  3. Can anyone suggest ways of protecting the paintwork either side of the engine bay where the bonnet sits - Armourfend? gaffer tape? It's an area that can take a real hammering and I'd like to find a long-term solution. All recommendations gratefully received.
  4. Has anyone successfully fitted stoneguards to their headlights? I know this was the subject of a thread back in April but I'm still struggling to source a suitable type. The gap between the lens and the chrome rim is about the square root of zip which precludes the usual flat plate connectors which seem more suited to built-in lamps. All experiences gratefully received. Charles
  5. I need to remove my windscreen to replace the rubber strip which it rests on. The two nuts which secure each side bracket are obstructed by a thin black metal plate which appears to be held in place by black self-tappers into the frame - I'm not keen on removing these until I know what else they might be fixed to. I also want to avoid dropping nuts, washers, etc into the void behind the cockpit side lining. All ideas gratefully received.
  6. Tony Simon Lambert quoted me £32 + VAT each for GRP cycle wings (£153.18 + VAT for carbon!!!!). A paint job was £40 each inc VAT. Charles
  7. Count If it's not too much trouble, I'd be interested to see a photo of the repeaters and the clear Landrover units. You can reach me at c.griffin@wellcome.ac.uk. Many thanks Charles.
  8. Having browsed the archives for alternatives to these abominations (and as I'm about to replace the wings anyway), I'm tempted by the idea of fitting repeaters either on the side of the headlights or on the side of the bodywork. Can anyone direct me to photographs of either solution? Someone suggested Transit fittings for the latter - any other recommendations gratefully received.
  9. Jan My VVC 6sp came back from its first service at Dartford with Comma Syner-G 5w-40. Regards Charles. PS. How's the front garden? (or what's left of it)
  10. Went to take the pride-and-joy for a blast last Sunday. Took off the cover and found a white powdery deposit around the rivets which secure the stainless steel wing protectors - looked a bit like the corrosion you get on aluminium fittings on boats! Has anyone else had a similar problem? All ideas for prevention gratefully received. Charles
  11. Thank you all for your help. In case you're wondering, the VVC will now be delivered at the end of July with a 6-speed box.
  12. I noticed on Autocar's Scholarship car that the Petty strut was bolted to the left side of the "fuselage" immediately below the small triangular section of the dashboard. But surely Caterham can advise?
  13. Browsing through some used Se7ens over the weekend, I noticed how many had sustained damage to their radiators (presumably from the flying hard stuff - the thought of a stone approaching at a relative speed in excess of 100mph is a sobering one!). Although the result was limited to mangled fins (i.e. no punctures), it emphasised the vulnerability of the rad and the ineffectiveness of the grille in preventing such damage. Someone's told me that fine mesh grilles used to be available through the Club with proceeds going to Nuke the Leuk. If so, are they still available? If not, does anyone know where I can get one?
  14. Mike, £1500 is the price quoted in Caterham's options price list dated October 1999, ie. for new cars only (presumably) and representing the extra-over cost compared with the standard 5-speed. I don't know whether this allows for substitution of the standard 3.92:1 diff.
  15. Many thanks for the positive response - sounds like a "no brainer".
