    MOT time

The regs don't define a minimum size but do say "clear and unobstructed view to the rear" Some discretion here, the petty strut could be an issue but if the car also has a nearside mirror it's fine.

    MOT time

Construction and use regulations under Road Traffic Act 1988 state that for a motorcar a minimum of 2 mirrors are required and that of those the offside mirror is obligatory. Therefore the other can either be an internal (or centre mirror ) or an offside mirror. Or both if you wish. This is to allow vans etc which have a bulkhead and would then have an offside and nearside mirror. This is an MOT requirement.

  4. Well, as I started this blog, it's, only right I should finish it as the planned upgrades are now all complete. The idea all along was to save some money and buy at the cheap end and upgrade to exactly the spec I wanted. It meant that if I found out a 7 didn't fit in with family life I hadn't spent loads finding out and I could sell with little loss. Of course, that wasn't the case and so the upgrade path commenced. I wanted to update and modernise the car and tweek the spec. I spent literally hundreds of hours searching images of 7s on the Internet for ideas and inspiration: what wheels did I want? What tyres? Even what profile looked best? Stripes or not? Carbon, backpack or even stay chrome? The wife called it car porn, every time she saw me on the iPad, she knew I was looking at Caterhams. It became a family joke, but finally I decided. Ultimately as was my plan I saved money not buying as it a factory new build and actually enjoyed the choosing and planning. And for some reason now, I feel such an attachment to the car that it means I am never changing her. She is all mine, and I understand a little more how satisfying building it yourself must be. I found some nice ten spoke 15 inch wheels on blat chat courtesy of a nice gent called Graham. I just didn't like the look of the 13s I had so they had to go. A company near me refurbished them and a new powder coat was applied. New Toyo T1 R tyres followed. I didn't ever find some wind deflectors so that's for the future. I booked the car into Bookatrack for the work: new black pack windscreen, heat shield and sills to modernise the look. I kept the chrome headlights as my wife just loves he reflections in them when driving and I have to agree it is kind of cool. A couple of minor warranty repairs, and a service too. There's a story to the service by the way: I had always been a little underwhelmed with the performance to be honest. It just didnt have the urgency I was expecting of a seven. There was no snap to the acceleration and you really had to wring its neck to make any progress. The journey home after the work and service however was a surprise as the car felt completely different. There was power everywhere and it was much much quicker. Methinks that it had perhaps been running on three cylinders since I had it and now I have the company of four. It's the cheapest 35 BHP upgrade you can get! Anyway, two pictures to show the work. One as a 125 BHP Roadsport when I bought it, the second as completed; 140BHP, 15 inch alloys, modern look, a little suspension work and some Mintex pads complete the transformation. Some Armorfend to the side skins and new cycle wings as well. Hope you like it. For me, she is perfect.
  5. About 4.20 this afternoon in Bury toward Ramsey. Proxy spot by SWMBO.
  6. Don't forget, if you buy ths you could sell your current engine to offset the cost and have a very cheap excellent set up.
  7. Might be.. Couldn't possibly say... Might be a engine for sale with circa 155bhp. Might not. Who knows? It's all man maths at the moment,
  8. This is by way of a test the water but I may well have my 140 Sigma engine up for sale shortly. Originally this was a 125 bhp engine fitted in 2015 to an S3 roadsport, but was upgraded by Caterham to 140 Supersport spec with new cams, ECU and air box at 2646 miles in August 2016. Since then it has done an additional 1000 miles so currently has approximately 3500 miles. This will include the ECU, all major ancillaries and will basically be a drop it in and go option. There may even be an option to have it fitted by a well known company at a small additional cost. So, I am looking to gauge interest in this at a price of £2500.
  9. Just had a phone conversation with Stuart at Premier Power. Top bloke. Couple of very interesting options; I just need to do the man maths and convince SWMBO. Apparently one way round it is if Stuart doesn't put the stickers on..she'll never know! So tempting!!!
  10. Does have some useful bits in it... Oil types, plugs, jacking points, fuse positions etc which can be difficult to find quickly elsewhere. I would recommend it but then my mechanical know how could be summarised on a post it note.
  11. Thanks OiliW, the piggy bank is looking decidedly vulnerable! Andy
  12. Posts like this about PP are going to cost me thousands! I've been mulling over this exact upgrade for some time and everything I read is really positive. What engine do you run at the moment OliW and how does the F175 compare? Andy.
  13. In readiness for the glorious blatting weather soon due, ( cough) I am looking for a pair of wind deflectors please. Thanks, Andy
  14. Premier power seem to have a good reputation both with Sigma and Duratec.
  15. Hi Jonthan, It included taking the tyres off but not Re fitting etc.
  16. Hi Toughie, With the VAT it worked out at £61:20 per wheel: that is for a full refurbishment and powder coat in Anthracite. The straightening was actually £36 per wheel including the VAT. My bad.
  17. As promised I have now got the wheels back from Wheel Genie and I'm very impressed. The powder coating is excellent. Two of the 5 needed straightening and that was £30 extra per wheel. All round a good job and worth recommending. Keith is a top bloke who clearly loves all things car. Andy.
  18. 4 x Yoko Advan AD08 tyres size 195/50 R15 in very good condition. Some track use. No cuts or cord exposed. Over 4mm tread all round. Perfect for track days. Collect from Papworth near Huntingdon Cambs. Ps I have no idea why the pictures are always upside down.? Taking up space in my garage and annoying SWMBO, so free to anyone who wants them before they go to the tyre depot.
  19. Has Blatchat finally failed? Is no one able to help?
  20. I've searched high and low for the answer to this one with little luck. What is the difference between sport or R spec and Roadsport or S spec suspension? As far as I can tell it is a rear ARB, adjustable ride height collars and wide track wish bones. Is there no difference to dampers or spring rates as seems to be the case? The reason I ask is I have upgraded my roadsport with an ARB and adjustable collars already and had looked at the sports suspension upgrade as the next step and its seems I have most of it already. If that is indeed the case, is it worth going wide track for predominantly road use? Thanks. Andy
  21. Try this in your browser site:lotus7.club duratec air lock Andy
  22. I not looking to sell but bepending on your budget may have a few ideas.
  23. How much is your budget?
  24. Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I've gone with wheel genie in Huntingdon as they are more local and along with Mark several other friends recommended them. I took the wheels today and the guy running it seems very friendly and knowledgable about cars. I will report back in a week when they are all done. Andy
