It is one of England's finest settings I think and a very well run establishment. In May the trout are literally flopping around in front of you.... Hope we can meet soon for a blat n chat.
  11. Four beauties from Solent 7's in the car park: Yellow CSR, Orange SV Roadsport, Red K-series?, Green with yellow nose band and running boards and padded passenger seat. We were with dogs and children so couldn't really 7 today, hope you had fun guys!
  12. Dr Farrant I presume? Your silver 7 was spotted by my dear other half today outside your surgery. She was inside probably selling you a cement mixer. Perfect day for it!
  13. This be today sire around 10.30am! yes must be the returning lemaners
  14. Mate has spotted 5 of you (heading north I guess) on A34 between Winchester and Newbury, tops down and raining with brollies tied to boot. What's occurring?
  15. Yellow with stripe headed south off J3 or 4 around 8.45am this morning.
  16. I am looking for any unwanted, probably damaged, Italian bike frames for shop window dressing. Will pick up within reasonable distance from Winchester.
  17. Going down West Hill into the oneway a nicely prepared dark green with raceco. You kindly let me out of a side road in my tin top. Reminds me of just how good the 7 looks in dark green. That looked a well sorted car sir!
  18. Proxy spot by t'other arf. Quite old looking one on hard shoulder southbound nr Fleet services. Had you over shot your fuel stop sir?
  19. Metallic blue parked up in the middle of the big roundabout in east Farnham off the A31 near the pub on the island, 5pm on Friday. Looked the biz.
  20. The engine builder told me a trick they used to use int old days was to braze 3 nuts onto the bottom of the collector so it always sat on the sump floor at exactly the right height to pick up oil. This was the way round different sump depths using a std collector, but I think I have a shortened version.
  21. I have a circa 1996 wet sump from a 1996 711M block which is now on my AX block. It is a straight sided fabricated assembly. However the original AX block sump was more of a one piece stamping/pressing. Do they have different anatomy and did the oil collector pipes change at all? Now for the relevent bit - I have low oil pressure!
