    tracking

Further to my recent post about camber adjustments, I'm hoping to pop into a tyre place at the weekend to get my tracking checked & adjusted. I've read a variety of opinions - most would seem to suggest 0.5 deg of toe-in for a car that's mainly used on the roads, though some say 0 deg parallel. I believe that some toe-in increases stability at the expense of reducing the sharpness of turning in - is 0.5deg a reasonable compromise? It's a '97 SuperSport on 14inch A048s. cheers, Darren.
  2. Nah it wasn't an idiot Bob, it was a decent bloke who collected a battery for me 😬 Mark took a quick look at the seal and thought it looked damaged - hence my posting cheers, Darren.
  3. Can anyone tell me if this seal on the filter side is supplied with a replacement oil filter or if I need to source it separately? Photo here Edited to add: it's a 1997 1.6 K series. cheers, Darren. Edited by - LazerBrain on 8 Mar 2005 12:30:54
  4. Good points about the cambelt - I'm really trying to get the car into a known state so I'll add this to my list. cheers, Darren.
  5. cheers guys. The car only has around 6k miles on it, I just wanted to give it the full works before my trackday and the peak blatting season as I'm not 100% sure of the service history. Cambelt is an interesting point - is it likely to wear due to low usage? cheers, Darren.
  6. I've seen the service schedule from Caterham and James Whiting and wondered if anyone had any additions to it that they'd recommend, or is that list pretty comprehensive? The car is a 7 year old K-series SuperSport. cheers, Darren.
  7. I've got some... but I'm keeping it for later in the year 😬 cheers, Darren.
  8. Peter for the measurements & to Mark for his time today. It turned out that there was about 0.25deg on the left and about 2deg on the right wheel. This has now been corrected so the next step is to get the tracking checked. Oh, and the steering wheel re-aligned cheers, Darren.
  9. Apparently there's a standard for the wiring of 3 pin XLRs for power - and mine is currently non-standard but will be corrected soon. cheers, Darren.
  10. Interesting point Bare - the wear has appeared after ~350 miles. Chatting to Steve & Phil at the Phoenix meet last night it's possible that the camber is fine on that side - and not enough on the other Mark - cheers, I'll take you up on that offer. I'll give you a call later cheers, Darren.
  11. GJT - Why not fit a XLR socket to your 7, then make up a short lead with a XLR plug on one end and the "Tamiya" connector to connect to your conditioner on the other. This would then give you a solid, locking connector in the 7 and you could then fit XLR plugs to the GPS, map lights, etc... I've just fitted a trailing XLR socket, but I intend to put a flush mounting socket into a small box and attach it under the dash somewhere. cheers, Darren.
  12. Thanks for the info guys, I'll have a go at getting some initial measurements. I first noticed the camber in this photo here back on the previous tyres, which were Pileups and didn't show any wear at all! cheers, Darren.
  13. BTTT *arrowup* Any suggestions? cheers, Darren.
  14. I've noticed that the inside of my front right tyre is getting more wear - is there an easy DIY method of measuring and adjusting camber or should I be visiting a tyre fitter to get it checked and adjusted? If so, any recommendations in the Reading area? cheers, Darren.
  15. How about my speedo that notches up 10% more miles than I actually do, due to it's inaccuracy? (I haven't tested this yet against the odometer yet, but the speedo is out when compared against GPS.) cheers, Darren.
  16. Yes & Yes. I'd better put it by the Momo so I don't forget it! cheers, Darren.
  17. Mark - I have the Astra 91-92 manual (1832) It includes the C 20 XE (2.0 DOHC) engine. You're welcome to borrow it for a while. cheers, Darren.
  18. I''ve been re-reading other people's experiences of fitting the wheel magnets for the Sigma BC1200. Some have glued it to bolt heads on the hub, other have glued it to the wheel. I'd prefer to have it on the hub to save hassle if I change wheels. The question is, will having a chunk of magnet glued to the wheel or the hub affect the wheel balance? I'm also pondering on some form of lighting for the speedo - has anyone taken a Sigma apart to see if there's room for any tiny leds inside, or does everyone rely on external lighting? cheers, Darren.
  19. I think my idea of liposculpture was better cheers, Darren.
  20. I'm a skinny git so I have no excuse really 😬 Anyway, I think I'll leave it for the time being as it was last reset when I changed tyres cheers, Darren.
  21. Cheers Alan - I didn't think it would be worth trying to stick the stub back on, at least this saves me wasting time trying As the reset mechanism is a push fit into the under dash housing, is it practical to just leave it pushed back so that the knob bit is level with the front of the housing & doesn't get caught? I'm also glad to hear it isn't just me that's done this! cheers, Darren.
  22. I know it's another incentive for me to get a Sigma fitted, but is it possible to repair the reset button on the trip meter? I caught a trouser leg on it as I got in the other night and there was a gentle 'click' as it snapped off. ☹️ I can't quite tell if the plastic knob was a push fit, glued or screwed on. It's a 1997 Caterham badged speedo with the reset thingy mounted just under the dash. cheers, Darren.
  23. er, nope - but I was still wearing the release agent off the A048's at that point... cheers, Darren.
