  1. This is my biggest fear - but no milkshake at all so far in either the header or oil catch tank - but the coolant is going somewhere Could the head gasket go and I not see the mixing?
  2. I am really hoping this is the fix - The old original o ring expanded and does not seal - local motorfactors had the right size but I am not sure if its sealing or holding pressure -I have emailed chris at redline to see if he has a proper one (waiting for a reply) Fingers crossed
  3. Hi Jonathan Coolant is pink still as before I have flushed and cleaned the system - no milk shake in either the header tank or the oil catch tank - this is my biggest worry. I flushed and re filled then had a decent run and the header was almost empty, topped up again and another drive again nearly empty and again - I have the bleed T and followed my usual filling (no problems before) As for thermostat - no idea and again no idea about the magic hole!!!
  4. So the back story Engine got a little hot on the way home from Wales - went to 100 and the warning light came on. I stopped within 400 yrd, lucky there was a garage. No coolant in the header - topped up and got home with a steady 76 degrees - happy days A couple of days later found it dame under the car and found a leak in the rad - that was repaired but still loosing coolant somewhere Found the o ring in the cap to have expanded so wont seal and loosing coolant while driving. New cap replaced and still loosing coolant - check every hose joint (even wrapped paper towel around each joint to check while on a decent drive - nothing!! all dry. But got home from this drive and expansion nearly empty (topped up before I left) I still have a little nagging doubt about the new cap (engine all dry though) - but other than that its a mystery. I seem to be using more coolant than petrol at the moment R500K series 2001 if that makes a difference
  5. Hi Jon, my PCP BMW will be ending in May hopefully, subject to the new car arriving. it's a 2018 dec registered BMW X3M40i with 23k miles. I am the on,y owner from new, full BMW service etc. can send more details if you like. But it's a fantastic all rounder with 355hp that fits the dog in the boot
  6. Go talk to Tony at Northampton motorsports. He will sort it.
  7. Just re fitting the newly wrapped primaries to the engine - last bolt = lost!!! for the life of me I cannot find it. It dropped somewhere and I have looked and looked, tried the extending magnet etc etc. no luck So what is the size of nut I need to get? - I am not taking any of the others off as they are a pain in the ar$e R500K to help thanks
  8. This is the fun and games I looking forward to next week - I managed to get it all off. Getting all the bolts off was fun to say the least and managed to get each primary out - just cleaning everything up ready to re wrap the primaries. Can has been re packed and ready. So a bit of polishing over the weekend, wrapping and then wish me luck putting it all back together.
  9. This is a silly question Two different size bolts for left and right - So in the build book, is the left side looking from the drivers seat or from the front looking at the engine???
  10. Chris was my first call - left a voice massage and sent an email
  11. You know that feeling when you start a job and it seems simple!!! Well - servicing the exhaust (big deal for me). Managed to get the can off, and attacking the primaries, only to discover that the last one was very tight and the engine was leaning over a bit far. Managed to free it and discovered the bolt from the mount to the block were not there. So does anyone know the size? need both of them Its a R500K if that makes a difference Thanks Nic
  12. I am going for it!! I have ordered some 2'' Lava wrap and some locking wire instead of the rubbish ties included. Also ordered some Acousta-Fil Exhaust Silencer Packing from Demon Tweeks - how tight does this need to be wrapped around the inner? I guess its wrapped until it just fits in and it expands with heat as the instructions say. Wish me luck!!!
  13. Thanks for the notes. I know I should take the primaries off to do it. But is it possible with them in situ?
  14. my very very old exhaust wrap is falling apart and burning now. So a winter job I think I might attempt is to have ago at re wrapping them - how hard can it be?? as the famous saying goes. So what is the go to wrap of choice these days - I have no idea as mine was done when I got the car. Also I think with the exhaust off I will have a go at re packing the silencer as well - confidence I am feeling now!!! But I am sure there will be swearing and questions of why did I start this etc etc Any issues I need to think about before attempting this big job? (big for me)
  15. old coolant dropped, system flushed - then used a rad flush with water - so for so good. Let it all cool down and drained and flushed again. - Tee bleed valve installed as described and filled again as described AND most importantly it worked!!!!! thanks - now just need to take it for a run at some point to double check, but all seem great
  16. Thanks guys, next weekends job is looking less sweary now. could I ask a small favour, could you post a photo of the tee in place please.
  17. That is a great couple of ideas and lessons Learnt!!!! I am off to France tomorrow and the swearing to try and top up the coolant could be heard in the next road I am sure. Tee ordered and being delviered next week. So a flush and re fill next weekend should be SO easy now!!! Thanks again
  18. Thats the one - thanks no idea why I could not find it
  19. Has anyone got a link to the t piece bleed valve to go into the coolant hose to help get stuck air from a K series!? I have had a look on ebay (I know they are on there) but just cannot find them Thanks Nic
