  1. I am currently trying to make a circuit to allow push button indicators to be mounted on the steering wheel.press once to start, press again to stop or leave alone and they will cancel in 10 seconds.press the other side whilst one side is on and they cancel one and start the other. The theory is all done, just need the components and a bit of circuit board fabrication. The Meaning of Life Part VII;Death
  2. Nyloc nut??? Not sure if the Live axle is different, but i've just bolted the prop and the diff together using some "special" blue bolts and some Studlock loctite to 42lb/ft. What's so special about the bolts apart from they're blue?? The Meaning of Life Part VII;Death
  3. The engine came with a sump, head, oil filter, various senders and covers already fitted. The sump however is unsuitable for use on a Caterham. You will need to order an EA49 kit from Caterham, which includes a sump pan, baffle, new oil pick-up pipe,Starter motor,Air filter,Flywheel,Clutch plate and cover,Caterham spark plug cover (which is no use for the EU3) various metal plates, sender units, engine mounting brackets,a water rail and a dipstick. Anyone want to buy a Black caterham Spark plug cover? The Meaning of Life Part VII;Death
  4. Got mine from the local Rover dealer,£2731. Same price for both standard 1.8 and VVC. Cannot see how Caterham can justify the huge price increase for the VVC unit if supplied by them.
  5. I'm interested...was let down by Hein Gericke after two months of waiting for them to supply me with one of their dashboards, more info required on its suitability for six speed box and if the inputs could be used for a fuel gauge. Will take a look at the manual for the Pro system, can't seem to see one for the 3. Keep us updated on the prices, though I would probably not need the G sensor version.
  6. No notes anywhere on Location?
  7. Mr Hooper, Are you looking to get hold of a blank dash in order to do your own thing? I tried to get my new car delivered with a blank carbon dash but Caterham say they don't supply them.(they can only supply precut in either analogue or stack dash layouts). It looks like the only way to do your own is to lay a piece of flat carbon over the top of the existing one and glue/bolt it into place. (Unless anyone knows any better?)
  8. So would any of you like to relive the halcyon days in this fine motor car? A bargain at the price I'm sure but if you don't think so then make me an offer!
  9. Sad to see it go,but as I have a Superlight arriving in July I need the garage space. 1989 F reg Mica Blue,Special Edition. No Tax or Test. Some rust along doors and rear wing. Would rather it went to someone who could restore it or use it to restore another one. Still runs, just can't build any enthusiasm to fix it myself what with the Seven coming. £500 only!!
  10. Yes,sounds like disc movement is causing the pads to be pushed back into the calipers. If you have access to a dial gauge, test the run out of each disc to see if its warped,if not then bearings are the next step (unless you have floating discs a la Motorcycle) Does the brake padal go down slowly if you keep pressure on it? May be a seal leaking if the other two things don't show anything wrong.
  11. A bare head £1200???? blush.gif I can get a complete VVC engine "New" for +/- £2000 from Rover.(although without starter/alternator etc) I will be throwing away the original Cams,Valves,Pistons and the likes in order to do a Solid non VVC conversion so thought a bare head would be a cheaper way of going about it.(I am of course assuming A "New" 1.8 costs less than the VVC)

    VVC Heads

Does anybody know the part number for a bare VVC Head (and a price)?? Due to a complete VVC engine being a little expensive/difficult to come by and the fact I will be throwing much of the technical bits away,I am looking to buy a new 1.8 engine and a head casting from a VVC to merge the two together.
  13. Thanks Bob, I'll be ordering my engine at the beginning of april so any better offers will be gratefully accepted. I'll call Viking to see if they can source one for me. Am I right in thinking you didn't have an engine to give in exchange? Because I don't and I think I would be hard pushed to find one.
  14. For that amount of information I'd be willing to pay double! You'll be getting an email shortly.
  15. I was led to believe that a "Service replacement" VVC was around £1000 (no ancilliaries) Where's Bob Corbishley when you need him?)
  16. If you had 33 interested parties for the few engines you had going...is there anybody on here has the will or the way to get a bulk order of engines from Rover and a reasonable discount for such an order? If a count of interested parties could be made and a price per unit given out,I'm sure we could have a bulk buy!
  17. Any chance there might be some more available in the near future??sad.gif
  18. I heard a story once from a friend of mine, who had advised another friend to put coppaslip on all the bolts on the engine of his new motorbike(to stop corrosion making them impossible to remove later in the life of the machine). A week or so later he appeared, with little blobs of coppaslip stuck to the ends of every bolt head on the bike.smile.gif (He hadn't bothered to unscrew them first!)

    13" wheels

Gary, Some wheels are marked with the offset, usually as part of the wheel size,e.g. 6J13ET23 where 6=rim width,J=type of rim moulding,13=wheel diameter and ET23=offset. I was hoping somebody could look at a set of 16" HPC's and see if they are marked in this way. I am currently emailing Caterham to advise them they have supplied this info in the manuals and that I just want to ensure it is correct. Simon from Caterham has just replied, and he now says the HPC wheel is marked as 19mm offset,Why couldn't they have said that in the first place? confused.gif Edited by - Grim Reaper on 6 Mar 2002 10:01:49

    13" wheels

Offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel that the mounting face is,well, offset!(positive usually means the mounting face is closer to the outside edge of the wheel than the inner arch,or the axle sticks further out into the arch)if the offset is too large (on the wheel) then the inside edge of the wheel will rub on the inner wing.Conversely,if the wheel has a negative offset, the wheel will stick out too much and will likely stick out beyond the bodywork. PCD is the Pitch Circle Diameter,i.e the diameter of the imaginary circle that the wheel bolts are on.
  21. Aahh Regin! Still looking for a bargain I see!! (I'm an Angel!! How can that be??) Edited by - Grim Reaper on 5 Mar 2002 21:51:28

    13" wheels

Hmmm, that doesn't make sense, nor does it match with my belief that the standard wheels have an ET of +23?? if the figures above are correct, then the wheels would be sitting much closer to the car than I expected (if you take the negative to mean positive) or they are way outside the edges of the arches (if the negative is true)confused.gif
  23. I have also seen an anti seize compound named "Ti-prep" by Finish Line, claims to stop cold weld seizures, and hot welds up to 2000F intermittent,1200F constant. £2.99 for 15g syringe from MPS
  24. Whilst on the subject of side repeaters, what is the SVA requirement for their positioning? Could I do away with the ones on the wings and place them on the side panel, say somewhere just forward of the lower windscreen mounting point?
  25. Mail has been sent!smile.gif
