  2. Quoting Paul Richards: If you need some rubber to edge it and stop marking body, let me know.Paul - what style of rubber edging do you use? I recently bought a second hand aeroscreen and an initial fit suggests there'll be a gap under the leading edge and that some sort of rubber such as this or this would a. fill it and b. prevent the aero scratching the scuttle.

    Aeroscreen

    Is this any good...?
  4. In the absence of any offer of GONADS (oo-er Mrs) my alternative would be to persuade my brother-in-law to help in a couple of weeks when he and his 3-series Touring will be with us but given it'll possibly be a three hour round trip and use £20-worth of fuel, I think my purchase is looking both impractical and expensive for something that I didn't know I wanted/needed before your posting! So, it seems only fair I withdraw and you take gin-fizz-whizz's money.
  5. Ahead of my build (a 140 Supersport) I read all the build logs and watched all the videos I could find via google. Tom has since added his excellent one to those and my time lapse video is . You can also download the build manual from Caterham ahead of any work too. I think most builders would summarise their extra advice as: - expect shortages - so read ahead and check what bits you've not got - Derek at the factory is a brick, very helpful and worth chatting-up early in your build - the diff is diff-icult but easier than it used to be - fill the gearbox oil before fitting it - build the headlight sub-assemblies early and fit when you do the front suspension - expect it all to cost more than you think Needless to say, I didn't do all of these but had an absolute gas. Time wise, I spent ~130 hours (judging by the length of the time lapse) in the garage (and lots more out of it reading, researching, thinking about the build etc) of which most was looking for tools, looking for bits, ringing Derek to ask him to send what I was short of, tidying tools away etc with comparatively little screwing things up, sorry, together. Enjoy!
  6. zerec - James May used to (he may still...) live near St Peters Square (strictly speaking Hammersmith and W6 I think) and drink in the Cross Keys - about a km from me. Lee - if POBC / GONADS can help, we're in business!
  7. I'm interested Lee... would you be able to get it to Chiswick? (or could anyone GONADS it? - assuming that can be a verb!)
  8. Quoting Gregs79: Which connection is the correct one on the microswitch? Use the top connector. Also, assuming you've an S3, you need to twist the handbrake cable (so looking from above, it looks figure-of-eight-ish, rather than a loop)
  9. Is the long nose showercap compatible with aeroscreens as well as windscreens or are there two versions available?
  10. Quoting TomWoodis: I'll have a look this evening and see whether I think it's removable or not. Were you able to determine whether it is or not, Tom? Would be interested to know given our cars are pretty much contemporaneous whether mine is too!

there are a pair of S3 half-doors on eBay if of use/interest...
  12. have a look on eBay... there's a "Caterham Full Roll Cage to Fit Imperial Chassis" Opening at £150 with no bids to date. Any good...?

  14. I built my car as per standard Caterham parts and due to a misinterpretation of the IVA standards by the tester failed on the visibility of the front indicators. So I looked up the standard... (which is how I know it was misinterpreted). It is available to download online. Indicators are dealt with on page 23; well I sent that page as part of my carefully-worded "are you sure" email which to be fair, was answered immediately in an apologetic manner. Track day camera

Quoting Gregs79: I have a Go Pro and a Go Pro HD. May look to sell the GoPro if you are intersted?!Will you be using your HD to record your build? (I promised myself I'd write a blog as you are but never did... but I did make a !)

    Heater vent

I don't recall querying the orientation at the time and the way I fitted it made sense (to me!)... though, as pointed out in comments above, in retrospect it was obviously wrong! 😳

    Heater vent

Quoting Alaskossie: What doe the CC assembly manual say about the correct way to orient the heater vent panel in the cockpit? It doesn't! No destructions, no photos... nuffink! Which is why Caterham charged me to refit it at my PBC....!
  19. You're a star, many thanks!
  20. Result; thank you so much! 😶‍🌫️ BlatMail en route...
  21. Thinking about it, I reckon it was your comment about enlarging from M5 to M6 and it was certainly your pictures that you posted years ago that convinced me that this would be the neatest installation! I'll take your advice and go for the meatier fixing. Haven't bought the screws yet (wasn't sure whether would need M5 or M6). Don't suppose you have some spares I could ponce? If not, there're reasonably priced items available online.
  22. Cheers! Not sure of the size but seem to recall reading elsewhere that the existing hole (where the IVA mirror mounts) is an M5, so I'd drill/tap a second one the same size (that said, think I have also read of people enlarging them to M6 for a bit more strength) So, rather than posting a whole set, if I could borrow both M5 and M6 taps and the wrench, that'd be great. As you say, unless someone closer can help!
