  1. Thanks Robster I do have an LSd , but I don't know if I have oil seals fitted over the baffles. I guess I should ask Steve Perks of SPC as he built up the axle. Matthew
  2. I should add it is the disc braked variety and I believe this has some bearing on the half shaft durability?? Matt
  3. Can any of you engineer types tell me what My axle can cope with? I have a JW factory approved Fireblade and am getting the engined tuned over the winter. The axle is modified , a baffled and overfilled variety. Bearing in mind my car wieghs in at 380kg and I use very soft ACB10's what should I limit the power to? Reliability is paramount. Thanks Matt.
  4. Thanks guys i think 65 seems about right. Matthew
  5. I want to ship a blade engine and need to know what it weighs? I'm sure someone out there knows. Thanks in anticipation. Matthew

    Data loggers

Thanks guys but I am not much the wiser? I predominantly want to see how I am doing at track days rather than compare to another car driver. I looked at the AIM XGLog Gold/Plus but it looked more than I needed. Matthew

  11. Gary I dont want to get your hopes up too high but I might just be interested. I already have a blade. email me some photos and your lowest price. Matthew
  12. I think my caterham firblade may have clutch slip? On this years Le Sept I felt top speed was down despite engine pulling top revs. Did a track day last Saturday. When I first went out it seemed very quick pulling almost 130mph. I was faster down the straight than a 175BHP vauxhall. Then the car struggled to pull 120+ and the Vauxhall was pulling away down the straights (of course he was nowhere in the bends). why I'm thinking clutch slip is, if the engine is pulling max revs but going slower with all else equall the clutch must be slipping. Also should I get a Barnett clutch and where do you purchase them in the UK? Advise greatly appreciated. Gasman. Matthew
  13. Do you have a hydraulic or mechanical switch? I had same problem with hydraulic type. I just fitted mechanical switch leaving hydraulic one in place but not wired up. What happens is the hydraulic switch incorporated in the brake piping gets "stiff" and only actuates with high line/pedal pressure. Hope that helps Matthew

  17. Caterham Supersprint 1989. Red & Ali Zetec 2 litre upgrade. Genuine total milage 13971 miles. I have owned this car from new and have upgraded it constantly. (Upgrading is half the fun) It has always been garaged and spent winters in Carcoon for last 8 years. Virtually no wet road use. Specification Ist registered September 1989 DeDion Rear axle with LSD Chassis immaculate 2 litre Zetec on Weber 45’s. This engine, a brand new Paul Dunnell 160BHP motor was installed using James Whiting (JW) installation in 1995. Later I had Dunnell upgrade it to 190bhp. Cams and ported and upgraded ignition pack. Dunnells Dyno shows 193bhp at flywheel. This engine has done no more than 8000 miles. Raceline Sump Gearbox SP close ratio semi-helical 5 speed type 9 box (Same as Alex Wong Raves about) Original gearbox available as spare perfect working order Raceline Alloy bel-housing Suspension Front and rear adjustable Leda Spring damper units (JW supplied) Wide track front double wishbone and ARB suspension (JW supplied) Rear ARB compatible suspension, ARB with car but not fitted Cycle wings (spare set with car for alternative wheels) Brakes AP rotors and AP 4 pot callipers (JW supplied) standard rear discs retained Alluminium radiator (JW supplied) Raceco 2.5 inch Titanium silencer (Beautiful!& JW supplied) FIA Roll bar with petty strut Quick release steering wheel Heated Screen Heater Full weather equipment Tonneau Leather seats 6 Point driver harness 4 Point passenger 7´13 Genuine Magnesium Minilite wheels with ACB 10’s 7-21-13 front 7-22-13 rear Full spare set of superlite wheels 7´13 & 6´13 fitted with Yokohama 032R’s Carbon fibre stone guards Car has done local track days and a few local hill climbs it has not been raced or pranged This car has a great spec is probably almost as good as a Superlight R at a fraction of the cost. 18. On Carbs. Possibly the last one on carbs due to emission reg changes and MOT. Thats all irrellevant to me as its just superb. Despite all the delays its hats off to James Whiting once again. Quite simply the best car I have ever driven. GasMan

    Battery Options

Does your Crossflow have an electric fuel pump? Earlier cars used mechanical pump. I wrecked two batteries on old crossie then changed to Zetec 2ltr with lecky pump and BMW motorcycle battery. Fitted the original battery box and has worked perfectly for 8 years! Matt
  22. MB has had some bad press on blat chat recently. I'd like to put the other side. I think his product is great and when weight really counts theres nothing to compare. I ordered a set from him, put the cheque in the post Monday and had the wheels and nuts Friday. Now I call that service. By the way the SnapOn socket clears the wheel easily.
  23. Thanks for the advice. Yes mine is the disc braked rear axle. I will use ACB 10's 6.0/21.0-13 fronts and 7.0/22.0-13 rears I think 6" fronts and 7" rears from MB will be the ones to go for but I still need the offsets for the rears. MB said if one of the disc braked guys measured from the outside of the hub to a plumb dropped from the inside edge of the wheel arch he could work out the offset. Any further suggestions? Matt
  24. JW has my Blade almost ready now. Passed its SVA just waiting for the cage from Caterham. Reason for the posting. I've decided to get Mike Barnby's Magnesium Wheels. 6 1/2*13 fronts should be OK. But should I get 7 or 7 1/2 *13 rears? The big question. Anyone know what the rear offset should be? I would like to get it right first time. JW closed this week and I'd like to order them as son as possible. Thanks Matt
