    Tyres

While this threat is running, I'd like comments/ suggestions about 185 60 14s Please. I like GJT want to wear tyres out not throw them away, my 85 7 has NEXEN CP661s, never heard of them until i bought the car , Their made in Korea, so Wiki tells me A friend uses Yokohama AE01s but there unobtainium in 185 60 14 Thoughts greatly appreciated
  2. In all the pictures Ive seen the solid mounted, my thinking is as long as the hose vibration is isolated from the cooler that removes the probability. Classic aircraft engines the coolers are solid mounted to the engines but they do have diagonal bracing on the cooler. I've ordered a Mocal cooler, and even though I wasn't going to run one, its a OH well the options available and its easy to do now.
  3. Magic thanks for the link, I had a look in the Mocal listing and didn’t see that size.interesting Burton’s recommend rubber mounting it, given the distance from the motor I would have thought it not necessary.
  4. Does anyone know what the optional oil cooler was for S3 Chassis, or at least what fits? The mounts have holes 8” apart which doesn’t match any oil coolers I’ve found, and rather than move the mounts, I thought I’d investigate what the original fitment was fist, I using -10 fittings.
  5. What year is your car? And the config of the front chassis tubes bigX?
  6. I found this picture which shows the BDR model with the oil supply line running under the car. Are there any BDR owners on here?http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/10204/d7.jpg
  7. Good thread as a trigger for me to replace my speedo seal while the box (4 speed) is out, replaced the others, didn’t think of the speedo,
  8. Thanks Guys luckily 98 is readily available from major Fuel companies. and Elie thanks for the insight about the valve seats, something to keep in mind. I will grab some valve saver.
  9. A friend is collecting a 88SS next week and I was wondering what is the correct Octane rating, The car is an ex Japanese factory built car with 1.7 litre 10.5:1 comp. I figure at that comp level 98 is the correct rating only other option is 95
  10. I thought I had seen this and it was in Low flying. https://www.lotus7.club/sites/default/files/images/users/4437/Rollover%20Bar%20Article%20-%20Lf%20Jan%202018.pdf
  11. Added to the cost, as Sierra’s we’re not sold in Australia, so a second box Not overhauled will set you back an average of 550UKP plus...
  12. Yes However is he in Australia?
  13. Thank you all for the links and the good suggestions, and after reading all the info, I'll leave the gearbox that's in the car as it is for now. Physically the T9 wont fit, unless I remove the complete saddle from the existing mount. The T9 mount needs to effectively be at the floor skin and hence the redesign by Caterham of the chassis in that area.
  14. Good suggestion, however I will clarify the question to a standard Caterham bar, the reason is key issue is that Caterham no longer have a listing for the live axle cars, and redline website is only really an inquiry only site.
  15. Hi all, I would like some assistance with the dimensions of the current S3 chassis roll bar. I could take a guess from the pictures however, to have some details of a factory one will assist. if there is a link that would be great, if not the following will help. I plan to have one made as the freight to the colonies for a factory one is prohibitive. i only plan to use one for a road car, What Diameter tube is the current road bar what height are they from there mount base. Lastly the angle from the vertical. many thanks in advance.
  16. Hi all, I appreciate this question has probably been asked many times however bear with me , I was considering fitting a T9 box to get a fifth gear. However the chassis is set for an Escort box and the bulk of the cast iron case and the 5th gear extension housing interferes with the chassis mounts. Has any one successfully done this or should I just s tick with the 4 speed. many thanks in advance.
  17. When some types of fuel dry out it leaves a residue that looks like yellow varnish. How long since the carbies have had an overhaul? Carby cleaner will clean the jets but you need to remove them just to do it, but that is just the jets, to clean the internal galleries. they need to come to pieces.
  18. The old mechanical location I’ve seen on FF engines interesting idea, the oil supply under the bell housing I assume is at the joint of the gearbox.
  19. Hi Guys the plumbing schematic isn't the concern its just the physical location and as Oliver suggested the steering rack mounting bracket is worth investigating, The other suggestion i have considered is a cover plate for the fuel pump that can mount the filter ala FF
  20. Great start what oil filter arrangement do you have?
  21. I have just finished having a Twin Cam engine rebuilt for my 85 Caterham. The engine has been dry sumped with Titan pump remote filter type and Alloy sump. Tank is going where the battery used to reside. Id like to see how others with similar engined cars with dry sumps are plumbed and where did you put the filter, pictures would be great please.
  22. This may sound odd but I been searching for a set of 5 14x6 minilite style wheels for 85 ital diff 7. the wheels on the car are ally steel wheels and the steel is rusty. It’s cheaper to replace than re chrome. so what I am after is 14x6 et 16 or 19. And tube mount as the car has the original 3/8” 1 inch long studs. any suggestions?
  23. Thanks for the insight, good info indeed, as I need the same and blades, for my 85, 7
  24. A quick intro, what does au-yt stand for, its critic, Whitey "yt" is my nick name and hey you,"au" is a classic Aussie term even if it's a bit non PC. And au is the Internet reference to Australia.. OK your bored now .. Back to why I decided to get a 7, loved these for years and now I'm retired and have far to much time on my hands and can now spend more time with grown up toys. When I moved from Sydney I met two guys with brand new Morgan's and I thought it's about time I got a 7 to chase them around the local roads. I also wanted a basic car no computers barking Webers, and 30 years old, for cheap local rego. After a few phone calls I put a wanted add in the local Lotus club mag for a S2 S3 7 needing TLC. Bingo I got a call from a guy who, sadly was clearing his estate due to terminal cancer and wanted his 1985 Caterham 7 to go to a good home. I bought an Elan Sprint from another terminally ill person only 4 years before, scary. Enough of that history, the car is a Australian kit built long cockpit car, originally with a 1600 push Rod , replaced in 92 by an Elan plus 2 motor, and a late Twin Cam head. Due to the guys illness it has been sitting for a while and when he started it I suspect has a broken ring gland ( leaking head gasket maybe), as it is running but there is a Gail from the cam cover. The rest of the car is in quite reasonable condition. And only has a reasonably history file, nice for 32year old Caterham. I collected the car parked it at home and am now on holidays in Norway..and am having my garage extended so I have some decent toy room, after all there was never a garage built big enough. The picture isnt that great but I will start with just one.
